I really love the budget keyboard videos. It just shows how most of us can actually get a pretty decent mechanical board without having to spend a couple of hundred dollars to get started, as long as we're willing to do a tiny bit of really easy mods. Sure, the more premium customs are great too, but when I watch those vids, it's with the knowledge that I will likely never own that board because it's just going to be out of my budget. This was the first "barebones" I bought (after tearing apart several cheap mechs). I've since bought several barebone kids (both expensive and cheap, like this) and I keep coming back to how much value you get for the price. Is it lightweight and cheap? Does it feel cheaper than it looks? Does the software suck? Yes...across the board...but, as you showed, a little bit of modding and you have a surprisingly good plastic mech. I have 3 with various degrees of modding and they're often the ones I show to people to give them an idea of how cheap you can get into the hobby. You can usually only get the Black or white for $22 on the SuperDeals, I've never seen the other colors below around $35. I've built 4 of these so far and all had some plastic between the PCB and foam which I left after poking hole through. I did have to lube the stabs and one I did the tempest mod but didn't need to as it sounded great without it. With Morandi or Milky Yellows it's quite and deep but with say Cream Blue Pros it's very poppy. Super fun builds for cheap, glad you finally built one out as well.
@someonewrites9657 Жыл бұрын
hii, this is my frist time building a custom keyboard and i also used this same exact board. You mentioned that this board had some plastic between the PCB and the foam and i wanted to ask, i was modding my stabilizers and ofc the noobie that i am, it still had some rattle on them. Therefore, I've redone lubing the stabs and wires 4 times but it still had some rattle sound but the more I inspect it and hear it, it sounded like the plastic?? I feel like i'm losing my mind, i am so unsure whether i still messed up modding the stabilizers or it has something to do with the plastic. If its okay i wanted to ask, does the plastic have an effect to that "rattle" like sound i'm hearing after lubing the stabs and wires? If so, is it removable and should i remove it? (i haven't seperated the PCB, foam and all that jazz since i don't have the right screwdriver at the moment)
@MarbsMusic Жыл бұрын
@@someonewrites9657 Hipyo could probably shed more light than I can but I wouldn't think the thin layer of plastic would effect the stabs because it would be below where they are mounted. I guess technically it could but I would guess the rattle is coming from them not fitting tightly. While I haven't had that issue on this board I have had a few others were they just didn't fit snugly and that caused a rattle even if lubed properly. I believe you can get film that will fit in between and help that but I haven't used it. I just bought some better stabilizers I found on sale somewhere.

I just built a GMK67 from Aliexpress - with Leobog Greywood V4 linear switches and a set of double shot PBT clone keycaps, and after all taxes and customs, it came in at exactly $72.05. It's true about the stabilizers, they could use some work, but I haven't done any mods to it and it sounds better than in the video. Zuoya have started adding a layer of plastic film behind the PCB, and if you leave it there and just punch the switches into it (or pre-punch some holes like I did), it's basically a built in tape mod. I honestly don't see how modding would improve this sound (except the loudness, the Greywoods are loud). Also - what is the issue with the software? I have compared it to VIA and the others and if you have just one keyboard, like most people, and don't need to record dozens of layouts and setupos on a single machine, it does pretty much everything they do, with a good UI and layout.

This keyboard is absolutely awesome. Despite being a plastic board, it's one of the best ones I've felt. The round borders of the keyboard makes it feel good to the touch compared to those sharp acrylic or metallic border ones. It feels like a toy in a good way because it's welcoming you to use it and carry it around. It sounds fantastic. The wireless features are nice to use and feel fun with the light indicators between the arrow keys and fn key. It's good for gaming, even rhythm games play well without any chord split. No matter what people say... to me, this keyboard is the best purchase of 2023. Just swap the stabs, they suck

I didn't mod it, didn't feel a need to (I have Bobagums in it for those curious) and its pretty damn quiet (which is also exactly what I wanted). I cannot FATHOM what a keyboard would have to be or do to justify $100+ when this keyboard exists. I'll give you one reason why these low budget keyboards are so popular. In countries like Brazil (where i live), a standart custom keyboard can cost up to "R$ 900" (Brazil's currency "reais") because of taxes and because our currency is devalued (which would be like paying US$ 900 for that same keyboard). Imagine that everything you wanna buy from outside the country costs 5x more, plus all the abusive taxes we have to deal with (which can go up to 92% of the product's price), thats why a US$ 30 custom keyboard is so appealing to us.

Made a purple multi color pastel PBT caps version with lubed screw stabs, tape mod and Akko yellow cream pros and ya. I have to admit it's pretty nice so I gave it to my daughter.

I bought this keyboard but from Amazon cause I couldn't wait. I really like it the sound and feel of it, but it turns out I really need the F row. Also with south facing led's don't light up my key caps!

, I'm waiting for mine to arrive. I ordered the barebone kit because I already have lots of switches and keycaps. Euro 29,00 with free delivery. I wish there were such options when I started this hobby 😥

I've never seen it as cheap as 22$ but I have built 3 of these now and tbh it's my favorite budget board atm. Nylon jwk switches and some thick keycaps makes this thing about as low pitched and creamy sounding as you can get.

This is the first board I built from scratch and apart from the iffy wireless connection, I really love it. I just wish it came in UK flavours. 😭

Wow I also got the blue color and the exact same keycap set (version w/o the hiragana sublegends) for 11/11, that's crazy! Paired it with Gateron milky yellow pros, stock foam and tape mod and it's got that creamy goodness.

If you want basically the same board here already built the Epomaker EK68 is a good choice. I have it with the Gateron Yellows and it sounds almost exactly like the build in this video.

I have been in the keyboard scene for about a yearbor so, built like 5 custom keyboards, but I still don't understand why british people shouldn't look when there is a knob in a video

I've used this product and considering the price, it's a really great product.

How long does the kneed-able eraser mod last before drying out ? Thinking about trying it out !
