Oh dang! I had to google it, but the only ways to get a water stone in Emerald require dive, and ironically that’s the HM the Mind Badge gives you. So it would have been impossible you to have a Ludicolo before then!

Focus punch is a move that hits in one turn, but requires that the user isn't hit during that turn. The animation of focusing is just so that we know what's actually going on

Focus punch is a 1 turn move from start to finish. At the beginning of the turn is tightens its focus and then resolves after you've finished your turn. So if it tightens its focus, and use your turn to switch, it will finish its turn by landing a punch

Natures/IVs/EVs on Gym-Trainers: Natures: pseudo-random (they are fixed in the game, but they haven't been chosen with any thought in mind. In fact, I can tell you which bytes are responsible for the nature of a specific trainer, but I cannot tell you easily which nature they have, since two days ago I tried to change a nature for a rom hack I'm making) IVs: They have equal IVs on each value, better trainers have better IVs. Gym trainers have generally something like 20-30 EVs: The AI doesn't get any In addition you should factor the badge boost in when doing any math. (Some badges give you a 10% increase to certain stats)

Focus Punch is a one turn move but it results in the user basically flinching if it's attacked that turn. Brawly's Meditite is pretty much free in Emerald as long as you dont switch out and always go for the attack.

I love these challenge runs so much! And I think you did fantastic considering how difficult Hardcore Nuzlockes tend to be. Couple of explanations that may help in the future. Hope it's not too annoying: 1. Focus Punch is actually a 1-turn attack with delayed priority, meaning it always hits last. The "tightening its focus" bit at the beginning of the turn is just to indicate that it's charging the move, because it will inevitably fail if the user is attacked before they get to deliver the punch. 2. In Gen 3 (and I think 4 as well?), vitamins won't affect a Pokémon if they're either at full EV capacity (510 EVS total, accounting for all 6 stats) or if the specific stat you're trying to boost has already reached 100 EVs (the max for a single stat is 252 EVs, provided the full EV stat total doesn't surpass the aforementioned 510 cap). So it's possible Luigi hadn't yet maxed out its Attack. 3. You can get a free Double Team TM in Route 113. In fact, I think it was that item that you can see here at the 20:30 mark, when you're training Slippy. 😅 I know that still wouldn't help against Aerial Ace, but if you're ever in need of evasion strats for other Hoenn challenges, there ya go!

Brawly's meditite cannot attack you unless you do *not* attack it, so spamming attacks through the machop and meditite is viable, but the fact that papasea paralyzes the Guts Makuhita then wonders why Brawly will be so hard to defeat is just... poetic.

Against the Meditite from Brawley, you only need to attack each turn and you are save. It can only attack with focus punch and that only works if you don't attack. (For example absorb from Grovyle is nice)

I was just doing a vanilla locke in Ruby when I reached the Safari Zone and instantly remembered this video lol. A little tip, in gen 3, sp moves are: All the eeveelutions, including 4th gen (Dark, Psychic, Water, Fire, Electric, Grass and Ice) + Dragon. In gen 3 Ghost type is physical, so, your Keckleon was hitting with Atk and not with Sp Atk.

Focus punch is a move that only lands if the user isn't hit on the turn they use it. It's not a two turn move, just a weird activation. Funny enough, the Meditite is programmed to only use Focus Punch, so if you just keep attacking it can't do anything to you

For anyone else who wants to try this: Grovyle gets Dig and Rock tomb via TM, which are pretty good against most of Flannery's team (just not Torkoal). I've been working on a Treecko solo run and have had to rely on Swagger since Brawly (from a tutor in the Slateport Fan Club), which is a shame but it's good enough for my purposes.

I decided to Calc the damage for Breloom v Slaking With neutral natures on both, +6 attack, and STAB you've got a 50% chance (approximately) to OHKO without crit. This is also assuming Slaking had max IVs in defense. Anything above 9 IVs is a %chance

You should never status the fighting types because almost all of them have the guts ability. There's also no need to switch against brawlys meditite as you can stun lock it if you just keep attacking
