I honestly don't even mind the garbage gaskets provide no flex. The firmness is nice. I wouldn't buy another for full price, though. Especially since you NEED to get better stabs on it and even the GSV2 isn't great because it can so easily be overlubed with the smallest amount of lube. But definitely on a good sale.

GMMK Pro had two things going: ISO support before any other vendors and then the 7*% layout with four buttons on the side (page down, page up and delete where it should always be next to ISO enter edge). I also have a Keychron Q1 and it's a lot better experience to work with and open. The Q1 also comes with decent stabilizers and QMK preinstalled. However the missing one critical side key is still a deal breaker for me: the Q3 is a very good workaround though.
@ToyKeeper Жыл бұрын
That missing key is important, no? I've been really happy with a Keychron Q65, which is a proper 65% design (including the 4 right-side keys) plus 4 extra keys and a knob on the left side, so I call it a "69%" layout. It's really nice.

@@ToyKeeper That's interesting. I wish Keychron would extend that to the Q1 series as well because the Q65 doesn't have function keys (which is not as critical but still very annoying thing for me). Glorious has become the "noob trap" of the gaming/custom pc gear enthusiast hobby. Even their mice, which sort of paved the way/made speedholes in mice mainstream, are now super overpriced for what their offering. As someone who owns a GMMK Pro and bought the flexkit, I haven't touched it in months since I got a QK75 and a Zoom75, both cheaper (and both even came with carrying cases and a slew of extras) than the GMMK Pro + Flex Kit. I was one of those poor suckers that got excited about the GMMK Pro and pre-ordered it. Couldn't wait to get it. I couldn't wait to build it. Then I got it. And built it. And stripped cheap screw after cheap screw over and over. Then I typed on it. Hated it. Despised it. It quickly became a paperweight on my desk and swapped out for a Ikki68. Glorious, while not only being keycap design thieves, is a company that seemingly has gone from being a "budget option" when it comes to their peripherals to becoming a company that thinks they offer premium products but really just offer cheap crap at a premium price.

I loved my GMMK Pro so much that I bought a second one, one in white ice, one in slate black. Modded both heavily and with third-party gaskets, Durock v2 stabs with holee mod, AVXWorks' FR4 plates, StupidFish custom foams, set them up with lubed Gateron Oil King and Everglide Aqua King linear switches, slapped on a couple of sets of GMK keycaps and they are both top notch now in terms of typing feel and sound. Yes, all this cost a lot and required a lot of effort, but I enjoyed the tinkering (it was during the pandemic lockdowns, so gave me something to do). Also, as the video points out, there wasn't much choice in the 75% keyboard market back then if you wanted to avoid group buys and just wanted something reliably in stock. Nice to see those Flex Kits available now to make some of this modding work simpler.

Barebones there is only a $50 difference though between the two. I think the included software and what many would consider a better look for the GMMK Pro makes up for the cost. Also, when it comes to average consumers the GMMK Pro is likely going to be on their radar. Places like Best Buy have these keyboards with their own little booth next to their other gaming boards but none of their other gaming boards have this look, and I think that has a lot to do with what's driving sales. They are in right in the face of consumers offering a VERY good looking product that doesn't require them to download GMK and install custom firmware and the like to change things up.

I have a GMMK Pro that I bought barebones two years ago - performance out of the box was rather frustrating for my 1st custom keyboard. The stabilisers were atrocious and my space bar didn't depress at all, so I replaced the stock stabs with Durock V2s and now they work like a dream. I also replaced the plate with an FR4 Plate by AVX Works, which has given it a decent amount of flex, whilst still giving room for some dampening. I've stuck different gaskets around the case, and have also done the tape mod. Switches are self-lubed Gateron yellows. After all this the sound is actually quite deep and thocky, although I've no doubt that I could have the same experience or better for much less money and faff nowadays. It's been a fun introduction into the keyboard hobby, as there just weren't that many accessible options back then. I'm currently looking into buying stuff again as my wife now wants her own after using mine and there is so much more choice for a decent keeb without going mad on cost.

I just built an Epomaker TH80 Pro with some Akko Creamy Yellow V3 Pro switches and some Cheap XVX keycaps. It cost me about $85 (because of Black Friday sales), and an hour of my time to carefully assemble it (I've never built a keyboard before). Now I will admit that the plate is made of Steel, so it has no flex. Also I don't really know 'How a Keyboard is supposed to Sound'... Despite listening to countless Keyboard videos. Still it sounds pretty good to me. The switches are smooth and the stabilizers are solid and don't rattle. The keycaps are supposed to be 'PBT' but they're fairly thin (I bought them because they had 'shine through' lettering on the 'south side' so I thought they'd work well with the boards south facing LEDs). Here's the bottom line: I'm on an extremely tight budget! I cannot afford to spend even $200 on a Keychron Q1, let alone $400+ on a GMMK Pro. I had to wait around for months, to get the Black Friday deals. So I'm just going to have to live with what I can afford.

I got an FR4 plate for it, got some gat black inks v2, lubed and filmed them, got some durock v2 stabs lubed them, put a piece of PE foam under the whole thing where the case foam goes instead of on the PCB, swapped over to QMK firmware. So i have had a gmmk pro since they came out with it originally. I have it modded with durock v2 stabs, kailh cream switches, tape mod, better foam, and kyrtox 205 lubed. It's been a great keyboard to mess around with and type with but since then I have picked up a wooting 60he and have had it since august of 2022. I have lubed and tape modded it and it feels great for the performance that I am getting out of it. Most recently, I have picked up the drunkdeer a75 because I missed the layout of the gmmk pro but wanted to keep the performance of the wooting. So far out of the box the a75 has been amazing. Out of the box it sounds amazing and probably perfect for most people. So far I have only done a tape mod and better foam. My only complaints with this keyboard is the case. It is have to mod because it's not held together with screws but with tabs. Also, the case feels cheap (would use some extra weight to it). Other than that it is a great keyboard especially for the price. It is readily available on amazon and it's cheaper than the other two. conclusion: These three keyboards have their pros and cons. Not one keyboard is better than the other. It all comes down to what you are looking for in a keyboard. I would say, if you are looking for a keyboard that you can fully mod and customize then I would say go with a gmmk pro or the cheaper alternatives. If you are looking for the best performance keyboard than without a doubt the wooting is the way to go. If you want a keyboard that is an all around keyboard then the drunkdeer a75 is an amazing keyboard. I know these keyboards have a lot of cons when it comes to price and wait time, but I am just giving some information on the keyboards themselves. Hope this helps :) feel free to ask me any questions. I'm not the most knowledgeable when it comes to keyboards but I will try to help the best I can.

I bought a gmmk pro way back when it first released. The keyboard market was a lot different back then with way less options. I have since swapped the stabs, added the flex kit and it's a fine keyboard, but if I was shopping today I would get something else most likely.

I bought the prebuilt on black friday for dirt cheap knowing what I was getting into and I’ve got a couple other modded keyboards but the GMMK Pro topped it came in with low expectations and a massive project ahead but after testing it out I’ve got 0 complaints other than the screws and one of the rubber feet came off in one corner but that was from my own fault.. But the stabs weren’t sticky and didn’t ping and honestly sounded and felt a lot better than my other boards with Durock V2’s the switches were already pre-lubed and were pretty consistent with all of them.. Maybe I lucked out on it? Who knows. Howeve, I did switch out the switches to put in Gateron Oil Kings and man.. it became a whole different beast on its own and is now my daily driver. Planning on maybe switching out the plate for brass but still unsure about that decision the only mods I’ve done to the GMMK Pro was the PE foam mod and triple layer the gasket foam. I wouldn’t say this boards for everyone considering the price point it’s listed but I wouldn’t say it was the most regretted purchase I’ve made. Overall I’m extremely impressed with how my board’s build quality came.

I bought my GMMK Pro on release and it's definitely the purchase I regret most. For anything like half price it's sort of worth it, but there's so many better options out there.
@bonanzabrandon6877 Жыл бұрын
For me it's important to remember the context of when the gmmk pro released, back then most of the options consisted of waiting a year for a $400 premium keyboard drop, getting a crap mass market keyboard from corsair or razer, or getting one of mass drops offerings or something from old keychron, back before the q series and they were aggressively neh.

I bought the barebones last year because I wanted a custom keyboard but I never want to have to do more than just swap out key switches. It came with the overlubed stabs that were impossible to use. I did some research on it and Glorious themselves claimed to have fixed that problem 11 months prior. Because I wanted a low-maintenance keyboard, I RMA'd it and got another. Same problem. Bought some lube, took the keyboard apart, bada-bing bada-boom, and vowed to never get a keyboard from Glorious again.

As a note bare bones now I got the gmmk 2 barebones 96% for 80 bucks plus kailh box whites for 40, with my own keycaps for 60. It sounds amazing and only cost me 180 total. Not bad imo. This is for the GMMK 2 though.

Not really a comment on the GMMK Pro, but I just bought my first "better" keyboard a couple weeks ago and wanted to thank you for the channel and all the hints and tips. I watched a LOT of your stuff. ❤ The Q1 barebone was -50% and in my Nordic ISO config, and that finally pushed me over. Bought it in the navy blue colour, built it with Gateron Phantom Yellows and Keychron's own white and blue PBT keycap set. Force break mod was all I did, and man do I love it. It's kind of rare to really have my expectations exceeded, but this time they really were. My previous keyboard was a Logitech G610 with Cherry MX browns, and there is just no comparison. It's so, so much more satisfying to type on the Q1. Anyways thanks Hipyo! 😊

Guess you didn't realize you can use the top foam from the box to use to open the keyboard. Great way to have a station for the board.

i think it is still a good value for the price, does feel a lot closer to a premium keyboard than it does to a box store keyboard.

I bought the non-pro/no-knob version for a total of $64 and I've really enjoyed it so far.I watched a lot of your content to arrive at that decision but to be honest, it was because most of the boards on my list weren't in stock or were $200+. It feels and sounds good, but I have plans to do some of your mods to improve the sound. The Ascend keys gotta go though lol

I was waiting for the answer “because you can buy it in retail stores.” Don’t underestimate the power of being able to have it immediately instead of waiting a few days from shipping. If a lot of these other [cheaper] boards were available at Best Buy ready to pick up for example, the Gmmk pro would be irrelevant. There are some stores like Microcenter that does sell some keychron products in-store, so that’s something. Too bad there’s not many of them around.

I only bought razer and steel series keyboards and decided to "upgrade" to this. Until watching this video, i thought this was the pinnacle of what a keyboard was lol. Compared to what om used to, this is way better. Guess I was really mistaken. I just ordered the lemokey L3 since you recommended keychron and will probably return the gmmk pro. Got an instant sub from me. Great videos.

I have the GMMK Pro, started with the original and added the flex kit later. Glorious really kick started the more reasonably priced custom keyboards so I'm quite happy they did that. It still has one more key than the keychron q1, a slightly smaller build size and I do like the side RGB. The Monsgeek M1 is very good value, however the looks are still a slight minus compared to the GMMK pro, GMMK pro is a little cleaner looking and the knob isn't just a straight through hole unlike the Monsgeek. Better after market knob choices for gmmk. If I were to build the GMMK pro now, definitely get it customized with the flex kit from day one. It's probably better value that way. One thing none of the other kits have is the looks though. The side RGB lighting is still unique and provides nice ambience. And it sounds quite good with the Everglide Aqua King V3's or Gazzew U4T. That said, there are some pretty annoying issues with the GMMK Pro. PCB to plate screws strips quite easily (I had issues of it not screwing back in rather than not coming out). Stabs were not great, had to get Durock V2's. But yeah on a sale it might be worthwhile if the looks are what people like. And more top plate and bottom colour options. Flex kit is a must imo, just a better building experience at the very least.

After wanting to try out custom keyboards, I got the GMMK Pro at release. Working on it has made by buy and enjoy the Razer BlackWidow V4 75% (good video on that btw). I learned to appreciate keyboards, but I only have time to really put in the switches or keycaps I want, so buying a decent base keyboard and switching out the minor stuff tunes it perfectly for me.

Have an Akko ACR Pro 75S. South facing RGB, hotswap, prelubed Gold Pink switches, gasket mounted. Was available on Amazon for $160. Sounds much better than the stock GMMK Pro prebuilt. Love GMMK but they've been out of their minds with this keyboard since there are so many other good offerings these days. Even Razer has a better offering tbh. Sure it's a bit overpriced but to have a custom keyboard able to do Razer Chroma? Insane.

I recently got a the Hexgears i2 keyboard an amazon for $69 and I gotta say. It’s probably the beat board I’ve ever had. But I’ve also only ever used regualr gaming boards before lol. I mean the board is hot swappable, 75%, pbt keycaps, and full rgb! I think it’s a great deal for it’s price tbh.

I purchased the GMMK Pro 6 months ago and I don't regret it at all. It was my first custom and I did A LOT of research before buying a keyboard. Some of the main reasons I chose this one was I really wanted an all WHITE TKL or 75% with FULLY CUSTOMIZEABLE RGB and a knob. This was one of the only ones I could find and the other two options I was thinking about were both out of stock for months at the time I was looking to buy. I got the barebones kit so that I could buy my own keycaps and switches and overall I love my keyboard! It's truly so beautiful and I end up just sitting at my desk and typing nonsense because it sounds soo good. In total I spent about $275 on it but that's also because I got a custom purple aviator cable and kitty squishy kitty key cap. I also think the Keychron is so ugly, sorry.
