Nuzlocke Ruleset:
1. If a Pokémon faints, then it must be permanently boxed.
2. I can only catch the first encounter on each Route.
3. No bag items in battle, except for pokéballs. (Held items are allowed)
4. Must be played on "Set" battle mode.
5. Cannot level over the next gym leader/elite 4's highest level pokémon.
6. Z-moves are banned.

The problem with ice types isn't necessarily that they're bad, it's the typing that just sucks defensively. Ice types that are bulky just don't work well and they need to focus more on being offensive powerhouses which a lot of them are such as Weavile, Cloyster and many others. Ice type needs a buff tho.

With these rules and the method for Jynx, you could get a fully evolved Salamance as first encounter for Mono Dragon or Mono Flying in these games if you repel through all of Route 3. That could be pretty OP if you get Moxie, since Hidden Abilities are also gotten through SOS encounters.

I'd assume there's an unspoken rule where you need to take a catch on the first possible route to start the run, Salamence would be quite risky to catch in that case

My first run of USUM was actually a mono-Ice run (vanilla, no nuzlocke), and it went surprisingly smoothly. Granted since it was my first mono-type run the early-game was a bit fast and loose (AKA using Seel before it evolved), and I did do some trading shenanigans to breed my own Vulpix with Snow Warning and evolve my Eevee into a Glaceon early (because come on why on earth is Glaceon always so late-game?), but once we got the team all set up, things went really well. Great run, dude! Ice is underappreciated.

Since all the Pokémon appeared in the same battle they can be all considered part of the same encounter, as if they had all appeared at the same time.

Using DarkraiTV's method on his ice nuzlocke run. Unfortunately I had to reset due to crabrawler not appearing on all trees between route 2-5 and the eevee I had most likely had the lowest ivs ever since I barely dented Totem Araquanid before getting killed

Yeah darkraitv’s method isn’t legal in my rules. But getting the Jynx is nearly guaranteed to have perfect Evs. Crabrawler won’t help much with the Totem fight. If you get the Delibird at seaward cave and use an easier level cap that matches the Kahunas, rather than Totems, then delibird would have drill peck available.

@@DocZ Tbh using that Jynx with your rules made things a lot easier for you rather than beating Hala with the Pokémon that Darkrai used. Plus with your rules, shouldn’t you have caught that Smoochum, which was the first encounter on that route rather than the ally Jynx..?

I really really love your stuff! I had an open question if that's cool? Anyone can chime in. Is it rude if I comment something about strategy? Like a question or alternate suggestion. I.e. when you lost Jynx to Milotic, I think vanilluxe could've done it instead with snow warning->protect->ibeam->protect->repeat and hail damage would ko before vanilluxe goes down, but am I overestimating hail damage?

Nice run, impressive work! I gotta say, regarding the Charti Berry stuff in the E4 Olivia fight, enemy AI isn't aware of the berries, right? I would imagine it doesn't consider the held item when choosing a move if it doesn't get announced (unlike Air Balloon, for example), so I think that's why Armaldo used Rock Blast instead of X-Scissor. Maybe I'm wrong, though, idk.

No AI is always aware of damage reducing berries. Infact its only aware of berries. Rock blast only has its first hit reduced so it would have done more damage anyway

At 30:54, how come you opened with Lapras at all? Even if how you thought the damage calc. between charti berry and rock blast was the case, what advantage did opening with Lapras and switching to Froslass give you over simply opening with Froslass?

I thought charti would reduce all Rock blast hits and bait the X scissor. This way I could fling a choice specs onto it and shell smash cloyster. But if I hadn't started Lapras, Rock blast five hit actually kills cloyster.

The rules are more like first battle rather tan first encounter. I do the rules like this since in BW2, I would always get two usuable encounters in double grass, but then that means I would always have to catch the left pokemon since they are "first", so i changed it to be first battle, not fisrt encounter

tauros really suck man, I checked the damage calculator and it says 60 to 70% with double edge which is weird because if you ever told anyone that a weavile tanked a double edge from tauros they won't believe it because weavile is so frail.
