A. It's "Puh-puh puh-poker face." No amount of entendre or double meaning will convince me otherwise. B. I hated this song when it was new, due to its sound alone. But over time, I've grown to appreciate it as a game changer for Electronic Pop, as well as a heavy dose of nostalgia for that Summer.

yeah I love the Born This Way album, but the cover's trash. and yeah, a some people who listen to rock & metal think those are the only good genres, & crap on pop music for because "it just sucks". and that's not true at all. rock & metal are great genres I won't deny that (because I listen to those genres) but I also listen to other genres (pop included) and I appreciate those genres so much. pop's not bad, you're probably just listening to wrong kind of pop music that makes you think that all pop is garbage. being open-minded isn't bad, it's a good thing

This video was pretty fascinating and mind-opening in a way. When Poker Face dropped, I was in middle school and can clearly remember the 'Lady Gaga is a man' allegation as it was a big talking point at my school. At the same time, homophobia was pretty normalised. I was called gay because I wasn't the most extrovert person way before actually knowing what I'm attracted to. Then you talking about how big of issue it was for artist back then to out themselves. That it could mean career suicide. All this really made me realise how fundamentally much changed over the past ten years. So much that it actually feels unreal that this homophobic behaviour and bigotry was so prevalent in a time you actually lived in yourself. Progress is slow and this video really was a eye-opener of how much much actually changed.

The odd thing about my case is that I actually knew that line, but at the same time... I didn't. I use to always Jam to this album and her being bisexual wasn't a big surprise to me. But I do understand why most artists do go with the "I am straight" line. The only artist I can think of that was out and proud for his whole career and wasn't derailed for it is Adam Lambert. He almost did derail his career when he kissed a man on stage but after a few months it was like it never happened. Today he has out out 4 albums that have done well (one being a #1 album) and is singing for Queen. So he is a great example on how more people for the LGBT community can come out swinging with out being derailed

I did always wonder if I was hearing what I was hearing in the chorus. It sort of reminded me of (and I apologise for comparing it with this) when I would listen to Pretty Vacant in my younger years and think is "is he saying what I think there?" But I think Gaga hid it more cleverly, Pistols may as well have spelt out their obscenity.

Damn, Lady Gaga was synonymous with Pop for me in the early 2010s. At that time, I sorta found her annoying but I look back and really miss those times when radio hits were just bright, fun party anthems and not minimalistic wannabe-indie pop songs about how sad everything is.

Dunno if Poker face is my favorite from her though. I much preferred Just Dance, and I remember a lot of stuff on Art Pop was so under-appreciated. If it wasn’t for the unfortunate R. Kelly feature on “Do what you want”, it would probably be my favorite from her.
@josephhinz6256
@josephhinz6256 3 жыл бұрын
Well, dance pop will forever be a thing, in fact the biggest pop album this year was flashy retro-disco (Unless After Hours counts, in which case Future Nostalgia isn’t but it was still huge). Even then, Ava Max is bringing back huge Gaga influence and Gaga herself got a #1 hit this year off her album that was a blatant callback to ARTPOP era herself. Also, radio hits all being minimalist wannabe indie pop is honestly a bit far off. Bedroom pop besides Billie Eilish and a few breakthroughs for someone like Clairo has been limited to the indie scene and critical buzz but nothing commercial. In fact, just this year we had a “sad indie pop” song be huge and it was called Supalonely, which was disco and it’s great. On top of that, beabadoobee was one of those folky depressing Gen Z indie artists, but then on her album this year went full 2000s pop rock. My long winded comment aside, pop is in a nice state where both can coexist, and there’s huge quality in both.

Well I certainly got TWO eye openers on this song thanks to you (no need to look into anything mean in to that, it's a compliment). As for Ms. Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta (Gaga's real name) I didn't really catch her coming out as bi in late 2000's; heck I was only 14 at the time when her debut came out and was either ending 7th year or starting my 8th at that time. But when I got the chance to see the music video for this song, she got me into that world of latex wearing; very sexy on her by the way. As for what I think of her to this day as a man coming up on his 27th birthday; a few things to note. 1, a hell of a singer that I would gladly do bass guitar work if asked; 2, love playing along with some of her songs on bass to see what sounds I could create; 3, I hope her dogs and the sitter are doing well. PS, screw Dr. Luke and anyone else that enables his lifestyle.
