Oh and I’m planning on adding hyper training and nature mints in the next update which should help with the competitive stats. The trainers at the pyrite duel square are designed to focus on one type of EV for EV training though it’s still not the most convenient. I’d like to also add a way to check and reset EVs then make the EV vitamins easier to obtain.
@whoisthisgit4 жыл бұрын
Cool, I look forward to that. I had a feeling there might have been trainers designed for that purpose somewhere in the game, it's just that when everything else has been made more convenient, classic EV training seems like a pain in the ass to me, lol.

Is it possible to make EV vitamins work beyond 100 EVs on the respective stat? That would skip the spam-training. Kinda making EV training and leveling not the focus after playing through the game and maybe Mt. Battle (rare candies and EV vitamins for cheaper prices, maybe @Mt. Well, that is because it's not made by Game Freak themselves. And the fact that all Gen 1 and Gen 2 animations were ripped straight from Stadium series, so it's technically doesn't count for 251 Pokemons. Not only that, (it was mentioned in the video) but the animations took too long for some people liking.
@Pichuscute3 жыл бұрын
@@Trimint123 Game Freak has Creatures Inc to make the Pokemon animations and models. The models Game Freak currently use actually even have better textures and animations already made, which can be seen in Pokedex 3D Pro. They just don't use them at all or use them incompetently. Genius Sonority was dealing with less Pokemon, but so was SwSh, and yet that changed nothing for Game Freak. Genius Sonority was also many times smaller in size compared to Game Freak and yet did a hell of a lot better of a job. As far as animations, the GC games are actually quicker than modern Pokemon, with things like ability triggers or damage animations triggering while text is shown/hp bars decrease instead of everything happening one at a time. The game also doesn't chug to half the normal framerate when in doubles like modern Pokemon does, which means it's a lot quicker. The only reason someone might think mainline Pokemon plays faster is because the trainers have nearly no Pokemon and the game is entirely in singles, rather than doubles.

Similar unpopular opinion: in a series where so many characters are like "you shouldn't just care about Pokemon's strength, it's the bond that's important", it's weird that the way to win fights is to breed them from birth and roadmap their whole lives to get the right values.
@samthex56144 жыл бұрын
Well, you bond with them while you do that?
@David_the_Psalmist4 жыл бұрын
The thing is, all of that stuff was mostly unintentional. Competitive breeding, EV training, and plotting out things like egg moves and hidden power types aren't a part of how the game's designed to be played. It's why the terms "EV's" and IV's" are never actually used in the games. The games wants you to just clear the Pokemon League and fill out the Pokedex, with maybe a few friendly battles with other players along the way. Of course, for those you'd just use your gameplay teams and play a glorified rock, paper, scissors match based on which starter you chose.

My Milotic, Angel, I only had plans for finding, capturing and evolving her when she was a Feebas (Considering she is Shiny). When I discovered her Nature happened to be Bold, the most desirable nature for a Milotic, plans changed, and I began training with her. Now she is Max Level, fully EV trained, Bottle Capped in every stat but Attack, has had her ability swapped from Competitive to Marvel Scale, with a Tanky Moveset, and has taken down a Mega Rayquaza all by herself. That’s because I raised her myself, from a wild Feebas just skimming the Water in ORAS (I’m not stupid enough to hunt for Feebas in either Gen 3 or 4, and I wanted to evolve her the traditional way) to a beautiful slayer of Gods in USUM. Thanks to the introduction of Bottle Caps in Gen 7, there’s literally no reason to bother with IV breeding. And with Egg Moves being able to be transferred between Pokémon by pairing them in the Daycare, and Nature Mints and the Ability Patch, as of Gen 8, you can just catch a regular old, say, Eevee of the street and turn it into a Competitive beast of a tanky Umbreon. It’s dumb.

The way Pokemon games are designed is atrociously bad for the context of competitive play. Not at all surprising that cheating runs rampant in the community as a result. Very happy to see some love for XG, this mod is awesome! Gotta get back to it myself, the slow battles can be a bit of a slog for me personally but I can find other things to do in the downtime. I do have one minor complaint, though: for some reason, Ampharos was not given the nice treatment the other Mega Evolved Pokemon got. For one thing, it's still an Electric type rather than an Electric/Dragon type which feels like a wasted opportunity to me. Second, its stats took a hit all around: compared to its old stat spread of 90/75/85/115/90/55, it now has 95/60/70/120/80/20. Minor boost in HP and Special Attack at the cost of a bad hit to Attack, Defense, Special Defense and especially Speed. I will say that at the very least, Ampharos does get Tail Glow and Cotton Guard to boost itself up, but in my opinion giving the poor thing a BST of an Audino seems unnecessary in a game where Earthquake is the best thing since sliced bread. However, I echo all of Git's points: XG is an excellent game and definitely worth a try as a Pokemon game that has not made me turn on my 'no items' rule to make it harder, just want to warn some Ampharos lovers (though for me, I already have Salamence and Sceptile on my team, I don't need more dragons).

Thanks for the review! I was also shocked how unknown this thing is, despite being of such high quality. To be completely honest: This thing, a mod of an 15 year old game, absolutely wipes the floor with Sword/Shield in many aspects. Even it is so much better than the original, I give full credit to what XD has achieved in the past. Today we have WAY more to work with, which wasn't available back then. Sure it has its weaknesses, but I still see even the original being one of the best Pokémon games out there to date, for its innovative and fresh style alone (and holy god, true 3D animations and combat... Take that Sword/Shield! They did it 15 years ago in a non-mainline game!). I played through it in ~25h, while purifying ~70% of the Pokémon and it was one hell of a ride. The battle became tough from time to time, so at the end, I fought through half Mt. Battle in total, just to stand a chance against certain Cipher Admins. Full agree on the level mechanics. I found it to be disappointing each and every generation, when the elite 4 (or other final battles) have level... what, 45? That is wasting SO MUCH potential. Salamence wouldn't even EVOLVE until this point, wtf?! Same with ROM hacks of ORAS/XY/SM. They all utilize the Exp-Share to give you powerful Pokémon and even stronger trainers with very high levels, so it feels like an actual fight and not some kid's skrimish. Using full strong movesets, high levels, full-evolved Pokémon with high level just doesn't compare against battle with so-call Cipher """"Admins"""" who have level 25 Pokémon at the middle of the game. I'd expect ~40 here and XG delivered. Especially TMs not breaking and being FILLED with new cool moves that are actually useful is great. I finally feel like I'm really building a powerful team instead of pushing what is available (which was not too good in Col/XD) and taking whatever move is learnt. VERY OFTEN I had make tough choices of which moves my Pokémon should learn and keep. More type coverage? A special/phys alternative? More STAB moves? Tricky status-moves? Who knows...?! And you absolutely need those choices to be good, otherwise you'll be stomped to the ground by Cipher Admin fights or even their helping hands. When using Dolphin on 3x native resolution and some little graphic option tweaking, this game looks better than Sword/Shield (if you ignore the huge arena-scenes), as all attacks have 3D animations, free floating camera, ... absolutely gorgeous. Recommended it to all my friends, as most of them have played Pokémon until Sword/Shield and remember Col/XD well. I was caught anyway, as I casually played through it every 2-3 years for the fun of it. The only things that bothered me were lack of special/phys split, old moves, not much choice and similar shenanigans. XG fixed most of them, definitely. And I didn't even touch upon the Orre Colosseum or the entirety of Mt. Battle. Quick P.S. for your critique at the end: - The funny lines here and there are just meant to be exactly that. Funny. These guys are ROM hackers and the game is not sold professionally. Therefore I found this to be ok. To expand on that, I always like to see little things like this, that show me, that there are actual humans with... humor, I guess... behind that game. I think a ROM hack allows for things like this. You know that you are about to go into a community creation, when you install the mod. - EVs and other content. YES. Absoultely. However, I think this is also a weakness inherited from the original. Changes beyond trainers, Pokemon and basically everthing that is just "numbers and tables somewhere in the ROM file" are exponentially more difficult to accomplish. Therefore, I absolutely understand and forgive the lack of such a machine (would have been super nice tho; maybe grab yourself a savegame editor?). Generally, XD lacks endgame in general, beyond Mt. Battle and the Orre Colosseum (which is more than XY/SwSh has to be fair lol) so it probably wasn't designed for that. I'll leave that as a remark for future titles (looking at you Nintendo and Game Freak), to make this better.

@@EvolutionArchive23 Absolutely! Being an IT/computer science guy myself who has been quite knowledgeable about the whole ROMhacking/modding scene in Pokémon, I highly appreciate that effort and have huge respect for the work put into developing the tools necessary to do that. I always had big dreams for XD as a starting point, due to its superior battle-engine and graphics (free floating cam, 3D animations of everything), which WIPES THE FLOOR with every game released after it, including Sword/Shield. Now, we see that it is actually possible. However, I guess adding more Pokémon in there as actually intended is rather hard. So we'll see how this will develop.

I did a Nuzlocke of this game (hard as hell btw), and Umbreon is probably one of the most broken Pokémon in the game. Aura Filter (an item you get super early on) in tandem with its Filter ability makes it nearly impossible to one shot by any regular OR Shadow move. It’s essentially Blissey but with less HP and more well rounded bulk. It’s pretty passive until you get Foul Play, but its support movepool is insane and you can tailor it to be either an unkillable stall machine or a fantastic team supporter. Would definitely recommend for anyone wanting to try and Nuzlocke the game, or if you just want to have a super reliable Pokémon that can usually get you out of many hairy situations. Vaporeon is also really good too for similar reason, Storm Drain being absurdly useful in many fights because rain teams are pretty common.

@bluevictini4 жыл бұрын
The reason they were shiny locked in XD was because of confusion that happened in Colluseum. Where if a shadow pokemon was shiny when encountered, that did not necessarily mean it would be when caught, because shininess is partially determined by trainer ID in those games. This also meant that you could catch a seemingly normal mon and find it to be shiny. I'm interested that the team found a way around it, made shiny hunting a nightmare.

The cumbersome nature of EVs is why in my gen 2 romhack I am not changing it to the modern system. Gen 1 and 2 let you gain stat exp in every stat at once, so you didn't have to worry about carefully managing what EVs your pokemon gained, just battle a lot.
@whoisthisgit10 ай бұрын
Yeah, I've always hated how much of a pain it is to work with sometimes. The only annoyance with the system in 1 and 2 was how long it could take to max out DVs. I've trained Pokemon to level 100 who still didn't reach the limit before then.

Gotta love what modders/ROM hackers pull off sometimes- breathing new life into old games is something I'm always impressed by. I'll have to add this one to my list! Really should hurry up and finish Road to Ruin... Definitely agree on EVs though- the idea behind fighting certain Pokémon to improve certain stats is cool, but it just gets cumbersome and grindy. I know one fan game (Touhou Puppet Dance Performance, the obligatory Touhou crossover) let you just assign the EV equivalent to your puppets' stats directly, and that'd be a pretty nice quality of life feature in a regular Pokémon game.
@VonFirflirch4 жыл бұрын
Oh, I've been wanting EVs to work like that for a while, I should check it out. ...And the prospect of answering "What's your favorite Pokémon game?" with "Some Touhou crossover" sounds hilarious to me x)

I've got no way to easily play this mod for myself, but I can see all the effort that went into making it. They could have just added more Shadows and called it good, but they really went the extra couple miles. Theoretically, if you play Pokemon XG on an emulator, couldn't you fast-forward the emulator to deal with the slow battles?
@spacebibba89844 жыл бұрын
You might stumble upon an US-version ISO file of the game online... and apply the patch to it, instead of ripping it yourself. If you have a semi-decent computer and a controller, definitely give this thing a shot. It wipes the floor with Sword/Shield.

@@spacebibba8984 I'll keep that in mind, but I try to avoid emulating with ROMs whenever I can. Not an ethics thing, I just find emulators annoying to use compared to physical hardware. But, maybe I'll try looking around for them if I find the time

I've played two Pokemon games to completion. Emerald. And Gale of Darkness. Gale of Darkness will always be my favorite. Maybe just because it was kinda different. It didn't feel so intimidating. And I played it a lot during an awesome time of my childhood too. So it's very up there for me. I've started playing again recently and I still love it and people can totally disagree but I actually like the graphics and details on here more than I did on Sword and Shield before I lost my switch. I just do it just feels more detailed in battles and such.

@@mrsuperheatran2794 Yeah, I know but I could never get into the gimmick. I get it that it might be a me thing but I just don't like dealing with Double Battles at all. The many possibilities also serve as a kick in the back when I think about it because all I see when I try preparing for Double Battles is stuff I don't want to deal with. It's kind of like when you love Tekken but don't even want to touch Dragon Ball FighterZ because of all the gimmicky assists - you love all the flashy stuff, the complex mechanics and the like but you just don't want to deal with all that baggage. Single Battles will always be the preferred way to play for me which is why I could never get into the 3rd Gen tie-in games or competitive Pokemon because of how hard they doubled-down on Double Battles

I think the patch creator could easily fix the slow pace by removing the death animation sequence in the code. Then whenever a pokemon faints the death animation is just skipped entirely and the game moves on to the next switch in animation or continues the battle against the last pokemon.
