Spoilers Good effort Nappy. You prepped well and for the most part played well but ultimately, your downfall was doomed by a common trait that you, and a lot of less experienced competitive players have(I used to have it up until recently). Most players who are a cut above low ladder are well aware that in order to win, one must preserve their win-con. You know this as well, but what you and a lot of other players do not realize is the importance of preserving a check to your opponents win-con. In this case, you had shuca berry Empoleon and Chestnaught to stop Excadrill, his main win-con. You should have observed that Dan has few ways of pressuring Chestnaught with the pokemon that he brought and thus had to use niche tricks such as hp flying and aerial ace to deal with it. With that knowledge you should have seen the importance of Chestnaught and played more carefully with it. The game was not over once you lost your Chestnaught though as you still had shuca berry Empoleon, but you let Delphox kill it which almost cemented your loss(save for a rock slide miss). I just want to say that I am well aware that this is a semi-competitive format and is all in good fun. I feel that adapting this mindset into your play-style can easily turn you into an almost guaranteed playoff player and I want to see you do well as you are my 2nd favorite team with Shady not participating.

First off... great battle. But - there is something I don't get. In the team builder - you said that Joey Galaxy (Thundurus-T) had Hidden Power Flying. Ditto's Imposter copies a Pokemon's everything but HP. So, how in the hell did Ditto's Hidden Power hit Super effective on Pearl. *Dragonite would resist HP Flying*

***** Ouch .... not only did Dan's Ditto (I am not saying that 5 times fast) have a Choice Scarf and Transform to be faster than any Pokemon you sent out ... because of some HP investment (the fastest way to get Hidden Power Ice on Ditto is to invest some IVs or EVs in HP.) - it survived Pearl's Extreme Speed. And to Sakib - it would *NOT* have done much to Pearl, at best it would have taken 1/2 of Pearl's remaining HP. And a 35% Choice Banded Dragonite is still very, very scary. #GOGETEMTERRAKIONS

Just something that might help you: try to think long term. IMO, your answers to rushdrill were a healthy Chesnaught (that could live at least one aerial ace) and your Empoleon with the berry. I think you should've saved those ones to beat excadrill. It's interesting to think what are the answers you have for the threats in the opponent's team and then save then for that purpose. Really hyped for the next battles! See you!

+Joe McGurk Ya, I'm not hating on Nappy at all but, he needs to chill a little more between moves instead of nervously calcing *everything, on every move*, but rather, as you and Nappy himself noted in the video, follow his gut more. That and the downfall of many trainers in Wi-Fi battles is the obsession with way, way too much predicting, which usually backfires. Again, I'm not hating on Nappy or his style but, I'd almost guarantee he'd fare a little better sometimes by following his first choice/gut feelings. As they say, you're gut usually doesn't steer ya wrong, and that's definitely true *most* of the time.

I was so proud you! That was a great first turn. I felt that if you use shadow ball and play it safe. And I think Nutcracker was your win condition. It doesn't matter if he had aerial ace or not. For those of you wondering, the reason why Dan's Ditto which transformed into Thundurus had HP Ice instead of Flying is cause his Ditto's IV's were different than of Nappy's Thundurus. Ofc, Hidden Powers' typing is based off of the pokemon's IV's so, luckily (or that probably was his plan), his Ditto had HP Ice and KO'd his Dragonite.

The only thing I was thinking about from the first play was 'Pearl vs Drax'. All-Star Soul Link partners on opposite sides of the field. Great match. There was a reason Sand Rush Drill was banned in 5th gen. It's a shame Nappy took damage on Empoleon.

For your first Wi-Fi battle in a while Nappy you did fine, there's always next week. After watching this battle in sync from both perspectives here's what I have to say; I know you don't like being slow, however, going into future battles I would maybe try Gallade [Atk & SpD w/ Assault Vest]. Make the best with what you got, turn that slowness into a strength you know! Letting Chesnaught go down was when you lost the battle. Leave it to Dan to carry HP Flying... maybe you could've switched to Empoleon or Dragonite, if you had Roost. Then countered with Outrage or Earthquake, predicting a switch, or switched out Gallade or something. Clicking Defog instead of Stealth Rocks or Scald for Empoleon... I know why you did it, but that was a misplay. But this battle got me thinking that you could try Rain Dance for Empoleon. This would negatively impact Rotom-H, but you could give it Thunder? Rain Dance might even be enough to power up Aqua Jet, if you ever use it. Overall you did OK!

Good effort Nappy. Those few misplays cost you the battle, but that's how you learn! FYI: if you want a little more speed control on your team Gallade and Gardevior both learn Thunder Wave. Defensive Gallade with double status (T-Wave & Will-O) was a pretty popular set before it got a Mega. Wouldn't help you much against Sand, but if you do end up in the playoffs and have to face Dan again keep in mind you have several mons that can set up Rain or Sun to ruin his dreams of sweeping!

Nappy, i would recommend slapping an assult vest on gallade, it can become an unsuspecting special wall. I like running it with psyco cut, drain punch, knock off and earthquake. max hp, attack and 4 in sp d.
