If we are talking about the best mechanic for balance I choose Dynamax, altough it have some problems like (super big extra HP) it was a good balance between Mega and Z-moves, Testralize will be a problem as the game will be even more RNG

If the problem is unpredictability, then just make the tera type visible on team preview. People raised the same issue when Zoroark was first revealed, then it became a joke because of team preview existing on gen 5.

That would be cool, for example: I have a Ice type and my opponent a Garchomp then I see he can Testralize to fire through Fire Fang, then I can hit him with other move expecting the change, that would add a new layer of unpredictabolity but this layer would be tinner than the other, so its a good balance

I don't agree with the idea of pokémon having a move of "every" type, more like a move of "any" type. They don't get all types at once. Tera blast is like a buffed Hidden Power. You only get one type and it depends on the pokémon itself.

I can see the confusion 😅. What I’m referring to is their movepool. Prior to this mechanic, a lot of pokemon had very shallow movepools when it came to type coverage. With Tera Blast, it effectively gives every pokemon access to a strong move of every type which you now have to be wary of when making your predictions in comp

Dynamax was only unanimously disliked in Singles while Z-moves were kinda unliked in both Singles and VGC (Basically the lesser of 2 evils). From a design standpoint, I've seen more praise for the kaiju sized pokemon over the goofy dance super moves (I do really like the Pikachu Z move tho)

I have to disagree, I think the competitive scene is too predictable. Look at the world vgc championships almost every team ran a zacian, incenaroar, or grimsnarl. Even if their move sets were different, because of type matches up alot of pokemon are excluded from competive play because their type makes them unviable. I think this opens the door to see more diverse team building and players will gravitate more towards the Pokémon they like instead of the must haves for the sake of being competitive

You have to remember that this gimmick benefits the zacians and incineroars just as much as it benefits the pokemon that never see any play. From my own experience, the metagame is most diverse ironically when it has limitation (ex. any regional dex format at the beginning of a generation). The more pokemon there are in a format, the more disparity there is between what is viable and what isn't.

Making Pokemon unpredictable creates the paradox. If you followed the guy who made the battle AI on showdown, he couldn't perfect the AI's prediction methods with what was available through Smogon. The whole point of there being metagames is that a certain play style is adopted. All the generational gimmicks created new opportunity for different Pokemon. This one seems to turn the competition upsidedown. The tyranitar in the trailer is a perfect point. Just when you think you have the upper hand you fall into a trap. Terra types will likely be the best competitive mechanic and will likely be banned from Showdown.

I dont think tera is problematic there is only 2 good tera typings for each pokemon mostly and since the meta is only fair to certain pokemon thus making it predictable you can build your team around it but admiteddly me saying this is a retrospecktive

Using smogon bans for justification is a joke, as they basically ban and limit everything until all that’s left is exactly what you said at the beginning, just becoming RPS

I'm not the biggest fan of bans either, especially because if everyone is using a specific mon, its predictable and you can teambuild around it accordingly. But When something is unpredictable, its impossible to have any proper counter play. The more things that are left up to chance, the less competitive the game is.

For example, knowing that most whimsicotts carry focus sash will cause a good player to play around the sash whether or not its actually holding it and adapt accordingly. Pokemon gimmicks have always made the game more decisive. You cant really adapt when ur opponent KOs ur pokemon for free and the game is already decided

This is catered to the competitive side of pokemon, which as it is a good size, it isn't the whole of the amount of people who play pokemon. I don't think gimmicks should be catered to just competitive. I personally think the new gimmick will be fun. I do, however, see the point you are making for people who play competitive. I think the best solution would be to just have two different brackets, one without terra, and on with. I think this is better because if you could see what pokemon had a certain terra, it would ruin the whole point of it. What do you think?

I don't know why but not being able to be predicted equaling to a ban is so dumb to me but I get it if the only way to beat a strap is to run the strat that ruins the fun ... bit I hate it as well bc I would have fun trying to beat the outcome even if I lost to it

Just how exactly do you think each pokemon will gain access to moves of any type? Am I missing some kind of move that matches the user's teratype? Is hidden power confirmed to be back? If none are confirmed then the message in this video doesn't make sense, not yet at least...

Yeah Its a lot to take in 😅 Pokémon revealed a new move called Tera blast which becomes the same type as the users tera-type. This effectively gives every pokemon access to an attack of every type. (Think of it like a much stronger hidden power)

@@itchyfissure From the looks of it, every Pokémon can Terrastilize. It changes it to the type you Terrastilize to. It makes moves of that type have STAB, or double STAB, if it's one of the Pokémon's original types, i.e. Pikachu's Thunderbolt would deal double damage instead of 1.5 times.

@@francescod2018 Regieleki is very frail, so it wouldn't be able to do all that much, even with a Flying, Steel, or Ghost type change. Also, it's not really meant to be an offensive Mon, but a supportive one. That's why most of its moves are support moves.

It made so many unusual pokemon actually viable (durant, rhyperior, zard etc) but with the recent gimmicks, it also helps the pokemon that never needed a buff in the first place. Giving incineroar and lando-t more options only solidifies their place on every team even more. On the brightside, maybe this is the year I can finally get Tyrantrum to work 😂💯
