This is a recording of my 7th post-Julia attempt and covers all the gym battles up until episode 18. This game isn't that difficult to nuzlocke once you know the tricks, but working out the strategies was really fun.

-Set mode
-No items in battle
-Only one encounter per area without exceptions. Dupes clause. No shiny clause.
-Garchomp and Arceus fights count
-Rare candies substitute for grinding

Thanks. It was a lot of fun. My first few attempts I legitimately grinded everyone, but it took an incredibly long time. I eventually switched to hacking in EVs and rare candies so I can focus more on the fights itself.

I love Reborn to death, but I seriously can't stand when people complain about the difficulty. It's hard if you want it to be hard. Just, use a tiny fraction of your brain, plan around matchups, and you'll be just fine!

Thanks! To be fair, the game was made much easier through EV training and training up a wide variety of Pokemon, which most people aren't willing to spend time doing understandably. The battles certainly were challenging which made it fun to solve, but definitely not impossible.

I imagine grinding must've been a pain in the ass and then some. How did you do it? Candies or something? Also how did you EV train? been wanting to try a nuzlocke of this game for a while now but the heavy grind aspect has kept me away a little.

Yeah, I hacked in rare candies and EVs with a program called Cheat Engine (there are tutorials on KZbin that show how it works). My first few runs I grinded all the levels and EVs, but it was too time consuming due to the amount of Pokemon to train, and losing the run was crushing. I had a lot more fun once I skipped the grind, and it was still a hard challenge.

Before nuzlocking, I've been playing competitive Pokemon for years. In terms of how I came up with the strategies, being limited in the Pokemon I could use forced me to think outside the box. I also refined the tactics across multiple runs.

Personally I found Amaria far easier in doubles, only used 2 mons. Alolan Raichu (with z-move) and Tsareena.

Can I ask exactly what your encounter rules were for this? I noticed you had a Gengar very early, which is only possible through the mystery egg... which is illegal with one encounter per area, as you'll always get Growlithe first (which you even used later for Aya). Double illegal, since you have to breed an egg and you took Hoppip in Obsidia, locking out daycare. Also the Hoppip and Tsareena, both from Obsidia. Just curious, ofc this is still very very impressive, just wondering what the ruleset is to make all that possible. I've been grinding out all Shade/Anna points runs myself with a few bans (time to add Baton Pass to the list lmao) and so far on attempt 19 with one attempt making it past Charlotte and two others past Corey (losing to Kiki in both cases actually, once when I wasn't experienced enough to get far, and once from a shit choke losing Delphox to Cal; still find it hilarious Turtonator took 90% with a 4x resist though. Would've actually died with a Flame Plate LOL). We have very different strats, it's really cool watching someone else's fights and analyzing what they're doing differently in a run with so much potential for variety. Taking Primarina vs. Delphox, Swalot vs. Zebstrika, Scrafty vs. Bronzong, as well as different strats like keeping Trubbish around instead of sacking to get tspikes for Cradily, or using Nature Power Acrobatics against Samson instead of changing the field for a Flash Fire Chandelure sweep.

We used different encounter rules. I counted one encounter per unique location name (so Obsidia Daycare and South Obsidia Ward would be two different locations). For eggs I used the hatch location rather than the location you receive it. My pinned comment has my record of encounters and their areas. Reborn is certainly fun to nuzlocke (besides the game length), and there are many viable ways to handle each fight. If you EV train early, Kiki to Agate are a lot easier. The big test of skill will be the Fiore Mansion Gauntlet. Hope you manage to beat it!

I personally don't count inside buildings (unless it's like a big dungeon e.g. Blacksteam Factory Ditto), but I allow 1 wild and 1 event per area to make up for it. I've been starting EV training after Shade since I personally find Shelly and Shade to be waaaaay too easy with it (did you know Shade consistently loses in 7 turns to an EV-trained Drifblim? Focus Sash to play around a Mimikyu crit, but it doesn't even OHKO you otherwise). Honestly? I think if I get past Terra the run's mine. Dangerous thoughts, but I'm not nearly as scared of Fiore or Adrienne as I am of Blake, Aya or Sirius. Late game has so many options, including a huge backup of shitmons to sack as needed for free switches and chip. ...and as you've shown me here, there's a very easy strat for Terra :p

Nidoqueen learns it at lv 43 in gen 7. Also, common candies can function as a pseudo move relearner.

Serious question: do you also reset the run if you get a bad nature (like Brave or Adamant) and/or Torrent instead of Liquid Voice on your Popplio?

I do reset if I got a harmful nature for the starter, but if it's neutral then I run it. I'd also reset if all IVs are trash. Getting the right ability isn't as crucial since ability capsules are relatively plentiful.

Yeah, I see what you mean... A starter with a reliable spread move that it learns relatively early is a godsend for all the double battles in this game. I get the sense that if Primarina had survived past Radomus, fights like the Glass/Fiore gauntlet and Aster/Eclipse 4 would have been _much_ easier for you. Or am I wrong?

@@Yeshua_Kristos The reason why it's incredible is that it is the strongest nuke besides Nidoqueen for half the game if trained in Speed and Special Attack (until enemies all have EV'd mons), is bulky and has a good defensive typing so it's good to pivot, and has an amazing natural movepool. Especially early encore, moonblast, and hyper voice, which are powerful and perfect accuracy attacks unlike Blaziken or Swampert's moves. It would certainly still be top tier up through the Agate circus arc, including the fights you mentioned. But I think it falls off a bit post-restoration against regular EV trained opponents that outspeed you and have good coverage. I would say it's the best starter for nuzlockes, but others may disagree because it's less favored against Julia if you play with a stricter level cap.

This is a nuzlocke where I had to do the battles on the first try. But this is my 7th attempt that made it past Julia, and I got better and better at handling each fight throughout these attempts. I definitely had some rough battles where I misprepared and lost mons in previous runs. For instance, I used to always lose at least one mon to Corey and Shade, and one of the attempts ended by Serra's Froslass sweeping.

@@komododragon5846 I haven't finished a full playthrough of Rejuvenation yet, but from what I played intense mode is harder than Reborn. I wouldn't count it out though. It's all about game knowledge. Hopefully this video and the other one of all the other fights can help you in your attempts.

How come you set the cap to 20 when that's really high above her aces level? I assume the fight is pretty much impossible without overleveling?

That's the level cap that the game sets for that battle. The fight is not impossible with a level 16 or 17 cap, although it requires luck. It typically involves toxic spikes Trubbish, Mega Drain Roselia and an Oricorio answer like Pachirisu or an evolved starter. Pokemon that trivialize the fight like Linoone and Mightyena would not be available yet.

Why is the level cap for the first gym 20 when the gym leader’s ace is 15? I get it that trying to beat Julia with a level cap of 15 is nigh impossible due to the complete lack of viable Pokémon at that level, but raising the cap all the way to 20 is just ridiculous.

I was just using the level cap set by the game itself. It is theoretically possible to beat Julia at 15 with VA Pachirisu and Roselia, but it's very RNG. I've set a lv16 cap in my E19 run.

I didn't know the game has a built in level cap at 20 for the first gym. Good to know. Still think that's way to easy and cap should be 16 because that's the highest level mon you face before you get your first badge.

I might have to remake this video when episode 19 releases. Although I doubt that it would change the gym leader strategies in this video since I hardly gave them a chance to move. It would make the other bosses more difficult.
