I did a regular nuzlocke of Heart Gold, Dunsparce was the mvp of the run. Being able to solo Whitney (with fucking rock smash no less) Dealing with falkner pretty comfortably, and contributing to most other gym fights (including clair) as well as team rocket encounters only finally meeting it end to Lance and his multiple dragonite (which if it didnt get crit and didnt miss blizzard it probably would have been fine) after that nuzlocke I 100% respect the power of Dunsparce.

I have a similar story. I was young and didn't know about shinies. In Pokemon Ruby I got a shiny Torchic as a starter. I reset because I didn't like the color of it lol. Little did I know.

Never knew that Pokedex categorize by color. After spending some time looking at what goes into what catogorie I can say that like 20% makes no sense at all. The Alakazam line should definitely be in yellow and not brown. Probopass should be red or blue not gray etc etc.

Story time! My last copy I got from eBay (and this was my first and only copy) had this problem where after you bear the 4th gym if you close the game and start it every time it would just be a black screen but still had music and could still use the main menu and makeing a new game was the only way to fix it but it still did the glitch every time you beat the 4th gym

There’s high chance that your copy is counterfeit. I had same experience with my Pokemon Emerald ( this was long ago ). Every time I beat E4 it erase the save. Only few years ago I found out that my Emerald copy that I had when I was a child was fake.

few key points that I feel could have gone differently can't really do much about dunsparce dying to kingdra the best counter to destiny bond is killing with a non-damaging move. this would be very difficult, since you can't poison gengar, can't use will o wisp. if you get the sandstorm tm, then sandslash might have had a use here. swagger for confusion would be risky, but possible. the best out would be exeggutor with leech seed (if it can get it) but others already mentioned you could have had it. exeggutor could also play well with dunsparce or girafarig, drawing the shadow ball then switching out after leech seed. though setting up the seed could be tough since exeggutor is so slow. just letting girafarig die seemed like a bad move, maybe you expected it to kill and it fell short? I think switching out into maybe hypno would have been good, then try shadow ball, or switch into typhlosion. fight against karen seemed pretty clean, but there's a few things that could be good to keep in mind. taunt to shut down umbreon (if you can get it). ok maybe there's only one thing to add. also I see light screen on ampharos but if you can get reflect, that might have been more useful against outrage. also, while it's a gamble, dig on sandslash to try and avoid hyper beam of they have it. dunsparce might have defense curl/rollout too. toxic protect could be amazing, but of course the toxic tm is in kanto. and lastly, shuckle seems like it could have been useful. encore. maybe

When I first played Crystal, I managed to beat Whitney on my first attempt because I got incredibly lucky and managed to put her Miltank to sleep for about 5 turns with the first Sleep Powder my Bellsprout used, and then Fury Cuttered it with Sandshrew until it woke up and healed with Milk Drink but couldn't do much damage on the next turn and fell to Fury Cutter around two turns later. Dumb luck, just saying.

You might be bad for now but here's a few tips : - As a lot of people have mentionned, you could have gotten evolution stones from the Pokéathlon, and some other cool items too ! - Metronome is cool, but it some cases, it might be more effective to use Choice Specs (which you can get at Lake of Rage) if you want to spam a special move since the bonus is a reliable 50% and not 10% each turn - Not to sound mean, but your Typhlosion's moveset was very bad. Unless you wanted to play around the burns, you didn't need to keep both Lava Plume and Flamethrower. Typhlosion learns great moves like Earthquake too I'm really sorry if it sounds patronizing, it's not my intention at all. I'm bad at nuzlockes too because I can never handle the death of the bunch of 0s ans 1s I call my starter.

my first run in johto was in soul silver. I liked it but there were a lot of things that bugged me like the level scaling and some of the remade soundtrack. I always figured it was based on gen 2 but I still didn't like it. now that I've had a chance to play gold on virtual console, I've gotten to liking johto a lot more. the soundtrack and specifically the sounds of johto themes. just the look of those games. there are things I really like and appreciate over the remakes. but I still think it's a hard claim to make that the originals are better than the remakes. gen 2 is a bit rough, especially with movesets and trying to make different teams when so few pokemon have good moves, or even enough moves for stab and coverage.

IVs are a stat between 0-31 in each area (attack, speed, etc) that you cant see and is predetermined when you get the pokemon. They influence the overall stats you see in the summary screen, and EVs go from 0-255 in each stat category, but can only be a max of 510 total. Certain pokemon that you knock out will give you EVs to also boost your stats in the summary screen, like in heart gold if you knock out a magikarp you will get a speed EV
