You just have an addendum that they were previous records using the old rules. A record is just history once it's beat, so whether it was a record on an old rule list or the new one doesn't matter if there are multiple new runs that beat it on either rule set. Your Old run may be delegitimized under the old rules, but that doesn't mean you aren't part of the history if it was a legitimate run under the old rules, it just means you have to Stay as a historical run, or get gud and compete for a new world record under the new rules, or beat your old record.

When Gen I was actually out, most kids only knew about the MssingNo glitch. People would no doubt occasionally come across other glitches, but as a kid: 1) you wouldn't understand what happened (in some cases you might not even realise it was a glitch), 2) you wouldn't be able to replicate the glitch and 3) you wouldn't spread word about the glitch out further than your close friends because a lot of people didn't have Internet back then (and for the people who did, it was painfully slow). The best you could do is keep buying the gaming magazines in shops and hope one of the readers had discovered a glitch, written into the magazine writers about it, and the magazine decided to write about it. Basically, I'm trying to say, yes the games are full of glitches, but in practice as a child the experience was relatively glitchless. The games did, for the most part, play as intended. I know now that the games are quite ridiculous, but at the time it didn't seem like that. The thing that confused me most was that I understood the type chart even when I was very young, and seeing things like Razor Leaf be "Not very effective" on Gyarados, or Leech Life be "Super effective" on Zubat was confusing. But I could tell from the actual damage they did that the game was calculating the damage correctly, it was just the text that was wrong. And I got Pokemon Stadium a few years later and in that game they displayed the correct text. A gltich I did come across by accident was in Viridian Forest I died from poison the same time as the last Bug Catcher in Viridian Forest saw me. I fainted but the exclamation mark still appeared above his head. Then when I went back into Viridian Forest a wild Slowbro appeared immediately. I was like WTF at the time, and now i understand what happened, but at the time I had no idea what happened, why it happened, and how to do it again.

i want to see a TASbot no major glitches run where they just manipulate every little piece of RNG to go their way. Constant critical hits, every item is a rare candy or better, every bad random encounter is skipped etc. I wonder how far the RNG manipulation can go with a TAS
@guymcaulay89966 жыл бұрын
There are no random item drops in Pokemon, no.
@ShadowFox1786 жыл бұрын
Random is actually not very random in pretty much any application. Like, numbers in number generators have been shown to have bias as well and that numbers can get chosen inconsistently. RNG manip' abuses an underlying component of the game that's tracking your inputs which then effects how the game decides to use its RNG component.
@ryjelsum6 жыл бұрын
There is not one for gen 1 but there is one for gens 2-4 on tasvideos, here is the gold/silver one which features a frankly astonishingly massive amount of RNG manip, from quick claw triggers to high power magnitudes to critical hits: tasvideos.org/564M.html

i dont understand why sandshrew is necessary when there's plenty of others who can learn cut
@RiverShock6 жыл бұрын
In Red/Blue, there really aren't that many early-game Pokemon that learn Cut. And, crucially, the only other one you don't have to go out of your way for you could get by the time you need it is Paras, which has a very low encounter rate. (15% in the deepest part of Mt. Moon, less elsewhere.) Yeah, you could get an Oddish/Bellsprout on Route 24, but it's further out of your way than Sandshrew and is also a 25% encounter like the quicker-to-access Sandshrew. I guess you could just reset your run if you don't catch a Paras in Mt. Moon, but I'd hazard a guess that that would get very tedious very quickly.
@Stretchable06 жыл бұрын
hmm i guess that kinda makes sense. but considering everyone seems to do red, i can't see it being a better alternative! I'd be willing to hazard a guess that the top runs more than likely have paras caught?

It's weird that anybody thought that the instant text glitch wasn't a glitch. If you want to be reductive, all that happens in _any_ glitch is that the game sets some memory locations in a way that wasn't intended.
@shockthetoast6 жыл бұрын
Technically, the game set the memory location exactly as intended. It just failed to set it back. :)
@onijester566 жыл бұрын
The problem is that the "instant text" phenomenon sets the memory location to the exact spot it is intended to set it to. Yes, it's not a normal part of operation...but it is a thing the game explicitly intends for. The player just never triggers it to be reset to how it normally is. Let's put it like this: if the "Instant Text" phenomenon is a glitch then so is the "RNG manipulation" phenomenon because both are the game doing what it is supposed to be doing, placing memory where it should be placed according to how the game is designed and created.
@Lolp8216 жыл бұрын
The only time it wasn't a glitch was the time it was accidentally discovered
@jancojicanoder6 жыл бұрын
@@onijester56 indeed, in the same way, if "instant text" is a glitch, red bar is a glitch too, because it's the game that override the sound effects
@jamesdinius77696 жыл бұрын
Then what about red bar? Same deal, one thing in a game overrides normal function. Or are you suggesting that they intended to suspend animations at low hp? Seems unlikely.
