It's funny that since this video, Binding Band has become a pretty legit item in competitive singles. Binding Band Heatran with Magma Storm is a pretty strong Pokemon, it forces so many predictable plays. It's something a lot of people prepared for in SPL during Gen 8 and iirc it's back in Gen 9? Fire Spin Hydreigon was a godsend in Gen 8 UU for the longest time too. It's really strange. I guess there's Whirlpool + Perish Song lower-tier waters but they don't really benefit from the items. Trapping moves mainly work on Pokemon you can't really afford to switch into, while wanting to use a bulky variant of the Pokemon. Protective Pads is also sold a little short. It's been used by tons of Pokemon in the past, specifically in Ferrothorn tiers. Garchomp uses it a lot, for example. The most notable use-case is Rapid Strike Urshifu, which takes tons of damage from Iron Barbs otherwise. Rocky Helmet is insanely common, even today, it's an extremely good item in a post-Heavy-Duty Boots world. I remember Metronome having some use-cases as well? I think Skeledirge uses it right now?

Beef the feck up with one or two Leaf Storms, and then spam Giga Drain to completely negate the downside of Life Orb and just clap butt cheeks while sitting at full HP. That was really only viable during gen 6 because of power creep in later gens, but it _WAS_ really good at the time. ... And even in that scenario, Big Root was still not used. HA!

As a comment on the seeds, they actually work wonderfully, especially with something like Hawlucha. Right now, Hawlucha is OU in significant part due to getting to switch in on terrains, activate a seed, get a swords dance on its switch in, and then just spam acrobatics and close combat until the entire opponent's team faints. I think I'd put it above both berries, since it's extremely unlikely that Chesto or Custap will be on the best set of any OU pokemon, while the seeds definitely are. Then again, this is very OU biased; once you get to the lower tiers you start to run out of terrain setters. In OU itself though, it's not hard or bad to set up terrain at all considering how many good pokemon also happen to set up terrain.

Golurk is actually a fun Pokemon to use with Klutz + Assault Vest, since Klutz makes you unable to get the effects of your item, meaning it negates the draw back of it. I know this isn't the right format, but red card is rly good in 3v3 singles just because leads are more important there. also with golisopod you can use first impression, get hit for half your health from even super effective moves because of hp ev bulk and then you both switch (red card triggers first, they don't choose and then you get to choose). I think that this item can get cracked in the right situation by giving you free setup, a good machup(or a free dead skarmory) and a still alive golisopod with half health and free 80 base power priority. this can also work with pokemon with switch moves and some bulk but you will be hitting the switched pokemon which is probably better since they don't plan to resist u-turn, but you also need to be slower. I don't think it should be ranked higher on this list tho since it is way more impact full in 3v3 than 6v6

Eject button is ok. It gives momentum which is a huge part of singles. I see it every once it a while pop into the meta. Wide Lens can be pretty useful with one specific move: Triple Axel. Normally boosting a 90% accuracy move to 99% isn't a big deal, but when you need to hit that 90% check three times, it does make a serious difference. Normally you have a 72.9% chance to get all three hits of Triple Axel for that sweet 120 base power, but with a Wide Lens, it becomes a 97% chance, so you'll go from not getting all three hits over a quarter of the time to getting it nearly every time. However the main abuser of Triple Axel, Weavile/Sneasel, still prefers Boots or Choice Band, but Wide Lens on them for the much more reliable Triple Axel is genuine utility.

Overall very niche and meme but at least more useful than Float Stone lmao There's some other berries that weren't covered, but like, nothing major: Kee/Maranga for a +1 Def/Sp. Def after taking a physical/special hit; Jaboca/Rowap to inflict Rocky Helmet damage once if you're hit by a physical/special hit; Enigma is pretty much a supereffective berry but instead of reducing damage it heals 25% HP; Lansat is a pinch berry but for crit rate; Starf is a pinch berry but for a random stat but 2 stages (idk why you'd use Starf lol, if you're feeling lucky just use Focus Band, as you've said yourself lol); finally, Micle is a pinch berry that boosts the accuracy of the next move by 20%. Tricking a lagging tail on one of those numerous slow, bulky pokemon with good damage doesn't sound that horrible - being slow anyway, you'd likely go second anyway, so there is at least no disadvantage. Tricking it doesn't cost a turn - cause you get initiative on the next turn wether the enemy stay in there or swaps. And lagging tail could seriously cripple some adversaries, being similar to paralysis in such an instance. So yeah, a moveslot and an item for a thunderwave+thief does seem actually kinda useful. I think usually just using thunderwave and a good item is more efficient(especially for the full para chance). But sometimes, stealing the opponents item can actually be really helpful. It's really situational, but I wonder how often this could be good and on which mon..

The seads are actually pretty good items I can understand in the lower tiers but in Generation 7 and 8 OU and doubles the terrain setters are top threats AKA tapu Koko, tapu lele, tapu bulu, tapu fini, and rillaboom tapu koko and rillaboom specifically have U turn and Tapu koko also has Volt Switch, light screen, and reflect I would put them in the Amazon tier because they're not just like on every team but in the right circumstances you can effectively get bulk for free in doubles and outrun and kill everything in singles

Protective pads is a very useful item in gen 8 ou mostly because rough skin and rocky helmet are very prevelent. It is very useful on blaziken, urshifu and kartana. Adreneline orb is also very useful on swords dance kartana because kartana has high attack and a speed boost is very handy (especially with beast boost attack boosts).

Weirdest niche for Blunder Policy is with The gen 8 fossils, notably Dracobeak. Because it has Hustle and Boltbeak, it has a miss chace from hustle (use Dragon rush for ‘reliability’), you can double your speed from a miss, doubling Boltbeaks power alongside hustle It hits like a freight train but its a diceroll, especially when choice scarf Dracovish is literally right there.

I’d be a little bit more lenient on the absorb bulb and friends just because you can put them on a Pokémon that _resists_ that type, and then switch into the attack as you normally would want to. It’s still not very good, but it can still provide a nice boost to your power Also, grass types aren’t QUITE that bad. A lot of em have a lot of problems, yeah, but the type itself safely swaps in on Earthquakes and Scalds without any real problems, and it also makes Pokémon like Ferrothorn much more dangerous than they would be if just pure Steel

@@ImportedCheese I’m the weirdo who prefers fast offensive grass types like Sceptile and Leavanny anyway: lot of weaknesses + good resistances is, in my mind, best suited to hit and run tactics rather than wasting time with leech seed. Protective Pads is not garbage. It's actually pretty good on Urshifu rapid strike. It uses a contact multi hit move and u-turn in a metagame where static and flame body are often used abilities which cripple it pretty hard (Zapdos/Volcarona/Heatran...). Not to mention rocky helmet Ferrothorn or Garchomp.

If you compare the amount of turns on Metronome, it will take 6 consecutive turns to do the same amount of damage that choice band did in those 6 turns. Only on the 7th will Metronome finally do more. And that's assuming you are attacking a single pokemon. If a choice band user faints the opponent in an earlier turn, that is extra turns the Metronome user needs to catch up on, so it will be beyond 7 turns before it comes out ahead.

Another use case for Red Card is on pokemon that want to do builky setup. Bellydrum Slurpuff gets all the attention, but it can make nasty use of cotton guard and calm mind to become a frustrating drain-tank, especially if the opponent is expecting the bellydrum set uses one of their turns to switch into a steel-type (+3 def) then gets red carded while you calm mind and activate unburden.

eject button on a defensive mon (better with regeneration) has a niche as you can switch into something and then get a powerfull frail mon for free EDIT: no they wont attack you again if you have rocky helmet, a lot of people will hard switch and not u-turn for example, and with Weavile triple axel and water urshifu that item is amazing on defensive pokemon, toxapex, corviknight, slowbro and ferrotorn really love it to the point where protective pads are used on those 2 (also Zapdos and Moltres as a bonus)

The only slight issue with air balloon is that It tells your opponent that you have it. It’s still useful for the free turn but you’re not faking your opponent out with it. Also binding band affects dynamics moves that apply trapped status like fire spin so it can be slightly useful but still bottom of the barrel.

Hear me out: on an Outrage or Trash Pokémon with high attack and Own Tempo, a Berserk Gene would basically just be Intrepid Sword +. The only major downsides are getting locked into moves would guarantee your opponents switch ins like Ghost Types switching in on Thrash or Fairy types switching in on Outrage; but if you take care of the Pokémon that could answer this earlier in the game, this hypothetical Pokémon could make a great late game cleaner. If this item ever came back and Annihilape got Own Tempo he could possibly be Ubers Ban Material.

"you can't plan to miss" Fissure Ting-Lu disagrees. Yes, this (i mean fissure, not blunder policy) was (is?) used competitively in doubles because if you hit - hey, enemy is dead. If you miss? Hey, stomping tantrum 150 base power next turn (which most likely makes enemy dead -110 attack STAB super-earthquake is no joke). Shell bell really ought to be 1/8; it'd still be bad, but at least it might be used by something other than FEAR A-Aron. AT 1/16th, you have to be doing near-100% damage to Pokemon with more HP than you on consecutive turns for it to be better than Leftovers. metronome is even worse, so choice items boost 50% and over six turns metronome will boost damage by 0% to 100% Which means that by the 6th turn of metronome, you've done an additional 300% damage... which so did the scarf move.. because boosting you move by 50% for 6 turns is still 300%.... so you actually need to use the move SEVEN times to get that boost over a choice items... by which you may have already swept the opponents ledyba at that point
