Things like that make playing rom hacks so much better than playing through the base rom without. Other ways I've seen it handled were Trade Stones for those types of Pokemon (Pokemon Glazed) or simply having those kinds of pokemon evolve by leveling.

Gamefreak will never add something like that in because they want you to do that whole "playing Pokemon on the go in public and battling and trading with passerbys and members of your community similar to how school kids play physical trading card games" as that is the core idea of Pokemon and so in their mind that is the most important part of Pokemon caus if you play in any other way that doesn't involve that idea then it wouldn't be Pokemon, that's how I think gamefreak sees it

I just realized, this rom hack gives gyms their intended function. By letting the player choose which of the 16 gyms to battle first, it allows you to take the opportunity to level up the Pokemon you've captured by going after type effectiveness, which makes the gyms into actual gyms. This rom hack officially became amazing.

I hate how linear games are but I also fear open world just as much. Even with the improvements this has made to the engine, it does show that these games need something akin to a decent curve at least for a narrative purpose. I don't want a visual novel but I also don't want a straight walking/battle simulator.

That was the main problem I had with Sun/Moon. Walked 8 steps? Cutscene. Turned to the left? Cutscene and Battle. Here's a mandatory, respawning wild encounter that can infinitely bring in more Pokemon making the wild Pokemon, equal in level to the Pokemon in the front of your party, the biggest threat you've faced in the last 3 hours (WHY WOULD YOU MAKE THAT A THING?). Far far FAR too linear.

I'm not sure if this is an unpopular opinion, but I've always thought that the need for HMs was a horrible mechanic. Having to carry an annoying HM slave instead of just a pokemon that you actually wanted in your team was just not fun for me. It's nice that they removed the need for them in this ROM hack.

I believe it's a way for the player and their pokemon to be connected, or interdependent. It also links the two main gameplay functions (map exploration and battles). Without HM's, your pokemon are only important in a battle.

Aside from graphics (which you could still debate) this fan made project is better than any of official games in recent memory. For anyone on the fence about getting it it's 150% worth it. Praise is justified.

Enabling such deep modifications and sprite work is why I love simple 2D graphics and the long gone era. You don't need forever to tweak a little cloth texture at the lower back of your character, you just do your 256 pixels and you're set. The high skill entry to some assembly coding in combination with less focus on graphical fidelity lends itself to a natural filter for highly passionate people while still being capable of achieving work on par of the creators without obsessing over each and every nook and cranny. Unity be damned; its easy to use tool box flooded us with so much shit it became hard to see the gems. Limitations give rise to creativity. There's beauty in simplicity. Crystal Clear is freaking amazing.

Riley Nelson Why not both? There are Eevee gift Pokémon at both Goldenrod and Celadon. You don’t even have to start with an Eevee to get a team with both Umbreon and Espeon. Hell, you could get a full team of Eeveelutions just by starting with Eevee and beating the Elite Four once. SS has set up event and gift Pokémon so they reset once you beat the Elite Four. So, you can go back to Goldenrod and Celadon and get two more Eevees after beating the game once.

I think the mistake that happened here was ShockSlayer distributed the hack as complete ROMs instead of an IPS or xdelta patch. Distributing complete, runnable ROMs can get you in trouble, so only put up for download "the parts that you changed" relative to the base ROM and let everyone sort out the details of that for themselves. So I'm watching this over 3 years in the future and this game has so much more to offer. It's become extremely shiny hunting friendly, there's a secret battle at the very end of the game (you have to beat the mt. silver champion, e4, all gyms and finish the dex) and there are a couple more hidden areas too. The few that I found were around Saffron City, Cherrygrove City and Azelea town, along with Mt. Mortar and the Lake of Rage. Also the Gyarados event scales with badges and when you have too few badges it's a magikarp instead which I think is pretty cool. Overall I give this hack a 13/10

Andy Garcia Did you evolve it? This hack lets you get to Porygon2 so quickly. I started in New Bark, made a beeline to Goldenrod, picked up Kenya for Fly, flew to Sylph to get the Upgrade, then went straight for the Tradeback guy. I also traded for the Onix in Violet to get access to a Steelix later. You can also stop at Fuschia quickly and grab Surf without any badges.

I was blown away by this hack. So much so that I replaced Brown on my usb cart to play it on my gameboy. There’s just so much packed into it than meets the eye initially. Whether it be the quality of life features, dialogue, Infrastructure, using strength on the truck while listening to Boogie wonderland to buying a house from Macho Man Randy Savage after telling Lt. Surge to go home and be a family man. Having played both Brown and Prism religiously, I can safely say this has become my new favorite Romhack.
