That bike text skip - game assumes you to buy a bike and glitches when you don’t. Pokémon RB is held together with duct tape and wishful thinking.

You just have an addendum that they were previous records using the old rules. A record is just history once it's beat, so whether it was a record on an old rule list or the new one doesn't matter if there are multiple new runs that beat it on either rule set. Your Old run may be delegitimized under the old rules, but that doesn't mean you aren't part of the history if it was a legitimate run under the old rules, it just means you have to Stay as a historical run, or get gud and compete for a new world record under the new rules, or beat your old record.

Also emulators may have _very_ slight mechanical differences that could give _slight_ advantages, even if it would be nigh impossible to spot. Forcing everyone to use the same thing in theory prevents that. If this problem actually exists or if the solution fixes anything is another topic that i myself am not familiar with.

When Gen I was actually out, most kids only knew about the MssingNo glitch. People would no doubt occasionally come across other glitches, but as a kid: 1) you wouldn't understand what happened (in some cases you might not even realise it was a glitch), 2) you wouldn't be able to replicate the glitch and 3) you wouldn't spread word about the glitch out further than your close friends because a lot of people didn't have Internet back then (and for the people who did, it was painfully slow). The best you could do is keep buying the gaming magazines in shops and hope one of the readers had discovered a glitch, written into the magazine writers about it, and the magazine decided to write about it. Basically, I'm trying to say, yes the games are full of glitches, but in practice as a child the experience was relatively glitchless. The games did, for the most part, play as intended. I know now that the games are quite ridiculous, but at the time it didn't seem like that. The thing that confused me most was that I understood the type chart even when I was very young, and seeing things like Razor Leaf be "Not very effective" on Gyarados, or Leech Life be "Super effective" on Zubat was confusing. But I could tell from the actual damage they did that the game was calculating the damage correctly, it was just the text that was wrong. And I got Pokemon Stadium a few years later and in that game they displayed the correct text. A gltich I did come across by accident was in Viridian Forest I died from poison the same time as the last Bug Catcher in Viridian Forest saw me. I fainted but the exclamation mark still appeared above his head. Then when I went back into Viridian Forest a wild Slowbro appeared immediately. I was like WTF at the time, and now i understand what happened, but at the time I had no idea what happened, why it happened, and how to do it again.

Random is actually not very random in pretty much any application. Like, numbers in number generators have been shown to have bias as well and that numbers can get chosen inconsistently. RNG manip' abuses an underlying component of the game that's tracking your inputs which then effects how the game decides to use its RNG component.

In Red/Blue, there really aren't that many early-game Pokemon that learn Cut. And, crucially, the only other one you don't have to go out of your way for you could get by the time you need it is Paras, which has a very low encounter rate. (15% in the deepest part of Mt. Moon, less elsewhere.) Yeah, you could get an Oddish/Bellsprout on Route 24, but it's further out of your way than Sandshrew and is also a 25% encounter like the quicker-to-access Sandshrew. I guess you could just reset your run if you don't catch a Paras in Mt. Moon, but I'd hazard a guess that that would get very tedious very quickly.
@Stretchable0

The problem is that the "instant text" phenomenon sets the memory location to the exact spot it is intended to set it to. Yes, it's not a normal part of operation...but it is a thing the game explicitly intends for. The player just never triggers it to be reset to how it normally is. Let's put it like this: if the "Instant Text" phenomenon is a glitch then so is the "RNG manipulation" phenomenon because both are the game doing what it is supposed to be doing, placing memory where it should be placed according to how the game is designed and created.

@@doctorzeek2370 No I've never heard of the guy, but iirc it was displayed with an é so the logic would follow as before.

I love SummoningSalt videos. He works way harder then he should to make this videos awesome. You can feel the love pouring out of the screen.

Well, this shocked me. I always used to do the bicycle text speed glitch myself as a kid. Shared it with friends. Got some major playground cred for it. If only I'd known I could be helping impressively obsessive people on the internet by sharing it.

I have to admit, I was hoping to see the glitch runs where you can walk through walls and rewrite memory. This should be renamed Pokemon Red/Blue glitchless.

That is up to the community of runners. If they allow, they do, if not, not.
