My dudes, an anonymous user has recently leaked a playable prototype demo of Pokemon Gold from the Nintendo Spaceworld '97. This is a goldmine of new unused content to discover! Most importantly... UNUSED and ALTERED Pokemon designs! Absolutely mind blowing!

I'm going to give you MY opinion on these pre-pokemon. I think Rayleep was supposed to be Mantine, because Rayleep sounds like a flying manta ray. also, look at the way it's wings are designed to look the way Mantine's look nowadays. Madame looks more like a Farfech'd evolution and DON'T tell me that's too FARFECHED. I AM DONE WITH THOSE PUNS. For the original Sizor, I can only imagine him with a green scale color, so... yeah, glad they changed it. The wolf ones look like they're old ideas for Mimiku, since they are wearing other pokemon fur. Sorry for making you read this... :(

I doubt that Aipom was planned to be a Legendary just because it was listed as Pokémon number 250. Chimecho’s index number comes after Deoxys and THAT isn’t a Legendary, they just forgot to program him in the game up until late in development.

The water starter is actually based off of nudibranchs and the Loch Ness monster although they are very similar to seals. Rayleep is also the original design for Mantine. Manta/Mobula rays are known for jumping out of the water. Ray-Leap Rayleep.

This is parallel reality type stuff. From what I understand, we only got the version of Gold/Silver we did because of Iwata's genius, to the rescue. They originally weren't able to fit Kanto and Johto on the same cart. I guess this is the version we would of got if Iwata didn't save the day.

Eel-like Pokemon? Bruh, Gorbyss and Huntail existed before the Tynamo line. The possibly beta Lanturn looks more like a mix of Gorbyss and Huntail than the inspiration for Electrik

4:23 Hey, man. Great stuff. But just so you know the 1 in Sunmola1 is a naming convention utilized by Gamefreak to denote the stages of Evolution in beta and alpha builds. According to the google docs by the dataminers, the only Pokemon that has a number in it's "true name" is Porygon2. 5:25 Animon is in fact a Ditto evolution and was going to apparently evolve with Metal Coat. Makes for a very interesting connection to Ditto and it's exclusive held item Metal Powder in retrospect, doesn't it? 5:57 Interestingly enough this version of Girafarig was Normal and Dark type, instead of psychic. And it's dark side actually looks quite malicious when looking at it from the back facing sprite. 7:36 The Pokedex has been calling the Pokemon on Slowpoke's tail a Shellder since long before the anime or this beta. It's not something the anime pulled out of it's butt. It's very likely it is a Shellder and Turbann is just a semi-lost Shellder evolution instead of an entirely new species.

I’m pretty sure the reason Turbann was named that wasn’t for the headdress, but for the turban shell, a shell used as the home of the horned turban, a type of snail. Turbann looks pretty much identical to the turban shell aside from the mouth and eyes.

I think Rayleep is a type of manta ray/sting ray. It has "ray" in its name, and rays are known for jumping out of the water :D

From the information I found: Rayleep(3:26) is a prototype of Mantine Grotess(4:42) is the evolution of the shark thing Twinz(5:45) is the pre-evolution of Girafarig Pangshi(9:33) is based on Chinese zombies which are called Jiangshi (and maybe that's why it is a panda) Phanpy's appearance also change a bit. That Porygon 2 is halarious lol. Porygon Z should have been Porygon 2 but with a ton of hair

Grotess just looks like Huntail to me. I think Madame would be the evolution of Farfetch'd because of the plant it holds, and since you pointed out that it looks like a swan, that makes the Farfetch'd-Madame evolution line a prototype for the Ducklett-Swanna line, with a not-very-good-looking duck evolving into a pretty nice looking swan. also, now the Legendary Dogs confusion finally makes sense! it's Legendary Beasts, not Dogs, since the final three are felines (tiger, lion, cheetah) but now I finally see where it comes from. they were dogs in the prototype. that makes way more sense than it should.

there was a forum discussion on another website where people were arguing for or against the 'legendary cats' theory, and someone said cheetah for suicune because it's so sleek and fast and because of the markings on the muzzle. but now that you mention it, I think leopard is more likely. I never heard leopard as option before.

You may already know these by know, but I'll put them here anyway: * Rayleep was likely a beta Mantine. * Twinz was supposed to be a pre-evolution of Girafarig. * The unused dark cats were likely recycled as Purrloin and Liepard. * Pangshi evolved from Kurstraw, which is based on a voodoo doll. * I think Warwolf and Wolfman were redesigned as Swinub and Piloswine.

A few things to note: *Pangshi* looks more like a *hopping ghost* ; the hat, scroll on his neck and the fact its on a hopping pose. *Porygon 2* looks like *Kon* from Bleach. Ironically Kon in bleach is a modified soul put into a lion toy to bring it to life. Maybe both of them are from a similar folklore? Maybe animating inanimate objects with life, since porygon himself is a digital monster; so the next thing is a living robot/toy? *Hitmontop's* early design has two eyes above that single eye; I believe that single eye is painted and not an actual eye since martial arts talks about a 3rd eye; which when opened grants great power and wisdom. Both hitmonlee and chan are based on fighting styles so this isn't hard to believe; more evidence this 3rd eye thing is real, see Tien from DBZ who is also inspired by it. *Rayleep* looks like either *mantine* (the manta ray pokemon) or more likely *Togekiss* . Since both togepi and his evolution were in generation 2, maybe this was the early idea for him? Since he also looks like an angel-plane. *Sunmola* is more likely based of the Mola sunfish; which pokemon reused with *Alomomola* . It's even shaped the same. *Grotess* looks more like *Huntail* from generation 3, it's nearly exactly the same except the light on its head. *Twinz* looks like the yugioh card "Double Costen" which you can use as 2 tributes instead of one; probably the same folklore too. Rai, en and sui are likely not their full names but placeholders to represent their original names. They probably had raikou, entei and suicune already decided but either got lazy putting them in, or more likely the team wasn't entirely sure to settle on them; so they put these shorterned versions until they were sure.

Its crazy to see how gold/silver still influenced the later games all the way to diamond/pearl with a few of its own maps being taken from the beta of gold/silver. Hell, it even uses some of the early music. These where a serious game changer(pun kiiiinda intended), we just never knew HOW big untill recently. Makes me wonder what the beta version of ruby/sapphire was. We recently also got 2 new beta pokemon from red/blue/green shown recently from game freak. I hope we get shown more from the later games sometime.

Could it be that Ho-oh was hte MEw Two of early build Gold and Silver? Becuase that would make sense as it is closer in game design to Red and Green, having a postgame hidden legendary. It's possible the idea to make a legendary for each version was thought of later. but damn, that is a LOT of great design info on the early pokemon! And hearing the demo was finally dumped means we could see an english rom sometime soon! That would be awesome, jsut for the experience

Go watch "Go West Meowth" from the Gen1 Anime, Meowsy is in it. Quilava was the only form of Cyndaquil's family that I ever actually liked. Personally I would have rather had Quilava become the Arcanine of Johto that everyone loves & gotten the original Fire Starter for Gen2.

Just so everyone knows, there are a few inaccuracies in this video and a few things that weren't mentioned. First off, Grotess is the evolution for Anchorage. Also, Bellboyant evolved from Weepinbel with the Poison Stone, which was scrapped in the final game. Madame is actually Farfetch'ds evolution. Also, Kanto DOES exist in this beta! But it's been turned from a slightly smaller full region into a single town, albeit the largest town in the beta. And another thing: Impostor Professor Oak appears in the beta too! And there's a town which has an aquarium, that might be a prototype of Olivine or Slateport cities.

The early Girafarig design reminds me of the "pushmi-pullyu" from the "Dr. Doolittle" stories. I can imagine a gym puzzle where you'd have to push several of those guys one way or another to make it through to the gym leader, kinda like a huge game of "Rush Hour."

Hey TetraBitGaming! There's a reason why Ho-Oh is the only legendary bird in the Gold Silver prototype, and that's because Lugia was originally made exclusively for the Pokemon 2000 movie.
