My favorite part of the Casino Royale scene is that after Bond wins, he tips the dealer a $500,000 plaque, and the dealer's reaction is a muted, expressionless "thank you sir" instead of "HOLY FUCK HALF A MILLION DOLLARS YOU'VE CHANGED MY LIFE"

The scene in the movie "In Time" which is actually a pretty decent movie, doesn't make sense on several levels. Speaking about casino royale scene, instead of analysing players' decisions, I would better mention that IRL players rarely shove all the chips, they simply dont have to. And in case of monsieur le Chiffre, he could just announce the call. Showdown - then dealer does the maths with chips and plaques. What if there is a choppot? They would waste tons of time rewatching the video trying to figure out which amount of money was put into pot by each player. Also, since Bond was the last one to raise he should've shown his hand first, not the last. And when all players show their hands dealer doesnt take their cards and make a combination with community cards.

KGB doesn't pay Mike because he has "honor". He pays him because a room full of his high stakes regulars are railbirding the game. If he didn't pay Mike, NO ONE would ever play at KGB's club again.

Teddy KGB didn't have anything to do with honor. If he doesn't pay then his whole underground poker operation would get a reputation for not paying when they lose and would fail overnight.

Interesting breakdown! A pro poker player's perspective reveals how movie scenes often dramatize hands and bluffing for effect. Real poker relies more on strategy, reading opponents, and managing risks than on flashy moves

That Casino Royale hand happened to me in 4/8 limit. I flopped the straight flush, never raised once, pot capped every round. Beat out two flushes and a boat.

During the final hand in Rounders, Mike never says "call" when Teddy goes all-in. He just sort of pushes his chips slightly forward and turns over his hand, declaring he has the straight. I don't think that would hold up in most cases, and his hand would be declared dead. Would it not?
@NeuroticNOOB
@NeuroticNOOB 4 ай бұрын
It depends on house rules if there is no betting line I guess. There are rules that consider a forward motion with chips a bet/call. If he goes over a betting line it is definitely a call though. You don't have to announce it verbally. Just flinging one chip into the pot would be fine too.

Also I don't think your hand is dead if you reveal it in this case. There is no rule against revealing your hand heads up before you make a call.
@augustgreig9420
@augustgreig9420 4 ай бұрын
Why would your hand be dead? And generally, you don't have to speak at all at the poker table, and since the bet put him all in, if he'd moved even one chip toward the pot and let it go, that would be considered a call. And people turn their hand over in situations like this all the time, and I mean before they even call, to try and get a read or a tell out of their opponent.

The details in most poker scenes are so bad. Even the rounders one werent great. The last one is so unrealistic - not allowed to muck in that situation, if he had the best hand then that would be collusion, and the dad is too naive lol It’s been a while but I remember Molly’s game had a cool scene where a guy gets drawn out on after flopping Qs full of 7s

bond flops the straight flush draw. good but every half decent poker player would not see the turn card because what? you have 1 out. if everybody checks, well then you see the turn but otherwise you have no betting or calling equity.
