You could argue that being a roaming pokemon was actually a boost to it because more people would find it that way. Where as pokemon that are only found in certain locations such as Zapdos, you can miss entirely unless you explore areas you're not forced to explore. So you'll be more aware of it.

Yeah, but at least the game and movies tell you very clearly that he exists and is important to the region. They tell you straight up "there are three legendary beasts and you can go catch any of them". He's also kind of great in competitive although replaceable by tapu koko. Cresselia although not as used by the franchise as character. Has the advantage of being the counterpart of Darkrai an we all know how popular he is. So every fan that likes Darkrai, knows of Cresselia. Heatran on the other hand is absolutely irrelevant.

For some reason I never understood that Cresselia was supposed to be the opposite of Darkrai. When I played Diamond back in the day, I just thought it was a random legendary they felt like adding to the post game.

It makes more sense when you consider Cresselia is themed after the crescent moon, and while Darkrai is associated with nightmares and darkness, you catch it on New Moon Island, which contrasts with Cresselia's home location of Full Moon Island. EDIT: Also their design origins and inspirations are pretty in sync with each other. I highly recommend checking out Lockstin & Gnoggin's videos about them.

It felt like a much looser connection than the Lake Trio and Manaphy/Phoine, but they kinda tied it together better in post. Cresselia is even accredited with having a wing to lessen the effect of Darkrai's nightmares.

I feel like it's Heatran. Here's my reasoning: Cresselia is one of the mainstays in VGC competitions, and just got a new signature move in Legends Arceus, along with being in the Pokémon Masters 2.5 year celebration. Raikou had a special/movie around it, a special shiny distribution of it because of a movie that it's in, and has had its origin story told several times in (fantastic) animation. Heatran, meanwhile, hasn't really gotten anything special after its release. It doesn't have any special story in the games, it hasn't really seen any updates since it was released, and it was distributed for the year of Legendaries with... Regigigas. I guess Regigigas needed a friend too?

While Cresselia doesn't get any love in the main line series (being a somewhat obscure roaming Pokemon), if you look to the world of spin-off games, Cresselia has some rather special treatment in the Explorers arc of the Mystery Dungeon franchise. She joins you in the post-game quest to take the down the overarching big bad Darkrai. Lots of legendary Pokemon get cool and fun content in the Mystery Dungeon games. Raikou even serves a role in a few of them too. No love for Heatran though. In the MD games he does show up in, he's kind of just there. No real quest other than a Wonder Mail tie in gimmick in Explorers.

Let's not forget that even in the one game where Cresselia had a significant role (PMD2), she... wasn't exactly loved by the fanbase. Spoilers for that game: The first few times you see her, it's just Darkrai disguised as her. And when the real Cresselia finally does show up, you have to take her on an escort mission through the hardest story mode dungeon in the game. Her AI is terrible, she constantly levitates over the lava in the dungeon which inflicts burn on herself, and if that wasn't bad enough, you have to put up with that poor AI even longer during the final battle against Darkrai. Scratch that, Darkrai and the 6 allies he just calls to assist him. And because Cresselia's a story-essential party member, the same rules apply to her as they do to the player and partner. Meaning that if she faints and you don't have any Reviver Seeds, it counts as a loss and you need to do the whole dungeon all over again.

I agree with Cresselia being ignored, though I have always thought of Heatran as more ignored. In it's few appearances in the Diamond and Pearl anime, it was treated like a non-legendary mon, as if even the anime writers forgot it was supposed to be important.

Cresselia appears in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explores of Time/Darkness and their reboot game Explorers of the Sky. In it, she is a main character for the post game dungeon where she will recruit your main character's team to guide her through a dungeon to face Darkria at the end and close out the story. As a physic type, she is vulnerable to Dark, Ghost, and Bug, dark featuring heavily in the dungeon meaning she has lots of chances to die... causing a game over for you. When you get to the final boss there's an ambush, no surprise there. Her starting position has her against Mismagius and Argon. One has shadow ball for super effective damage, the other crunch. 10 year old me spent several hours grinding through this dungeon to get to the end, only to have Cresselia die immediately and I don't want to sound petty. But I'm happy she is the least represented because I don't forgive her.

I’d argue Raikou is more forgotten. It’s my favorite of the Legendary Beasts, but it really hasn’t gotten any time in the limelight since it’s debut. Both Cresselia and Heatran showed up on the Gen 5 games (Cress even had a minor story arc revolving around a ghost girl), Cresselia had a major role in the postgame of Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky, and Heatran got a little spotlight in that one Generations episode. Yes, Raikou has more merch and cards, but it doesn’t have much else going for it.

I think you could've included the Mythicals, they're essentially the cutesy Legendaries (made in the vein of Mew after Shigeki Morimoto, director of Emerald and HeartGold & SoulSilver and programmer going back to the original Red & Green in 1996, managed to squeeze Mew into the code & the Mew Glitch in Gen 1 being one of MANY in Gen 1); plus, Deoxys became a base-game encounter in the (oddly fascinating but VERY flawed) Delta Episode in Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire; even so, another solid analysis as Raikou (kou pronounced like "flow"), Heatran & Cresselia all deserve better treatment from TPCI; curious to see what other Pokemon videos you have in the works (outside the foreshadowing), hope everyone's doing well and Keep Up The Great Work!

I know what Cresselia needs to give it some love! Give her and Darkrai some more friends, more legendaries based on the phases of the moon. Cresselia is the crescent moon, Darkrai is the new moon, that leaves room for half-moon, gibbous, and the full moon! By introducing a new trio to turn the lunar duo into a lunar quintet, some light will have to be shined on Cresselia.

In original Gen 2 it was easy-ish to catch Raikou, Entei, Suicine; use the cloning "feature" to get multiple Master Balls and then you get a bunch of Repels and find a grassy area that doesn't have other trainers nearby. Use the Repels and keep running around the grass eventually all 3 will appear and can capture them with the Master Balls. Additionally can do that without the cloning feature, but requires a strong Wobbabuffet with Shadow Tag to keep them in place. Same method works in Hoenn games & LeafGreen/FireRed for the roaming legendaries.

Spoilers for this vid in this comment: What I find so funny about this is that both Heatran and Cresselia are super competitively good, and yet as far as Gamefreak representation goes they fall so short, especially Cresselia. Heatran gets notable game locations in quite a few cases with Stark Mountain, Reversal Mountain, and that one place in ORAS. Cresselia gets a random haunted mansion quest in Unova postgame and a nightmaring child in Sinnoh, but both of those only present it as the solution to a problem caused by Darkrai. Overall, though, Raikou doesn't get any of that so I dunno which one has truly been the most ignored.

Ok I know this is an older video but I haven’t seen anyone bring this up. In Super Smash Bros Melee all three of the Legendary Beasts were summonable from Pokeballs. In every game after, Entei and Suicune could be summoned, but Raikou couldn’t. In fact, he makes no appearances in Brawl, not even a sticker or trophy. Add on that the others got a whole game and film while Raikou only ever gets attention when he’s paired with the others, I’m not gonna disagree that Creselia gets the shaft a lot, but GameFreak clearly has something against my precious electric saber tooth tiger boy

One thing I feel was ignored is how much cresselia and hearten were involved in the competitive scene. Funfact they were everywhere since gen 5 and they refuse to leave. Both were heavily involved in Gen 5 and 6 competitive meta through the entire time. While Raikou never really shined in the competitive scene in a long time. Game freak never needed to give it more attention because they were able to shine on their own. Cresselia was a very common psychic type tank that refused to die and Heatran would show up and just wreck the field because of its power.

A point in favour of cresselia: She was one of the 3 pokemon featured in the spear pillar SSB stage; so even though I didn't play her game, I still knew about her. I had no idea heatran was a pokemon or that it was legendary until it popped up in my PoGo raids.....and even then I kind of struggled to catch it, as no one seemed to be participating in its raids in my area. LOL

you should also look into the spinoff games - for example Raikou, Entei and Suicune all play pretty big roles in Pokemon Rangers 3, even though that game is part of gen 4, the lake trio isn't in it at all, neither is Cresselia if I remember correctly, Heatran you could at least get through a download mission at the time. Bur for real that game kinda did the gen 4 legends dirty for being a gen 4 game

My most favorite Legendary Pokemon is Mewtwo. Mewtwo is a newcomer character in Super Smash Bros Melee along with Bowser, Dr. Mario, Falco, Ganondorf, Ice Climbers, Marth, Mr. Game & Watch, Peach, Pichu, Roy, Young Link and Zelda/Sheik. Mewtwo is a DLC character in Super Smash Bros 4 along with Bayonetta, Cloud, Corrin, Lucas, Roy and Ryu. Mewtwo is a popular Pokemon character in Super Smash Bros Ultimate along with Charizard, Greninja, Incineroar, Ivysaur, Jigglypuff, Lucario, Pichu, Pikachu and Squirtle. Mewtwo is in 4 movies like Pokemon The First Movie, Genesect and the Legend Awakened, Pokemon Detective Pikachu and Pokemon: Mewtwo Strikes Back-Evolutions.

Heatran might have made more appearances but it is always in the background. Cresselia hasn't been in any film but she did have a three-part special in Pokemon Journeys along with Darkrai which was really big because it also so the anime return of Dawn. Even in the games, Cresselia is given a lot more lore with how the Lunar Feather can wake someone from Darkrai's nightmare. She has her own sidequest in B2/W2. Heatran always ends up thrown in a cave and has nothing that indicates him as being a legendary pokemon other than Gamefreak saying Heatran is a legendary Pokemon. If you were to make this video and remove any mention of Heatran nobody would notice because that is how often Heatran is pushed to the side and forgotten about

The "legendary" and "sub-legendary" distinctions are fan made, the only place where I've seen it other than this video is Serebii. the distinction seems to be whether or not the legendary appears on a game's box, with two exceptions: Mewtwo is a legendary because of his general importance in gen 1 despite not being a mascot of Red, Green, Blue, or Yellow, probably because of his popularity through the first movie, and Suicune is sub-legendary despite being Crystal's mascot because he is part of the sub-legendary Legendary Beasts trio. I basically think of legendaries as basically the gods of the world, and sub-legendaries as minor deities.

Raikou's not a roaming Pokémon in Pokémon Colosseum. It, along with the other Legendary Beasts, are used by the Cipher Admins, (with the exception of Miror B.,) and they're Shadow Pokémon, so you can catch them

I've heard it said once or twice, and I've been playing since I was like 5 and I'm nearly 30 now. But yeah it's definitely not something that's really talked about a lot, and most are probably the same as you and I counting them all as just Legendary anyways.

I have, and for a long time now. Basically any legendary (trio) that isn't in the group of the game mascots, that isn't mythical, and that often is governed by another legendary, possibly in their group. The elemental birds : Lugia The Johto beasts : Ho-oh The Regis : Regigigas (obviously) Not the Eons, not Heatran nor Cresselia Lake spirits : Arceus (mythical, but Arceus litteraly created the egg they come from) Swords of Justice : Cobalion Forces of nature : Landorus Tapus: Koko Or at least that's what I consider a sub legendary and which ones I count as subs.

I also feel like Cresselia got short-changed in her typing and backstory. She's supposed to be THE only counter to Darkrai's nightmares. Dark is not effected by pyschic at all. I feel like the team literally did forget Cresselia, because when fairy type was introduced, and some previous pokemon, like the clefairy line and jigglypuff line had the fairy type added or replace their type, I think Cresselia should have at least had it added. This would not only give her the ability to actually live up to her own lore against Darkrai , but it would have turned MOONblast, THE moon themed attack into a same type attack bonus move. Thinking of that missed oppurtunity and how it will never be fixed makes me ridiculously peeved -w-;

I don’t know if they’re the most forgotten legendary Pokémon, but I do feel like the Swords of Justice are relatively forgotten compared to most other legendaries. They were introduced in Gen 5 which had not only the most legendary and mythical Pokémon introduced up till that point, but the most Pokémon in general. They did get a movie, but since Gen 5 they’ve scarcely shown up in other games in a major way.

Gen 6 : only Kanto birds Gen 7 : every previous legendaries, by Ultra wormhole Gen 8 : every previous legendary by Dynamax adventures, except for a few, the Swords of Justice included in forefront. So sure, there wasn't a lot, but the other previous legendaries also didn't show up in major ways either

A least loved Ultra Beast and least loved Mythical video both sound really good. Maybe a least loved form/variant video and a least loved of each type video as well or maybe a least loved of each Gen. What sucks even more for Cresselia is that it's weak to Darkrai because of it's Psychic typing, and when they introduced Fairy type and had the perfect opportunity to give it to Cresselia, which would have made Cresselia have a type advantage over Darkrai, and it just fits with Cresselia's aesthetic and such as well, they didn't do it even though they retyped a bunch of other Pokemon at that time. If you want to count it too, Raikou does have a sort of appearance in the Zoroark movie, granted it's a shiny and granted it's a Zoroark illusion IIRC, but that would still probably count.

10:07, 15:15 - Raikou & Entei are actually pretty easy to catch if with a bit of patience and strategy. Just a few months ago I did a playthrough of Crystal where intentionally I caught Raikou before the 5th gym and added it to my team.
