Maybe it'll have more cause if I'm not wrong sun and moon had around 146 eps and so did pokemon xyz, so I think it'll have 146 eps as well. 20 eps is more than enough to show double elimination and even after that they'll have around 10 episodes left for anything else. If you look closely at the tournament presentation trailer, you can see that it may have indirectly spoiled who will win the matches. During the encounters shown, the first to attack are Alain, Diantha, Iris and Steven, while the second to attack are Leon, Lance, Cynthia and Ash. Knowing that Leon and Ash will 100% win their battle and that Cynthia will win 95%, it could almost be said that the trailer is anticipating that Leon, Lance, Cynthia and Ash will win their fights respectively...

Cynthia apparently did almost wipe Iris and let's be real - the queen reigns supreme. Despite Guardevoir being Diantha's ace, I think Siegfried can win that - and even if not, Ash would wipe her afterwards, if he were to face her. Finally, they summons zamazenta and feeds it with galar particles and it starts raging, zacian calms it down and then I catch zacian and hop catches zamazenta. You do realize that the whole reason Lance vs Leon was showcased earlier in the anime was to cement Leona Battle Prowes to the audience in both real life and in the pokemon world. That's why Lance went ahead and grabbed Leon's hand and raised it on the air, saying he recognized Leon's Battle Prowess as the new World Strongest. Lance it's so strong, Kanto didn't have a Regional Champion for years because no one could defeat him, He became Champion after they inducted a new member who also failed to defeat him. One of the Kanto Elite 4 is a Ice Specialist, a supposed Dragon Type Weakness that Lorelei despite having a type advantage couldn't defeat lance. People saying saying Diantha has an edge cause she has a Fairy type are delusional. Lance also Took down Johto Elite 4 and has been confirmed as a Dual Region Champion. Is Former World Champion, Monarch and made the finals for a second time in a roll on the beginning of the season, meaning he is Former World Champion and current Sub Champion World Wide. Lance losing to the likes of Diantha would undermine Lance gesture towards Leon on the previous Final Match. Unless the producers have some sort of brain damage, I don't see it happening. Seeing how Ash faces Steven and the probability of facing Cynthia is very high, I think the writer of the anime did a fantastic job. Don’t get me wrong here. I really want Ash to battle Alain to get his revenge for the final of Kalos, but facing Steven and Cynthia are great because he never actually faced them before. He has faced the other trainers except for Lance also, but facing an opponent he has not face before makes the match more hype up.

I agree. I’m glad they did it like this. As good as it would be for Ash v Alain to have a rematch, I’d personally rather have Ash battle those he’s never battled before. Do you realize why Lance grabbed Leon's hand and raised it up high for the crowd and proclaimed him the strongest?. The match ups aren't random, they have a purpose. Lance it's the Former World Champion and Current Sub Champion, The whole reason Lance raised Leon's hand on the air was to endorse him, as his successor. Saying he, Former World Champion acknowledges Leon the new Champion. It is a given that everyone must lose to either Leon or Ash cause of PLOT ARMOR. A lot of the old fandom do not acknowledge Ash battle prowess as it stands, why? Because he didn't challenge any ELITE FOUR or CHAMPION. His Championship its akin to making a neighborhood soccer tournament on which there is no elite squad and saying he is the same as UEFA for example which is brimming with high level teams like Germany, Italy, England, Portugal and The Netherlands. Having Lance defeated by anyone else besides Leon would shit on the symbology the writers have established. The Writers are gonna reaffirm Lance's acknowledgment of Leon's by having more pokemon in the mix that the previous Final round. This way, Ash would be Indirectly beating Lance former World Champion and Leon current World Champion. Another reason is because believe it or not, Lance its popular as well, Sure Cynthia has all the fan art and the ero Doujinshi going for her since she gets waifued a lot. It would be a disaster if Cynthia and Lance Duked it out. Lance Simbolises Ash's Roots, so old school fans won't take it well if Lance Lost to Cynthia. Likewise people who like Cynthia would like it if Lance beats her. Leon is nothing.but a stand in, a Gag Character meant to hold both Cynthia and Lance Factions at bay. The symbology works well. Because both Lance and Cynthia end up ending in the Semi Finals after Cynthia beats Iris and falls to Ash, Since Leon and Ash are destined to win because the plot requires it, it gives the illusion that should Leon and Ash hadn't exist, Lance and Cynthia would be at the Top of the World consecutively. This is why Lance will beat Diantha, if after Lance hands up the throne to Leon, If just about anyone else beats him. It would cheapen Leon's Position vs Ash and his battle prowess.

Your projection is most likely accurate. Lance is or was the strongest trainer on the world before Leon Showed up. Kanto did not have a Champion before because no one could get past Lance, only through getting a new member for the Elite Four could Lance become the official Champion of Kanto, he took down the Elite Four of Johto and was a Dual Elite 4 and Champion. Now he's Champion of both Regions, also, Formar Monarch.

Ash winning and finally concluding would be the best thing that can happen to the series now. Keep in mind how insanely talented Ash is to get up into the top trainers of every single league with usually completely new Pokémon and finally standing up against champions. While it would indeed be weird to have Pokémon without Ash, we're at a point where repeating the same thing once again (traveling, joining a tournament, loose) doesn't hype the series up anymore. It needs a refreshed solution rather than having Ash loose solely to continue the series with him.

The whole point of the tournament is for Ash and Leon to battle. Cynthia VS Iris and Lance VS Diantha could both go either way (even though Cynthia and Lance are likely to win), but regardless, they're losing to Ash and Leon in the semifinals, so the winner doesn't effect the narrative in any way. They're just obstacles standing between Ash and Leon.
