Im not sure about the game, but in the anime, I think Ash's father was a pokemon researcher who was killed by mewtwo. I mean, have you seen how close Oak and miss Ketchum are? They're just like old friends. According to the christmas cd if thats considered canon, Oak even stays at there house occasionally. Possibly to comfort them through a fatherless christmas? Also, since Ash was late to get his stuff, Oak gave him his father's old pokedex because it was the only one left, thus why it's already filled up. Ash's father was also studying a pikachu with pokerus at the time, thus why Oak says "Theres something wrong with this pikachu" yet still doesn't hesitate to let Ash inherit his father's pokemon.

Pokemon origins - during the battle against Giovanni at the last gym. Giovanni started with the same Pokemon as red - charmander - they throw the poke balls same way as each other. Also in Giovanni's flashback he is a blacked out character that looks a lot like red from the games.

I think Giovanni is Red's father. It's intuitive, but let's see some aspects: 1.) *Similar character development* Giovanni chose the path of Evil, while Red started an Adventure, not knowing that he had to face off a powerful evil mastermind. They fought several times, and Giovanni finally changed towarda the good side, that's why Team Rocket failed to bring him back in GS. So the Story of Red & Giovanni is similar to Luke & Darth Vader. 2.) *Another Mastermind* If you continue to use a Star Wars based Setting, that means there should be another person who betrayed Giovanni in Order to reach their own goals. Someone who should be respected by the society and would never considered as evil. Palpatine's role would be perfect for Professor Oak. Maybe the betrayal led Giovanni to break up with Red's mother. 3.) *Blue Part 1* The Professor was expecting Blue to become the Champ. Blue always got the badge before Red, even in places where he shouldn't be able to (Cinnabar Island & Viridian City). Blue appears *always* in Spots that are relevant to get further. He must be defeated to see Bill who was transformed into a Pokémon (maybe by Blue manipulating the Computer), he stopped Red from going to see the Captain (who maybe was poisoned), and he appeared in 2 locations occupied by Team Rocket: Pokémon Tower and Silph Co. So Red should not be able to rescue Fuji or confront Giovanni. 4.) *Blue Part 2* How did Blue even get into the Silph Co Building? He was locked there, only reachable via Teleporter, but it was no problem to get the 6th Badge while Saffron City was still occupied. Later on, Blaine was locked in his own Gym, the Key hidden in a destroyed house. 5.) *Blue - The conclusion* Professor Oak used his grandson to watch over Team Rocket & become a Champ, all to be the most powerful person in Kanto, even if it meant to stop Red with unproper means. With a complete Pokédex, a family member as Champ and the pressure he could use against Giovanni, nobody could make a move against the Prof. 6.) *3 years later* Giovanni vanished, and Red somehow got the information Giovanni had a son, Silver, and also, that Giovanni and Red's mother once were lovers. So Red travelled to Johto with the objective to find them and reunite the whole family. That's when Gold started his Adventure, meeting Professor Oak, whose plans didn't work out because of Giovanni's leaving & his grandson not being the Champ. Oak resurrected Team Rocket and spread the false hope Giovanni would return. While Blue was degraded to a Gym Leader, the changes of the Elite 4 made Lance becoming the new Champ and later investigating the new activities of TR. Now, Oak was cornered. The young boy with his Chikorita and the new Champ were ruining his plans. If Red would join them, his actions would definitely brought to the public. So Red was kidnapped and brought to the Mt Silver, in hope he would be unable to return to the civilization. But it was all in vain, TR was defeated again, and Gold found Red on Mt Silver. Well, there are some facts combined with a lot of Interpretation, but as a whole it should be a nice theory. 😁

I think the guy in the beginning of the gym, is probably just some representative of sort of a "receptionist" character. Makes sense that such an important facility in their world, would probably have a dude in front helping the 10 year olds not get lost. As for Red's father, it's probably the guy in the front of Celedon gym creeping all the girls :b

Proto, you answered your own question. If Pokemon is meant to represent Japanese life then it's only logical to assume that Red's father is merely working at the times when Red is home. Stereotypical Japanese father is shown as working so much that he's almost never home and sometimes even having a separate apartment by his work so that if he puts in late hours, he can sleep without disturbing his family. Take another thing into consideration, Creatures, the other company besides Game Freak that makes the Pokemon games was a revival of APE inc, the people who made Mother 1 and 2. In those games, the father is also noticeably absent. So, likely Red's father isn't a Pokemon trainer or at least not a serious one (considering that everybody needs at least ONE pokemon to protect against wild encounters). Instead, he's just your average guy who apparently enjoys sports and/or sports related video games.

I think Giovanni could be his father, as for the recruiting him, he may not want him to get into that kind of life because a lot of TR members probably end up in jail or "losers" like Jessie and James, and he doesn't want that for his son, he wants the very best for him and he knows becoming a Pokemon Master is something his son wanted, or something Giovanni wanted but could never do himself so he hoped his son could do it, maybe even sent the "motivation guy" himself to give Red advice on each gym leader, aside from Giovanni himself, and the "motivation guy" could report back to Giovanni with how Red was doing and if he beat the gym.

Rexacuse's Viewing Channel thats not true. in first gen you have to help a spirit of a dead Marowak move on to the spirit world even in Johto your told pokemon died in a fire in the burned tower and were resurrected by Ho-Oh as the 3 Legendary beast and on top of that there are multiple places through out multiple different games that are graveyards for pokemon mt. Pyre in Hoenn, the pokemon tower in Kanto, the lost tower in Sinnoh, the celestial tower in Unova ect. and in the manga when red enters the pokemon tower he is surrounded by corpses of pokemon being controlled by Koga. the only place in the pokemon universe where pokemon dont die is in the anime witch is only because its primarily for kids. so yes pokemon do die.

I feel like Red's dad has already beat the league, and went on a journey to find new Pokemon into another region, probably from the advice or request from professor Oak. There are reasons for considering Giovanni as reds dad 1) He didn't killed red after defeating him in silpho co 2) used only 2 pokemons on gym went soft on red 3) why will a criminal shut all his activities just to provide a badge to kid and surrender him self? Well if Red knew who his father was then his father couldn't have been any of the options you mentioned in the video. Surely if it was Oak or Giovanni or the guy in the Gyms they would have recognised him and the conversations they had would have played out differently. The mere fact that he knew his father well enough to know he liked sports implies that his father would surely have recognised him, and he would have recognised his father. And none of them are particularly disguised so how could he not recognise them? Instead the guy at the gym talks like a stranger and never calls you his son or even by name, Oak never calls you his son, Giovanni never calls you his son or calls you by name (or at least I don't remember him using your name).

The real question should be where are Blue's parent's since he lives with his sister, and his grandfather is nearby. While what most of your points hold well there is one point that you have overlooked regarding there being no war in the Pokemon world. If you recall Lt. Surge clearly states that he was in a war and that his electric Pokemon saved his life during it. Based on his design sporting military attire the war was very recently, which also ties into Reds father. The war most likely took place in the past 6 years due to the fact Red knows about his dad and his likes. Most kids start having memories near 4 years of age which fits into when this war would have happened. As for who the war was between it was said that there was a war that Unova and that they had won it. During the war Lt. Surge decided to stay behind and help Kanto regrow and train the people to fight and defend themselves. Reds father probably would have died in this war, and his mother not wanting to worry her son told him his father is out exploring or something of the sorts. Reds mother lets him leave the house knowing that Kanto is now under the protection of Unova while the country rebuilds and that he will be safe. I think that completely opens the possibility of Reds father being dead and supports itself using what we know of the Pokemon world. tl;dr there was a war and Reds father probably died in it.

Here's my theory that Red's missing Father is infact the person the first generation is also missing, Kanto's Champion. The Champion that Blue defeated. Yup Blue stole your touching reunion with your father. But why did your father not go back home? Well look at ORAS even though in that game you become the champion it still seems that Steven is still acting champion and even asks Wallace to take over the role of Champion. So I suggest that Blue beat your father so bad that out of embarrassment he was forced to give the role of champion to blue and left in so much shame he could never go back home.

I always just assumed that guy was a trainer that became Red's fan. And if Red knew his father enough to make that sports magazine statement, he would have known that person was his father. Actually, now that I think about it, wasn't that guy in Prof Oak's lab when Red and Blue each get there Pokemon, but not afterwards? I'm pretty sure he was. In that case, couldn't he simply be Oak's assistant going along to support both Red and Blue at each of the gyms? Pokemon Live! expands on the idea of Giovanni being Red/Ash's father. His mother was once into the "bad boys", and Giovanni was the leader of a gang that evntually became Team Rocket. When she fell pregnant, she wanted a better life for her son, so she left Giovanni, hence why he never knew. This seems kind of contradictory both from Red's sports magazine statement and Ash's flashbacks of his father since they would have recognized Giovanni as such.

paul trujillo actually gen 4 was the first one for me to play and it was the best. the background story of team galaktik was the only one being really thought through. in gen 1 and 2 team rocket just doesn´t make anything like following a plan. gen 3 was ways better and is the second in my personal ranking. gen 5 just was boring (i can´t really explain why; just feeling like this when playing it) and gen 6 brought something complitly new to the games. a new touch they needed.

Well actually Episode 3 of Pokemon Origins explains this question but not to sayy yes you see in this episode Red challenges Giovanni the last Gym Leader, Giovanni hated Red because he did break his plans but when he battled Red he had a feeling like never before it was looking very familiar to him and then as the battle goes on he start enjoying it more and more and when Red is on his last Pokemon that is Charizard then Giovanni says to him you are done to bad you did leave Charizard as the last pokemon but then Red says I won't lose to a trainer like you this pokemon is a proof of how far I come and then Giovanni says the way he moves the way he send he's last pokemon he reminds me of ...(plzzz say RED) OF ME damnnn :P and then Red beats him but he dosen't accept the badge then right away Giovanni after getting he's passion back for pokemon's he says that Team Rocket is disbanded and then Red accepts the badge and Giovanni says to him if you wish to complete the pokedex that will be hard but you have to folllow your path and become a pokemon league champion something like thatt and soo Red leaves and then Giovanni on his thoughts says you should follow the path that I couldn't.. then he says Im gonna create a new path for me and my pokemon that's it! So they in someway showed us the Giovanni is the Father but didn't make it true still did leave it without answer but it is 90% true that Giovanni may be Red's FATHER!!!

if i remember rightly if you press a near certain objects a text box saying "dad'll like this" appears which implies that red has interacted with his father long enough to know his name and preferences. red's father could be alive but work long hours at a business like the one that team rocket took over and held all the workers as hostages

Takeshi Shudo, the creator of the Pokémon anime, explained that "people who don't see their father grow with a journey". This is a great explanation to the question "why is Brendan/May the only playable character to have a father" and also a motivation to stop looking for Red's. That is a good theory, I think its wierd thinking of that dude hanging out in gyms being the dad, but it could make sense until gen 3, after all that same person appears still in each gym even though your dad is suppose to be Norman, I do agree it is unlikely Oak or Giovanni, after all Giovanni already has a child so unless he went with Red's Mom for a while and doesn't know his child that option is scratched off, Oak is too old and your rival would have to be your cousin, and Oak doesn't refer to character as son while he does refer to rival as his grandson, plus you are the same age as your rival

the thing is, it says dad would like this, so his father couldnt have walked out on him when he was a baby(sure his mom could have told about his father, but id think she wouldn't like that too much considering he left when red was 6 months old or so) so he may have knew his dad, and left to go to another region for a champion or gym leader, such as chuck or pryce.

You know, in the Pokémon Adventures manga I could maybe see Giovanni being Red's father based off of their interactions, even including Giovanni trying to recruit Red, though its also possible that was simply Giovanni wanting a powerful lieutenant like he said.

Maybe Red's father put together a small world and hired people to have some type of role in Red's life.The world he lives in is only a portion of the world he has yet to know.Basically,Red's father is a major figure in this 'bigger world' and was able to put up an act for Red,thus being some training course or something 0.0

I like this, his father likes sport/sports games. His father may know about Poke'Mon, but say doesn't/isn't an animal person. So he can give tips, but can't do it himself.

This would mean that there would be pokemon battles but it would be more focused on the plot.

I agree that his dad couldn't have been killed by a pokemon, because, as you said, his mother wouldn't allow him to go on a journey. For example, there is a TV Show where a girl's mother was a singer and died while going to sing somewhere in the country, so his father never allowed the girl to sing, so she wouldn't end up having to go to sing somewhere and...well...die too.

I just came up with a theory. The talk about Red's father being killed in a war not being possible because there was no recent wars involving Japan made me think of something: Your previous theory on how time moves slower in the Pokemon world, and the fact that WWII would have been only ~50 years before the game's timeline. So my question is this: is it possible that you could revisit the slowed time theory and rethink the possibility that time is NOT as slow as you had previously said? Perhaps traveling around 1/5 of its normal speed? And is it possible that Red's father was killed in the Pokemon equivalent of WWII?

My theory on this theory. Reds Father leaves when Red was very young or before Red was born to become the Pokemon champion and never comes back. Professor Oak leaves to go and become the champion in order to try and bring Red's father back. Oak becomes the champion and Red's Father is kinda shocked back into reality by this and realizes he left his family behind but cannot bear to face them after what he did.He comes back later to try to right his wrongs but finds out his son is no longer there and went on his own journey, so Red's Father decides to give him guidance at all of the gyms as a way of atoning for his sins. I actually do have evidence. Professor oak was intended to be the champion of the Pokemon League before it is changed to Blue and you can still even battle oak via a glitch. SO could it be possible that oak was the champion? proto already covered the fact that he was. Thoughts?

Personally I think the easiest answer is the correct one: Red's father is just a regular old Pokemon trainer. He inspired Red to become a trainer himself, and the reason he is never home is because he is always roaming and collecting Pokemon and battling - just like every other trainer you encounter. I think the quote "Dad'll like this" supports this too, because if he knows his dad that well, surely he would recognize him and exchange some dialogue with him; however, we never get that, so I don't think he was ever actually shown in the games. I think Red's dad, and every player's dad, is just a regular trainer off being a trainer. I don't like the Giovanni theory simply because he is already Silver's father. I know, they could be brothers, but I don't think Game Freak would have bothered to add that in with Silver if they already had Giovanni fathering Red.

No Oak couldn't be Red's father. Besides the age difference, it is clearly stated that he is Blue's grandfather and Blue and Red aren't related to each other at all. I'm pretty sure they'd know if they were. Your 'Guy at the Gym' theory makes a hell of a lot of sense though.

I guess this can explain why a 10 year old can advance through his adventure quickly. Its easy for us to figure stuff out because its easy to travel in a video game and we can memorize pokemon easily because we can see their name each time we see it. To most trainers pokemon are just creatures until someone tells them their names.
