Pokemon Emerald Mini is nearing completion!

At 1:56, due to suggested comments I’ve decided to remove the healing in between the E4 members to make the challenge tougher. However, since the 3rd and 7th gyms are all double battles your Pokemon will automatically be healed because if the script forces a double battle and you only have 1 Pokemon alive it will glitch the game really bad.

@@ITRso I was curious myself, so I looked up some variant of “what happens if double battle with one Pokémon” and found two relevant videos that may provide some answer if OP doesn’t clarify. 1. In Pokémon Emerald, someone used a catch trainer Pokémon code to then try to catch one of the opponent’s Pokémon, forcing their opponent into having a single Pokémon in a weird way the game doesn’t expect. The result is that it puts one of the Pokémon’s back sprites where the front sprites goes, and some random meter appears above the HP, and… that seemed to be about it. However 2 was far more interesting, 2. Pokémon Shiny Gold Sigma (an early-ish Gen 3 rom hack) so they had an egg and quilava and entered a forced double battle. What happened was the game had them sending out 2 identical Quilava. They then at some point after the they KO one of the opponent’s Pokémon and opponent sends out their Pokémon, check the Pokémon menu and it shows two eggs out of alignment of where a Pokémon in your party is supposed to be, but when they return to the battle itself, they have glitchy looking Togepi backsprites, with moves it shouldn’t have as an egg, named Egg at L5. Once the battle ends, it forces a white out even if the player wins. I think that’s where it cuts off, but I assume at that point the game just thinks the player has no party Pokémon which could in theory introduce a soft lock. I imagine with it being a ROM hack and describing a similar scenario, I’d guess it’s something close to that If so, it would just result a few interesting graphical glitches into a white out into a broken game. Since it doesn’t seem very useful for the player (think Gen 1 Glitch City in terms of effect and usefulness, but this glitch seems like it’s easy to accidentally trigger just by playing the game casually) even if the player likes glitches, they probably chose to save the headache of having players submit bug requests or ask for help because they might not know what happened or why really. So if that’s the case, I fully understand why they chose that workaround. I hope this helps, and I hope it don’t come across as me speaking for OP. I think the Rayquaza being lowered to Lv. 45 is a bad idea, but not for gameplay reasons, but because having a Rayquaza met at Lv. 45 would make it illegal for transfers. Otherwise, extremely cool stuff!

Depends on whether or not wild encounters are part of the difficulty. If they are, then using a minified version would make the challenge easier because you don’t have to move through less grass/caves.

Looks so cute! I love it! The only decision I feel is off is lowering Rayquaza's level. The appeal of using legendaries for those of us that do is that they are absurdly OP. Still this looks awesome, looking forward to more!

ALREADY almost done!?!? I only saw the demo like two days ago!! My only complaints are: >Not a fan of the Rayquaza having its level lowered to 45, since now it's not the same as normal Emerald. If you insist on lowering the level, I feel like they should be at least level 50 instead. This is because when you think about it- you catch Groudon/Kyogre in R/S during their mayhem in Sootopolis. But you catch Rayquaza AFTER their mayhem in Sootopolis in Emerald and in a different location. By the time you get back over to Spear Pillar to catch Rayquaza, it’s likely your team will be in the 50s- leaving Rayquaza underleveled. Also, if you think Rayquaza is “op at this stage of the game” just don’t use em? >Not sure how to feel about the elite four being back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back. I'm all for QOL, but healing you for free after each battle goes against the spirit of the Elite Four. It makes them more of a Battle Tower kinda thing which is not the E4. >For some reason, I do not like the idea of Kings Rock and Metal Coat-evolving Pokemon being compatible with *just* the link stone. It just doesn't feel right. They should still require their items- but pull a Deep Sea Scale and Deep Sea Tooth, where you can just use it on them. However, the items do need to be made more accessible, as Kings Rock you only get one and the rest are from the Battle Frontier or 5% of Wild Hariyama, and Metal Coat you ONLY get from 5% of Magnemite. I'd assume since you have to remake the whole map, you need to re-place all the floor-items anyways. Personally I'd give out a Metal Coat after doing the New Mauville stuff with Wattson (if New Mauville even EXISTS, that is). Everything else is awesome!!!

What about Feebas? Will their method of obtaining and evolving the same or you are going to change that? I'm just asking because I really like Milotic and I always wanted to use it in my playthrough of pokemon emerald, but I gave up, when I learned how to catch him and then how to evolve him (both things are pain imo). I actually have a suggestion to remove that whole random tiles thing to catch it and make it simple link stone evolution (since in later games it evolves via trade, while holding prism scale)

Wow, this project is crazy and really cool. One suggestion that is pretty silly but i think would be really really cool, if every sprite was reduced to be smaller ( you know like the gba screen is 240 x 160 soo the screen size should be 120 x 80, and i think you can achieve such thing using 4 pixels square for each pixel if you know what i mean, just keep the text the same size for easy reading... and yeah i know it would be alot of work specially for every pokemon sprite but would be trully a mini sized adventure) ps if you or anyone would do that maybe in the future i tried to do that in regards of the sprites.

I know this might sound silly, but could we have an option to disable the heal after each elite 4 member? It sounds more like a button masher and less of a challenge when you know you'll be fine without preparing at all and sweep the league thanks to getting healed and not have to bring more of your own healing items or strategize more. Eeeeh, considering most people already heal between E4 fights, the autoheal fits in more with the spirit of this. Plus, 5 end game fights in a row with no chance to heal would probably be fairly brutal and not for everyone.

It'd be nice if there was an option to save Rayquaza for the postgame and battle it at its original level instead, so it can still be legal for transfer through to Pokemon Bank/HOME like it sounds like most other Pokemon in the hack would be. 1:55 I'm gonna stop you right there. *Why* That is the concept of the Elite 4, slowly draining your resources against the toughest trainers in the game before finally going to face the champion, that is the entire point the entire appeal of the Elite 4. Sure I can understand giving people the *option* to heal but anyone who wants to Nuzlocke this game is going to feel like a little baby having their hand held, the people who want to just heal between Elite 4 fights stock up on potions beforehand anyway. I don't mean this to be extremely negative but this feels like a design choice that falls outside the purview of the original philosophy of downsizing Pokemon Emerald, this is game design change to a pretty big degree.

I have some Questions, will the trainers be slightly more challenging than the vanilla game? For example, those trainers that have Ludicolo or Shiftry and a few others only have their lvled up moves, which in some case it's just lvl 1 moves.. so they're not really a threat Most pokemon in gen 3 have very bad lvl up moveset too, and the One Time only TMs are a pain, it'd be nice if they're at least Buyable in Battle Frontier Also the version exclusives Pokemons, for example why not catch both Zangoose and Seviper, it's emerald after all it should have both >.< Anyways, I'm really looking forward to this lil version of Hoenn! That's why I'm curious about these stuff ^^

Is it possible you could put in a EXP cap setting for nuzlockers? For example if the highest level Pokemon of a gymleader is 15 your Pokemon couldn't go past that level like in some romhacks that have a nuzlocke setting.
