Things we missed in this video: Alex Ogloza won the US Nationals in VGC 2014 with a Politoed! Luckily, his team can also be seen in the Ludicolo video. Ludicolo wasn't present in Gen 7 VGC until VGC 2018. Also for VGC 2015, Kamran Jahadi did get 2nd at San Jose. The wrong graphic of his placement and team at a different regional was shown. While you could argue that Politoed was one of biggest the harbingers of power creep in the entire series, it also gifted so many pokemon, good and bad, with skills enough to finally shine. Even if only for one generation. I for one thank Politoed for its weather antics for defining how powerful previously niche play-styles could be.

I remember really liking the poliwag evolution line back in the day when pokemon stadium 1 was my only pokemon game... then, when I finally got stadium 2, I absolutely loved it's design. I always tried to use it on every game if I managed to find another person who I could trade with , but never had much sucess with him... and I was beyond shocked when I found out politoed changed everything in gen 5 all by himself. I thought it was a forgettable pokemon in the competitive scene, but to think it easily was one of the most infamous pokemon in competitive history simply due to a dream world ability was something I never imagined would be possible.

Fun fact: I actually quit competitive battling in Gen V because of this stupid frog. It was on virtually every team, and I'd have to sift through a seemingly endless sea of Rain Teams to find an interesting opponent. At one point I got bored and opted to make a counter-rain team, and sat at the top spot on Showdown for ~6 hours until that also got boring.

I remember running Swift Swimmers on Sun/Sand teams just for the same of having an easy hard counter to rain. My favorite meme set was Focus Energy/Draco/Hydro/HP Fire. Was pretty good at baiting in Ferro in sun and revenge killed most mons that would threaten sun under rain, with some synergy in crits ignoring draco drops.

Honestly he's not that bad without drizzle. I use him sometimes in Gen 3 matches. His water absorb ability is really funny. Put em on a team with lots of water weakness, then switch him into any water move. He's a thirsty boy.
