Honestly, Anne could be a spy but maybe not by choice. It's a trope that can go one of two ways. One, she's forced to be a spy because the Explorers have her family or say they're going to help her find her family in exchange for this information. The second possibility is that her family might be gone, possibly BECAUSE of the Explorers, and they took her in, so it's all she knows to survive. The third unrelated to the trope is that the Explorers is run by her family and, again, she does what they say because that's all she knows.

Another theory that I have is that Amethio and Anne are siblings and both are forced to work for the 'Explorers' and the two are threatened by the organisation of I don't know, by hurting their parents or even worse by killing their parents, i'm sure that we're going to get Alain and Team Flare 2.0 with Anne and Amethio being like Alain and Mairin minus Chespie and the 'Explorers' being 'Team Flare', if this turns out to be true, then this new Pokémon series will turn even better that it currently is, 3 episodes and we're getting what we the OG fanbase have been asking for so long, imagine what the other upcoming episodes have in store for us

In hindsight this makes a so much sense. When the pedant protected Liko form the attack Amethio’s reaction suggests that he didn’t know that the pedant could do that but he was still after it. Knowing her dorm number and where he got it from is also suspicious. There is another point though you didn’t bring up. In Liko’s dream where her grandma appeared we saw flowers being picked up by the wind which could be symbolism implying that her grandmother is dead but she didn’t tell Ann. If that’s true then it will also explain how she knew straight up that Amethio’s letter wasn’t really from her grandmother and why Amethio didn’t know about her grandmother being dead. There a few holes in this theory however like Amethio arriving at the academy right before Ann left and Liko just telling Ann that the pedant is a good luck charm which wouldn’t be a good enough reason for the explorers to be after it.

There's actually more info that helps prove Liko's grandmother being dead in episode 1. Liko: Huh? A letter from my grandmother? What? Liko: A letter from my grandmother, that's...! If her grandmother was alive, wouldn't she say why instead of what. And the second sentence Liko cuts herself off before finishing and goes on to say "Something's weird about this!. If she finished Liko probably would have said "that's not possible or that's impossible".

And I think Liko telling Anne about the pendant was only for the audience, so we all can know what the pendant is about. And also if Anne is an antagonist she could steal the pendant without any trouble since she knew that Liko didn't even wear it till now.

I am really glad someone brought this up. From a writing stand point as well it makes sense to have a twist like that later down the road considering from now one we’ll probably be spending more time with the rising volt tacklers and Roy and have them be the main cast. Sometimes I feel like the explorers trying to steal the pendant aren't really bad people. They desperately want the pendant for some reason but it seems like they don't actually want to hurt liko or sprigatito. I could definitely be wrong lol but it feels like they're worried about something. Like they know something and want to prevent it from happening. We'll see.

Yeah I definitely think so too. Amethio and their group seem quiet honourable. The only thing they really want is the pendant. Amethio himself ensures Sprigatito wasn't used as a hostage and didn't mind it being treated well. He also takes up Friede's offer to battle for Liko and her pendant. I am willing to bet they're gonna team up and take down a common enemy during the climax of the story.

Honestly, this theory isn’t too crazy- I’d actually thought of something similar to this! But more I felt like Anne has some sort of relation to someone with the Explorers, and kinda unknowingly overshared things during a casual conversation without knowing of their malicious intent surrounding the pendant. She does seem like the type that would excitedly tell her friends/family about everything interesting that happens, and would probably share all the information about who her new friend is without any concerns, and without realising that some of this information should be kept to herself. Definitely seems like it would fit her character well, based on what we’ve seen of her so far.

Nah man, Ann seems trustworthy and proved me wrong about Liko not having a single friend in the academy 🙁 Can you imagine if Ann was an ally of the explorers?😮 That would totally destroy Liko intensely because Ann was her very first friend in kanto, the one that would never alienate Liko like the other students of the indigo academy do. In other words, her best friend 😢 I prefer if Friede was the true villain in Pokémon horizons (because I believe the rising volt tacklers are vicious and evil. More evil than even the explorers, who at first I thought they were heroes) because Ann is so NOT villain material☹️

I mentioned this in Luap's video The Explorers have knight themed Pokémon like Skarmory, Ceruledge and Corviknight While Anne has an Oshowat whose evolutionary line has a similar knight theme to it (though more Samurai) So really think the theory has merit if look at that as well

I'm not going to jump to conclusions too soon, since we're only 3 episodes in. As interesting as it would be if Anne told the Explorers, that might not be the case. The very fact Liko's mom hired The Rising Voltacklers to be her bodyguards shortly before the Explorers showed up at Liko's school probably means that they (or maybe some associates) went to Liko's family in Paldea looking for it while she was at school and eventually learned Liko was the one who had it. I'll admit, while Anne being a twist antagonist does sound interesting, this seems like the more likely possibility. As for why Liko's mom chose to hire The Rising Voltacklers, or even knew about them, I don't know at the moment.

I think Ann is connected somehow since it just feels way too coincidental for Amethio to show after Liko makes friends with Ann but I don’t think she’s evil if that makes sense

So I have a theory. What if Ann was a member of team Explorers and she was sent specifically to obtain Liko penitent and spy on her.And it could be possible that the explorers could be a big organization just like team rocket and Amethio and others were sent to obtain Liko penitent.Ann maybe could be just a normal student but if she was with team Explorers it could be a plot twist. How does he know? :3 And keep in mind, after that crazy event in episode 1 with the pedant, Amethio also wants LIKO too since he believes she is tied to the pendant's secret and whatever that force field was.

If this does happens that Pokémon horizons has god level writing . I kinda both want to see this happens and don’t want to see this happens. I don’t want to see this because I love Ann as she is and want to see more of her and liko friendship growing and becoming more developed . But this will also be the biggest twist in Pokémon since Beni was revealed to be a ninja . If they do make her an antagonist I want her to be either the Mastermind or a redeemable antagonist that doesn’t like what she I doing but forced to or fells like she doesn’t have a choice but to do what she is doing . I want to see emotions!

Ye I kidna suspect Ann too cause like only Ann asked Liko and knew about the pendent and it comes from Liko's Grandma , so Ann Could secretly be one of the members of The Explorers

Honestly I've been thinking the same thing as a personal theory too plus I do have another theory that maybe Liko's teacher is probably one of the Explorers the entire time when he was hanging on a low profile or he's also a spy too cuz teachers of all sorts in the pokemon anime being the bad guys are pretty much a common concept like Lysander as Alain's second teacher and master who used him for his whole plot to try to gather mega evolution energy and use it to try destroying the world in any way possible like the corrupted giant rock and corrupted Zygardes for his main evil scheme until all of Kalos, Ash and friends, Steven and Alain stopped him once and for all will help from Zygarde Complete Form who completely ended it entirely so yeah Liko's teacher could probably be the one working for the Explorers

I've said it before and i'm gonna say it again, Anne and Amethio are related to each other meaning that they're brother and sister, The Explorers have their parents held up as hostage in order to get Anne to act as a 'spy' for them by going to the boarding school in Kanto, the Indigo Academy, and Amethio do to their dirty work to get the pendant for them, because if Amethio does not comply to the orders given by the 'Explorers' then the whole 'operation' goes down the drain and the 'Explorers' try to kill their parents, I also predict that Amethio down the road as the series will progress, will switch sides, siding with the Rising Volt Tacklers team, kinda like Alain in XY&Z did, when he learned about Lysandre's evil plan, mark my words when I say this that, 'The Explorers' are 'Team Flare' 2.0 and that Amethio and Anne are Alain and Mairin 2.0 without Chespie, or Oshawott could very well be part of this too, in a similar fashion to Chespie

On ep 6 preview looks like Roy also have a pendant(orange instead of cyan). However the explorers didn’t seem to be chasing Roy at all. This may add on to the mystery. Also the rising Volteccers(?) crew prob might know about the pendant as they were ‘hired by grandmother( I think?)
