I think what gravitates a lot of people to Johto is not just the nostalgia, but also because there's this sense of intimacy and humbleness to the region. As well as an underlying message about the passage of time. Johto is a region that showcases how the old ways of the past can co-exist with the new and modern world. Which has a lot of meaning towards it because the Gen 2 games were released around the year 2000, which was the start of a brand new millennium. This is further showcased with how much Kanto and the returning characters changed, and your final battle with Red - who's essentially your old self. Johto has this mysterious charm to it that draws both me and other fans in, that no other game in the franchise has rivaled since. And this is coming from someone whose favorite region is Unova.
@Xeno4554 жыл бұрын
That alongside cool and unique areas like the Dragons Den where dragon pokemon congregate and live together. Or the Ice Cave, a frozen tundra to the north of the region hidden solely within a cave, presumably kept frozen by the ice pokemon that call it home.

Soul Silver has so much sentimental value to me. I had big-ass anxiety for about 2 years starting in Grade 8, and was having a particularly brutal week at this exact time of year, the beginning of October. My dad figured a change of scenery could help, so he took me to our cottage, just me and him. And he just bought me this game on a whim in a Walmart on the way there, which he never did with games. It was my first pokemon game and I loved it so much and was finally able to feel relaxed and distracted from my anxiety when playing it that weekend. I always associate fall with the awesome soundtrack of soul silver, and listen to it a lot during this time of year. Johto is just beautiful and the remakes improved on an already brilliant core game. Things like the companion Pokemon, the 2 regions in 1 game, Red being the final boss, the ability to change the track to the classic one by using an item and the newly established connection to Sinnoh really showcase how much thought and love was put into these games. Another amazing tidbit is Silver's Golbat. When you fight him at Mt. Moon his entire team is fully evolved except for his Golbat. When he teams up with you against Clair and Lance and is subsequent rematches he has a Crobat, indicating that he learned how to be kind to his Pokemon and showing his character development.

Eve though Kanto was my first, Johto is my favourite map mainly cause I struggled so much as a kid to get to each different town or city and feeling such relief and reward. Plus going back to Kanto, the Journey to the Elite Four and facing Red, I also remember each town or city from this game, because it seemed you had to push through each dungeon harder then say Kanto to get there and when you did, it was such a reward to relax and take it all in and interact with NPCs and locations. To me this game gave me so much joy to reach each location, nostalgia for sure, but I never felt this way going back playing Kanto or Sinnoh. Plus the Cherrygrove City theme makes me cry, its one of my favourite themes that I remember on my GB Colour just stopping and taking in. Great stuff.

First, I would like to say that this is the best analyzation of this game that has ever been made and there’s no doubt about that. Soul silver was the first time I had ever played a gen 2 game. Experiencing the remake without knowing anything about the region from the original games is entirely different and this video perfectly describes the feeling this game gives off. Another thing about johto is that all of the legends, myths, and lore are secretly truth. You hear the stories of the shrines, towers, and sacred landmarks but you get to find out the truth behind them yourself and even discover your own mystery in the ruins of alph which hints at something otherworldly.

There was more to do and you got to go back which hits on the nostalgia of an old game within the new 2) This was before the internet became common (lived in a small town). Therefore you couldn't just look shit up as easily and had to really compete against your friends. It was up to you to come up with the best strategies to beat your friends. Man that opening quote really hit close to home for me "Pokemon Gold, Silver, and Crystal were without doubt one of the most important in terms of shaping my interests and sensibilities early on in life" Johto has always been my favorite Pokemon region, but I never was able to figure out exactly why until now. It just, felt so right, cozy, comfortable, but at the same time you were still motivated to achieve something grand. It really has influenced my personal tastes in everything I consume and view, it's still clearly here even now as an adult. (Now mind you, Sapphire was the most immersive Pokemon gaming experience I have ever had, but Johto is 'very special' to me) All of this talk about finding balance between traditionalism and modernism, remembering roots while living up to legacy by striving to make your own mark. The interconnectedness of the region in spite of the stark differences between both the cool oceanic and the warm Fall aesthetics of the region (with Red temperate forests being my favorite part) was something I never noticed/ payed attention to before, but with that train of thought, it goes a layer deeper with the magnet train literally connecting this new region to that of the original region of Kanto where the player can connect/reconnect with Pokemon, characters and experiences from the original game, which has gone through quite a few changes over the course of a timeskip. Everything is new, but still familiar, not losing it's heart, just adapting to the times. It overall connects the fans of different generations together as well, to the point where I can't picture Kanto or Johto as separate regions, but just two halves of something grander.

I feel exactly the same. I played Blue at a very young age but was just a little bit too young to grasp everything going on. The best memories I have playing Silver and Crystal. Walking around in Johto feels like coming home. It's cosy. I don't really get that feeling in Kanto.

The Johto remakes will almost be in my top favorite games of all time, in every aspect. Soul Silver was my first DS game and my first Pokémon game. My dad and grandfather helped me get a DSi with a used copy of Soul Silver back in 2013 while I was still in middle school, and it was my first game I’ve ever been immersed in. The encounters, the towns, the story, the music, god I love the music. Still listen to the national park theme every once and a while and reflect on life. Where I was, and where it brought me. Who helped my get here, and who isn’t with me anymore. I heavily associate this game with where I was in life at the time of playing it; the school bus, my room, my old church, at my grandparents house and in their the kitchen after grandma made us lunch. I miss my grandparents so much, still have my DSi that my grandpa helped me save up for all those years ago. It’s rare to be so deeply fond of a game like Soul Silver has for me, and I’m sure other people as well. No matter where you are or what you’re doing in life, look around you and remember what got you there and where you’re going next, and never forget those who help you along the way ❤️

Thank you for making me understand what I actually loved about these games as a child. The mythology that you could actually feel and the moral issues the player was up against. I never understood until now what set these games apart from the other Pokemon games I've played but now I know.

I also think with Mt. Silver being in between Kanto and Johto it represents connecting the past (Red/Blue and Kanto) with the present (Gold/Silver and Johto). It also makes sense given that Red is on the mountain so the current protagonist battles the past protagonist.
@rsarin184 жыл бұрын
@@jimmyichigo7410 I know he talked about Red representing the past, but I don't think he talked about Mt. Silver connecting past and present. Unless I wasn't paying attention lol.

I have been going between Microsoft Flight Simulator and Pokémon Silver /Soul Silver and appreciating their design fundamentals. This video gave me that itch I have been wanting that explores the lore and how it combines with reality without being hyper realistic. Thank you for this video.

Pokemon Crystal was my first game. I got it for Christmas in a bundle with my very first Gameboy which was the purple Advanced that came with a rechargeable battery because I collected cards and watched the show so much. It started my lifelong love of Pokemon and I will have a strong bias to the Johto region, especially after learning how so many parts of it I loved were intentional designs as a love letter to the real area in Japan it’s based off of.

Whenever I hear the song of our town at first i dont know why but its really calm , sad and beautiful representing the richness of Johto region . To me what we grew up playing first always had a deep impact on what shape us. When we grew older we tend to not have the same connection to new game within the same franchise because of design change or too much micro transaction.
