This is such a great video. I love watching speedruns with commentary, and I only really knew the Red run before watching this, so having all the differences for Yellow explained helped me a lot. I'd love to see more videos like this.

@Gunnermaniac3 just curious but you dont' rename both the charmander/spearow/lapras to a 1 letter name. does the time that it would take to rename the pokemon outweigh the time saved for each time you have "_____" used strenght/fly/cut/surf?

Because these runs include so much rng, it promotes good improvisation. That actually makes it interesting, which surprised me watching this speedrun for the first time.

You'd have to have been playing since the dawn of time to get a "perfect" run. I found a Glitchless TAS on KZbin at 1 hour 31 minutes. That's probably damn close.

when you add up the luck the odds against it are staggering. Every hit a critical, never encountering wild pokemon that you didnt intend to catch, without ever using repel etc.

even critting on every attack where it saves time, and then not critting on every attack where it wouldnt to save text, the amount of very slight rng optimization that can happen is ridiculous

Can someone explain the badge boost thing from 1:32:50 in more detail? Why are they important again? Not totally sure I understood

A badge is supposed to boost one stat by 12.5%, but when a stat changes during fight all badge boosts for other stats are applied again, so instead of having Attack*1.125 you end up with Attack*1.125*1.125, and it can stack over and over Thanks to this bug you can get faster than a pokemon, or oneshot him, when you normally couldnt so its really important to not level up mid fight (leveling up removes the bug) bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/List_of_glitches_in_Generation_I#Stat_modification_errors

There are certain cutscenes in Yellow where Pikachu will run around and it takes a couple seconds. If you deposit Pikachu, those don't happen.

Gen1 miss doesn't violate the promised 100% accuracy, 1/256 is 99.6%, which is greater than 99.5% accuracy and thus rounds up to 100%
