Oak was coded to have 3 different teams. Each using the Starter that you and Gary left behind. It was to be a friendly battle, a personal test of Oak's own skill as much as the player's, to see if he "still had it" Remember, Oak's the one that made the Pokedex. In his youth, this guy went ALL across Kanto, and observed and documented pokemon in their natural habitats. The guy dealt with cold, heat, caves, mountains, blizzards, storms, and the pokemon themseles. Oak was jacked in his younger days. All the "sprites" for the Pokemon in the game? Those all turn out to be the original sketches Oak made of all the pokemon he came across. As he grew older, he began to retire as a pokemon trainer/researcher, and became a Professor, ready to continue to study pokemon and to pass on what he already knew. Time is an important part of pokemon. It's what we need to spend to make our team's stronger. What we need to learn more about pokemon. How to battle. Why we battle. And if that's an indicator of anything, Oak's probably been spending more time on pokemon than perhaps anyone else, aside from Agatha. That's why Agatha's in the Elite Four. Oak being the strongest trainer in the game makes absolute sense.

Fun fact: Prof. Oak was originally going to be the actual/secret final boss in RBY, in which Oak took and trained the starter that was left behind in his lab after both Red and Blue made their starter choice.

actually he was the regular final boss instead of your rival, so no secret final boss. But otherwise yes. You can still access that fight in the game's data if you do part of the Mew glitch but phase a Ditto that copies a pokemon of yours, say Dragonite, with an around 216(?) SPEC stat and then you get back to the area where you first flew away from as part of the Mew glitch. Depending on if its 217, 216 or 215 Prof Oak has either the water, fire or grass type starter as his strongest.

@@Evilriku13 Your description of the method isn't correct. Your pokemon that the Ditto transforms into needs to have a Special of 226. The Special corresponds to Prof. Oak's index number. If you have a different Special stat, you get a different trainer entirely. You then need to use Growl against the Ditto 4, 5 or 6 times to select the team Oak will use. If you don't use Growl, it will be an invalid glitch roster instead. The team is based on whatever the attack stage of the Ditto is when you exit the wild battle. My thoughts: The beginning is really intense. I love it. The custom melody you made for this is great. The lab theme at 0:38 is very well done, idk why other people aren't talking about it. The tone of the music is less like an epic champ battle, and more like a friendly final battle to see how far you have come. So, as excpected of Pokeli, another great piece of music!

hacking? LOL There's a legit while complex way to do this. It's basically same way to get Mew, just a variable used, and you need a pokemon high SPECIAL value/state. Then you can legitamely fight Oak with either a charizard, venasaur or a blastoise as his strongest pokemon. Sadly nothing special happens while doing that, no reward or goodies or special dialogue, besides bragging rights ^^'

Meanwhile, the theme is fan made, but the actual situation... is not. Oak is an actual trainer you can fight using the same glitch used most often to encounter missingno. Also, I think the scrapped battle was actually referenced in let's go, after you defeat the last of the elite four, where oak walks in, and the elite four you just defeated tells you there's one more trainer you must defeat, that's "not oak..." I kinda find it interesting how that could be a reference to the scrapped fight, and the placement of it, too.

honestly , if pokemon ever ends we need a one and done bossfight against professor oak. perfect IVs and EVs, competitive team, an AI that knows what they're doing, like a really complex human-like one that PREDICTS SWITCHES n stuff, of course not reading the players turn just a chance to guess. also lvl 100s , something youd need competitive pokemon knowledge for. since, you know, hes probably the one human that knows the most about pokemon, hes probably done perfect IV breeding and meta research

Fun Fact: using glitches it is possible to fight prof oak in red,blue and yellow plus he has a fully functioning team with no glitch Pokémon this and the fact that his Pokémon are at a higher level then champion blue’s Pokémon may be evidence that oak was meant be the true final boss of the gen 1 games but was scrapped before release

I can't believe neither the actual Oak battle nor Mew was in game normally. Imagine: You've beaten Blue... Oak has come to congratulate you. But he also wants to battle one last time... and his sixth Pokemon? Mew. After beating him, you receive Mew, and BAM! Both in the game, non glitched.

I thought he would make a better boss in gen 2 because after you beat all of the Kanto gyms, he tells you to go to Mt. Silver to fight Red. After he tells you about Red, he would challenge you to a battle to see if you are ready to take on such a difficult task.
