I miss the Friend Areas so much! When I was a kid, I used to wander around them and make up stories about each place. I imagined the little house in Turtleshell Pond being owned by my partner Squirtle. It was like one of those little Pokemon play sets you'd have when you were a kid. And the legendary areas were so cool and mysterious! Man, good times!

Thank you so much for making this video. I absolutely love the friend areas and I'd often fall asleep while hanging out in them. Good memories. It's also the frist time that I've seen someone finish a "living dex" in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, that's a cool achievement. Some of these areas are so well-made you could have them as a poster on the wall, and as a kid I wanted to live in these areas myself. I especially like Turtleshell Pond, Shallow Beach and Tadpole Pond.

You want to know something else that Red/Blue Rescue Team did well? Including your recruited teammates in some of the story cutscenes. During the story's Sky Tower mission, I brought along the Magnemite that you rescue from Thunderwave Cave, and recruited a Duskull in the dungeon. After Rayquaza destroys the meteor, you get teleported and end up in Great Canyon, surrounded by Xatu and everyone else. Your partner then looks around says something like "What about our teammates? Where are Magnemite and Duskull?" And the camera shifts, and there they were, my two recruits. Yes, the developers decided to insert an extra dialogue to account for any teammates you brought along for the final mission. It acknowledges the different choices that players make during each playthrough. Thankfully, this tradition was continued in Explorers of Sky, where your teammates feature in almost every dungeon cutscene, and react accordingly. It makes any particular playthrough unique, because it is your customized experience by deciding who to bring along in the story missions.

Because long ago, i try recruit all species too. You need save and load repeat many time(try another different walking step just to make them want to join you). Especially legendary like MEWTWO that you need go to 99th floor first, and some species have 0,01% chance to recruit them. Like SNUBBULL, i think have 0,1% chanche to recruit him, also SNUBBULL rarely spawn around map.

It sure gets nostalgic watching this back... I'm not mad at how they've done it in DX too, it makes navigating them a lot easier and it's less hassle, and it's not limited to the size of the area. But I also have to agree it's really enjoyable to see everyone you recruited walking around. It was one of the things that really made you strife to complete each friend area. It's nice how they've reused the classic sprites for it and that there's love put in the artworks and remastered soundtrack to replicate the feeling, but it won't have the same strife. By the end of the day, it's a glorified PC box.

Honestly, I was annoyed that the partner "left" after the main quest, and that you could no longer stick together. Having multiple teams to choose from start while having the founders as the leaders makes sense to me.

Oh! That's a good idea having Golurk in the Ancient Relic. Especially since they already have Claydol there. Now here're my thoughts: I think Torterra would be best suited in the Jungle with Exeggutor, Empoleon and Eiscue could be in Ice-Floe Beach, Bibarel could be in Rub-a-Dub River and I think the regional variant forms might be in different Friend Areas than their original counterparts. For example, the Alolan Sandslash and Ninetales and the Galarian Darmanitan and Mr. Rime could be in the Frigid Cavern since they're Ice types and the Alolan Golem could be in the Magnetic Quarry. Also to answer what you're note sure about, I think Garbodor would be best suited in the Decrepit Lab while Indeedee could be in the Sky Blue Plains. I hope that's helpful. I guess I'll go with some of the others you and someone else mentioned. Though I'm not too sure about most of the Legendary and Mythical Pokémon he mentioned. (Except Regigigas.) Huh? Wait. Didn't I mention Empoleon being in Ice-Floe Beach? Especially since it's a Water type that lives in cold areas. So why Frigid Cavern where there's no water? Why can't Empoleon take a nice cold swim with Dewgong and Walrein? Anyways, let's do a summery on the rest. I get why you thought Serperior can be in the Beau Plains since its a Grass type. But I think it would fit better in the Wild Plains with Arbok and Seviper. Great idea for the other basic Electric types (Pachirisu, Emolga, Dedenne, Togedemaru and Morpeko) to be in Thunder Meadow. At first I wasn't sure to have them there or the Energetic Forest since Raichu's in there. I also wasn't sure at first for where the other basic Flying types (Staraptor, Unfezant, Talonflame, Toucannon and Corviknight) could be; Flyaway Forest or anywhere else since Swellow's in the Beau Plains. And not to mention Infernape. At first I wasn't sure whether it could be in the Scorched Plains since it's a Fire type or the Energetic Forest with Primeape, Ambipom and Slaking. I shouldn't forget about Pangoro. At first I wasn't sure whether it could be in Mt. Discipline since it's a Fighting type or the Energetic Forest for the same reason with Infernape. Do you think Archeops would be best suited in Flyaway Forest like the other person said since it's a Flying type or would it be somewhere else that's best suited for Rock types? Same question about Decidueye. Would it be somewhere else that's best suited for Grass types? I think Sigilyph and Cofagrigus would be best suited in the Ancient Relic with Aerodactyl, Bronzong and the others. 'Cause I don't recall seeing any ancient civilisation in the Furnace Desert. But Runerigus on the other hand could be there since it's a Ground type. Gumshoos in the Wild Plains? I wonder what the Kanto-native Raticate would think of that? That's a good idea on what you said for the other basic Bug types (Kricketune, Leavanny, Vikavolt and Orbeetle). I just got the DX remake and I just got to my first camp with magnamite. My brain immediately realized something was up. And here it is. Yeah I really think this a huge loss not having these maps/areas. I am genuinely baffled, and somewhat angered, anyone thought taking these out was a good idea. It is a cardinal sin when a remake removes or downgrades a beloved mechanic of the original. If you're going to do that, you're not the people that should be making it.

Seafloor cave will always be my friend and the water areas tracks but man this is sad that I can't access those in the game I legit feel ripped off bought the game thought it was an actual remake everything was good till I noticed no friend areas 😢

I know probably nobody will answer but what pair did you start with? I started with Totodile and Charmander as partner. Worked great for the main game but now I'm stuck on Kyogre already cause I didn't level my other members quite enough :-(

Ignore how I'm replying a month later. I started with Cubone and Cyndaquil, I mostly got through by being way over leveled

I played a few different times, but I think for the veeery first one I was Cubone briefly before I restarted. Then I was Totodile and Torchic I think? And Squirtle and Charmander.

I think the main reason why they didn't bring these back was that there would be too many interactable pokemon on screen and if they increased the size of the friend areas, it would make them more of a hassle to navigate.

Have the first 10 recruits show up in a friend area, then have a drop down display that shows all recruits in that area and you can star which ones you want to see walking around
