I found the editing and VO a bit off towards the end, you were talking about using certain pokemon and where to find them, meanwhile the video is just cruising through the E4. I think it would have been nice to see the areas you were talking about a bit more edit: rewatching it a bit, I think it would make sense to show the E4 teams when you're talking about them. (obviously not really necessary in r/b runs since we're all so familiar with the teams there, but my ruby sapphire knowledge is lacking in comparison)

Hey jrose! I’m loving the nuzlocke content here and there, quick note for Ruby, sapphire and emerald, Minun (and to the same extent Plusle) absolutely break the elite four for nuzlockes, if I’m not mistaken all the first mons of each member almost always go for a status move, you get substitute, then encore the status move they can’t use since you’re subbed, and then baton pass onto another team member that can either wreck their team as itself, or to baton pass to someone who can set up a bit and then just wipe their team. The KZbinr Freezai explains just how broken Minun is for gen 3 nuzlockes. Managed to find a Minun for my emerald nuzlocke, and him and Ninjask chain baton pass cleaned the elite four little to no issue, and Minun was never a hinderance using throughout the nuzlocke either, ESPECIALLY with the 7.8/10 too much water hoenn region.

This may be Emerald only, but there is actually a way to guarentee a Magneton, depending on your definition of Dupes Clause! In Aqua Hideout, there are 2 static Electrodes, 1 of which you can catch, which if you count any member of that evolution line as a dupe, lets you go back to get a guarenteed Magneton! I would recommend this, as Electric Steel is a nutty type combination in older gens.

In case anyone was wondering, Treecko is actually a VERY good starter for Hoenn Nuzlockes, despite it being the weakest starter, due to the abundance of water types and only being weak to two of the gyms. It’s still outclassed by Marshtomp, but only because there are very few grass type trainers in the game. Across all the generations though, Treecko does more for you in Hoenn than most starters do for you in other regions.
@av22792 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Water type 8th gym, team aqua in sapphire, and and water type champion in Emerald counts for a lot. To be fair, Jrose relies a lot on leveling up to outspeed things in his solo run content, so maybe he also doesn't know how valuable it is to reliably outspeed your opponents when playing with level caps, which sceptile does.
@dontmisunderstand60412 жыл бұрын
Hoenn has by far the strongest starter trio of any generation. I'm not too bothered by the claim that Treecko is the weakest of the three, because it's still very very good. Reasonably speaking though, Torchic is the weakest. Struggles vs 4 of the final 5 fights in Emerald, 3 of the final 5 in Ruby/Sapphire, and is weak to the last 3 gyms while also being weak to the first gym.
@johnf62632 жыл бұрын
Treecko would be so much better if it at least got Mega Drain instead of being stuck with Absorb until Lv. 29 while the other two starters get 2 40-60 power STAB moves as early as Lv. 16. At least this was fixed in ORAS by giving Treecko Mega Drain at Lv. 13. Also love ur Hooty profile pic btw lol.
@rpglover59552 жыл бұрын
While I agree that treecko is not a bad pick in gen 3 since you do get an abundance of waters, grass types in general aren't very good in gen 3, and outside of roxanne, if you aren't playing emerald, only the 8th gym is one where it has an advantage (with wallace for Emerald). And the thing is, you can easily guarantee a magnemite by catching a electrode in the Aqua Hideout of Lilycove, then backtrack to catch Magnemite in the Power Plant outside of Mauville. Not only that, staryu is pretty easy to get around the water routes near Ever Grand City/Pacifilog (or you can fish it outside of lilycove if you don't get wailmer there) which can learn thunderbolt and is a fast water type with decent special attack, which can handle the 8th gym more or less solo, and there is always the chance to get a oddish/gloom in either Slateport, Mauville or in some of the tall grass sections before/after Fortree. Coupled with the fact that if you are playing base ruby/sapphire, grovyle's learning moves pool is kinda bad up until leaf blade. And outside of all the above, Sceptile doesn't really bring you much in the E4 fight unless you're on Emerald, where it can have some contribution against some of Wallace's pokemon (albeit Tentacruel & Milotic can be tricky to deal with due to their coverage) Mudkip on the other hand, in addition to only having about 4 trainers with grass pokemon that are mandatory (3 of them being your rival, and no mono grass gym to deal with), gives you a free roxanne (more or less), if you are playing ruby/sapphire a free wattson fight (less free in emerald due to exploding voltorb lead), which can be a run killer or at the very least a hard fight , and once marshtomp & swampert is gained, can be a good pivot against random electric types due to it's immunity (pairing really nicely with the Broken Gyarados despite not having physical water stab yet). Stab mud shot while 95% accurate with the speed drop & raw damage output can deal with half of flannery's team, can learn Ice beam if you don't have an altaria answer for the 6th Gym, and can spam surf against tate & Liza relatively safely (especially Ruby/Sapphire where they only have 2 pokemon), and while not super great into anything specific in the E4/Champion fights, can be made of use with surf spam or just to take a hit & possibly bait some moves for other team members (Ice beam is a little less useful from Swampert because it isn't the fastest thing ever, so you would prefer a tentacruel/Starmie against drake). I will say though, ORAS did at least buff treecko significantly in movepool distribution (and if you use megas), so at least there it's a lot more viable as a starter

Honest opinion, Watson is the hardest fight in the game if you don't have Marshtomp or Shedinja due to the crazy RNG with Parafusion and only one or two chances to get a proper resist depending on your version and starter due to the high special attack and defense of Magneton since this is pre special split, so most available special attackers are weak or don't resist Magneton.

I won’t spoil the surprise and tell you what I used, but given you’re a lot more experienced at this than me and will presumably do it faster (although there were a few lucky segments which you may be less forgiving of and spend more time levelling up or resetting if the luck was too good), it may be a solid contender for a top 3/5 finish. Wasn’t expecting it, but it got a very good time. The only trainers that genuinely took a while to get past were the last three

Mightyena is an underrated pokemon for a Gen 3 Nuzlocke. It might be overlooked but with intimidate it's decent. Especially since you can guarantee it and also gyarados to have double intimidate on your team. But don't use Crunch, it's special in this gen. Return, Shadow Ball, Dig and Howl is the moveset to go for. You can also use swagger or taunt (can be life saver against phoebe). It also gets Thief via level up, so you can steal items from wild pokemon and trainers.

Aron becomes Lairon at level 32, and Aggron at level 42. Lairon doesn't really have good enough stats to be worth using. Aggron is basically an elite 4 only pokemon due to how late in the game it's available. And you can just catch a Lairon in Victory road as your final encounter to get it. 3:20 Gardevoir is one of my top three favorite mons, but I'll always say it has 29 problems, called levels 1 to 29. Once it reaches level 30, it becomes a beast, but until them the poor thing falls to someone looking somewhat intensely in its general direction. It is THAT frail, and it can't really take down mons in it is suposed power range that easily either. Kirlia feels like a first form mon, compared to the power Gardevoir has. In fact, the initials ARE stronger than Kirlia in their base forms, and even mons like Shinx are barely weaker than Kirlia (263 vs 278 total base stats). Gardevoir is almost twice as powerful, stats wise, than Kirlia. Hell, Pichu is stronger than Ralts, and Pikachu is MUCH stronger than Kirlia, while Raichu is quite weaker than Gardevoir! So yeah, unless you are lucky and VERY careful with Ralts, it's not exactly prime material for a nuzlocke. Not until level 30. Also, the fairy type and moves gave Gardevoir a lot of power that doesn't have prior to that.

personally i think torchic is the right pick for a few reasons. your basically guarenteed a pokemon with type effectiveness, whether its seedot/lotad, wingull, shroomish, or trading a slakoth for makuhita. so once your passed roxanne, blaziken is the best mon for the elite four. solos sidney, glacia, and 5 of stevens pokemon. rough for the gyms but easy endgame

yeah the part about ralts being weak is so true, ive tried using ralts in oras in the fighting gym, because i thought psychic fairy should be insanely good there, but no, despite the 4x resistance it got bodied, dont recommend.

Ralts evolve in the " very late game"? The final evolution is on level 30, that mid-game and it's really good for the second half of the Game. Aron on the other side is way worse than you make it sound like, "Aggron would obliterate Norman" I guess you are right but at level 31 (the level cap for Norman) it's still an Aron, it's final evolution is on level 42 so you, so right before gym 7. Also, give Zigzagoon it bit more respect, it's not just a Hm slave. It gets Headbutt very early, and it evolves at level 20. It's not helpful in the first 2 arenas but it helps with random early trainers, and later it can be an HM slave.

Also, he sacked his Breelom against Skarmory when he could have simply used the Electrode that was already on the field

Jrose does his nuzlocke videos like a guide though. Pchal reviews single nuzlocke play throughs.

Hey. Throwing a thumbs up and commenting to support the channel itself. Never been a fan of nuzlockes myself, but I hope everyone else enjoys.

In one of my Emerald runs, I managed to get a Lombre and a Dustox for Norman. This meant that I was able to protect with Dustox->switch on the loafing turn to Lombre->Fake out->switch back to Dustox->repeat until Slaking fell into Mach Punch range from Breloom. Even then it was kind of tricky because I had to thread the needle of keeping Slaking above healing range but low enough that Mach Punch was guaranteed to kill.
Can’t wait for you to go for Emerald Kaizo some day, it’s like the king of Nuzlockes, pls do it!

Isn't part of the idea of a Nuzklocke that you don't want to lose Pokemon? That you're meant to use skill to keep all the pokemon alive?

Love the videos as always Jrose, was looking to do my own Ruby/Sapphire Nuzlocke and this is inspiring! Looking more towards your next solo videos too. Hoping to see more of Gen 1's more overlooked pokemon like Farfetch'd, Tangela, and Lickitung. Also... can you beat Pokemon Red and Blue... with only Missingno. or Pokemon M??? ...I'm kidding, don't do that.

Spread moves do 75% as opposed to 50% no? Related to Tate & Liza comment about surf.

I could be wrong but I thought the move with Norman was to teach DIG to marshtomp to manipulate truant. And then probably Breloom for the vigeroth
