Unlike Archie, Maxie didn't have a Pokemon to aid him in getting to the Seafloor Cavern(Let alone a Sharpedo). I imagine Maxie finally snapped, used his Crobat to get to Route 128(Much like Steven did with either Aerodactyl or Skarmory), but had to physically dive, pushing himself just to make it to Archie all on his lonesome. Based on Mt. Chimney it seems to be implied the opposing team was moving too fast and they(Aqua in Omega, Magma in Alpha) kept arriving on the scene long after the Player had dealt with the situation, Archie took off on his own based on pure instinct, but Maxie's growing frustrations finally got the better of his otherwise cool and calculating persona. At least that seems to be what makes sense of it all, unlike Archie, Maxie isn't physically fit to do all of that so effortlessly. Most people aren't, AS Maxie's lucky to even be alive.

And now the main difference between the original and the remake happens. In the original, Maxie used the Blue Orb to awaken Groudon, resulting in a 'derp' moment for him. In this game, he uses the Red Orb, so no 'derp' moment in that regard. The fact that they couldn't control said Pokemon due to how powerful said Pokemon is still present, though, as it should be.

I don't understand how using the blue orb that would be a 'derp' moment. In the original it's the blue orb that can awaken him, and in the remake it's the red orb, they just swapped them. Also, in the original Maxie isn't even trying to awaken Groudon, the blue orb does it on it's own.
