I was in Poland last week. As an Australian of part Polish descent I must ask whether the EU is an economic union, or a German and French led entity which overrides national sovereignty of member countries? Remember that it was Merkel who without consulting the rest of the EU membership unilaterally opened the floodgates for the massive influx of refugees/economic migrants from Syria, the Middle East generally and Africa.

EU is not just an economic union, it's meant as a political union as well and anyone that knows the history knows that was inevitable- to get countries so intertwined that warring between each other becomes almost impossible. You blame the EU for what some naive well wisher did by letting in a million migrants. Why do you not blame anyone else for wreaking havoc in the countries from which they came?

N. W. Flitcraft People, please don't forget that Poland is being ruled by socialists, conservative sure , but taxes are high, milions of PLN are being given away. Government resorts to making new taxes, killing so-called tax mafia (they wouldn't have to do that if taxes were lower). Also illegal immigrants are not trying to enter Poland, not only because government refuses to let them in, it is also because they are not getting enough social benefits. It is because Poland is not rich enough to give as many money like Germany. But government is still giving out all money it can.
@TheDisinterestedSpectator6 жыл бұрын
My remark is on Poland _qua_ Poland (i.e. as a state), in the geopolitical role it is playing; I make no remark on their internal politics. But, as for that, it doesn't much matter, in the end, what form a State's government takes, as the phenomenon of the modern State is an intrinsically totalitarian entity anyway. True liberty is a thing of the past, unfortunately.

Sauron Merciful That's a load of crap . Polish current government was democratically elected . 43% ,,and growing from survey to survey, of Poles are behind this government and total opposition, as it is called by some and german collaborators by others , is quickly disappearing. What Poles are against is that PO, main opposition party , was selling heavy industries to Germany for pennies. Sometimes intentionally bringing it to ruin. PO was bringing Poland to ruins to create a state of paupers that will be used by Germany as a labour force only. PO let thieves, who syphoned billions of PLZ out of country, to go free by manipulating judicial system. There are affairs being discovered now showing how previous government was involved in bringing its own citizens to the knees. Who was their master shows prime example where Donald Tusk ,who said he will never go to serve in EU and will stay in Poland no matter what, as soon as knew his party will lose elections abandoned his promise went to Merkel and got well paid job in Brussels. Yes this government is controversial if not hated by those who are afraid that it will bring them to justice for their malversations ,corruption and simple treason.

@andrzejcyronek29855 жыл бұрын
1) Poland is a democratic country with democratically elected government and as such have the right to make its own decisions and rules about every aspect of their lives whether somebody likes it or not. 2) Polish people have the right to preserve their way of life, their culture, their customs, traditions and their religion - this is closely connected to the immigration policy. Poland should accept only small number of immigrants who fit these conditions in terms of similar values, culture and religion. A small number of immigrants from other cultures/religions can be accepted, provided that the rate of immigration is small enough, so they can be easily integrated and not create separate groups living in their own ghettos creating their own rules. Also security issues must be satisfied - every immigrant must be submitted to thorough security investigation. 3) Meddling in Polish affairs by foreign individuals and capital (by financing special interests groups and demonstrations/protests) must be considered against state interest, made illegal and expelled from Poland. 4) The relations with Polish neighbours should be based on reason, preservation of peace, economic trade, political reality and common long term security. Poland always will be between Russia and Germany and aggravating either one of them without valid reason or significant Polish interest is simply stupid. Poland should stand by its allies, but only when they stand with Poland - not using Poland to play their own games. Poland should look for allies between countries of similar strength and interests in the vicinity and not with big, much stronger countries, which will give us away as history has shown time and time again. Poland must build up their own strong, defensive army (as soon as possible) - it is imperative - not flex someone else's muscle. 5) Polish government has an obligation to defend Poland and Polish Citizens from attempts of harm (physical or financial). Last attacks on Polish ambassador in Israel and Polish dignitary in Brussel is not acceptable and Polish response was not adequate! First of all Polish government has an obligation to defend Polish Honour and historical truth - compromising this is simply not acceptable!!! Polish government MUST take official position on Just Act s.447 - strong statement refusing any payments!!!

Poland isn't challenging the EU Identiy, the EU and Germany are. Poland wish to keep a semblance of European and Polish identity, the EU and Germany have actively and on a massive scale opened border to immigrants, not refugees, that will and have forever change the face of Europe. Get your facts right, Poland are not challenging; they are asking the EU to think through and start debate with member states before the EU and Germany on their own decide to flood Europe with millions of immigrants.
@stanskal17666 жыл бұрын
Point is, that Poland was quiet country for last 20 years. Now there was kind of awakening in Poland - mainly because of 2 reasons - muslim immigration to UE and war at Ukraine. Poles suddenly found, that they are very happy in country without islam and found, that our army is weak and UE is even weaker and useless to do anything. So Poles elected right winged PiS party, which do quite a good job (tax system is improved, social shields are secured, unemployment is lower and lower, army is getting stronger). Poles started to say "hey UE, you are doing wrong, we don't want to make same mistakes as you". UE started to say "no Poland - you will act as we wish". So Poland said "no way, no muslims in Poland, no terrorism in Poland, no multiculture in Poland, Poland strong, let's prepare to defend against Russia". So UE said "Poland you are crazy". ;) That is the simplest description of this problem.
@darek44886 жыл бұрын
I am sorry, but the current ruling party PiS is not right wing economically. They are socialist to the very core. In some economic cases they even appear to have communist resemblance. They are only right wing as far as foreign affairs, protecting borders and military, protecting the Polish history, the family model and religion. It would be all well and good, but we know that socialism rides as long as the other people's money last. In the end it always leads to bankruptcy, oppressive police forces and terrible standards of living.

Its quite simple to understand all this situation. Germans along with other Western Europe countries needed Eastern Europe for quality workers but not for theirs heavy industry which could become competitive. For last 20 years puppet governments from Poland and other eastern states been serving Germans and others by destroying all industries in Poland and providing new market for selling inferior quality products from West. Basically Poland was drained. In exchange Poland was given European funds but every single euro sent to Poland was going back with profit to Germans. Long story short current government trying to stop and that’s what causing all those issues. The bottom line is more Germans insist on their case more Poles will be against it. End of. It’s time for Poland now even for cost of Polexit
@05KAR6 жыл бұрын
Products from Germany were inferior to those made by the ineffective, central planned communist "economy"? You must be kidding... The old communist industry of Poland and every other post communist country was doomed to collapse exactly because it could not be competitive. There was no other way, except maybe sustaining that with budget subsidies and controlling with corrupted oligarchs like in Ukraine or Russia. Nothing else but reality of market competition destroyed that industry and on place of that there was made a new, service based and effective, private owned economy, it was initially hard but overall extremely positive for Poland which cumulative GDP growth was second only to Slovakia. The current Govt. is stopping nothing, fortunately it's not as socialist as the opposition claims it to be, there's no way back from free market. Get back to reality, up to 80% Poles supports EU membership.
@baszar246 жыл бұрын
Yup, good summary. Oskar Wouldn't say 80% but the majority yea but it's conditional and the EU is braking those conditions, so just give it time. The destruction of the foundations of the economy after comunism consisted of leveling whole industries that could have grown if there was a period of protectivism instaled and then go on let the market pick the winners. Now we can speculate if this radical move was the best one or not. I would argue that we made not the best move (probobly not the worst also). And of corse there is a way away from the free market. The first moment the stronger party decides the free market doesn't benefit it the free market is gone.
@view1st6 жыл бұрын
iXmovie I'd also say the same thing happened to the whole of eastern Europe more broadly. Eastern Europe has been turned into western Europe's cheap resource base and dumping ground. Even Greece and Cyprus are not safe from German and EU pillage.
@05KAR6 жыл бұрын
Baszar - What conditions are you talking about? Listen... the communist "economy" was not sustainable, that's the reason USSR collapsed and that's why each and every post communist country suffered terrible hyperinflation, bankruptcy, collapse of inefficient industry and unemployment. The heavy industry especially since it was necessary mostly for the military and cold war arms race which was over. There was no way it could grow or even sustain itself, it had to collapse and the whole economy had to be remodeled on a base of free market and actual reason instead of ideology and fake currency. Of course there always can be better, of course some crooks made fortunes on this process but to say that this could go on is just irrational, foolish... The same it has to be said that Poland quadrupled its GDP from the level of Ukraine, it reduced corruption greatly, together with the rest of crime, unemployment is non existing and overall the situation of millions of people improved. And yes, sure there's always a way to destroy economy but not without a fight.

The thing is that in Poland we value the voice of the people and democracy because history took that privelage from us too many times and for too long. We finally get a chance to rebuild our nation, shape it perfectly and in addition avoid the mistakes others made. Our geopolitical position is very promising for long term development. The thing with the EU is that they have their freedoms for so long that they are forgetting how important it is while some of their most crucial politicians know how to exploit that.

The UE can cut off the money going to Poland? What money? Poland has been a net contributor to the EU since 2016. Besides, the EU money supplied for infrastructure went into building infrastructure connecting Poland to the German logistical network (east-west roads), whereas north-south road, river and rail development (connections important for development of Poland and other countries between Germany and Russia) received almost nothing. Regional energy independence initiatives, like the gas pipeline that would connect the Polish, Croatian and Romanian coasts, which would make the region more energy independent, were aggressively opposed by the old EU (because that would infringe upon German-Russian interests). Not to mention the astounding riches the old EU (Germany in particular, but also France, Netherlands etc.) made on Polish immigration, the overtake and destruction of potential competitors in the early 90s (everything from electronics, telecommunications, heavy machinery, to maritime, arms and food industries were aggressively overtaken and either converted into low value-added factories or completely shut down. And then Poland was flooded with cheap German exports. Same with media (90% foreign ownership, mostly German) and banks (until very recently over 50% foreign ownership). Stories of other new EU countries are similar in that respect. It's simply astounding that Poland and some other states in the region are getting "disillusioned" only now...

Exactly the same happened here, in Hungary. We had 12 sugar factories, now we have none. They flooded the market with low value food, and than they PAID for the bankrupted farmers to cut down the fruit trees, and destroy thier farmland. The openly communicated goal was and is to create specialised regions of EU, contibuting to the whole, but incapable to finction alone. When they destroyed the industry, the reasoning was always the same: its not profitable. Funny enough, but most of the factories suddenly become profitable again after a german, a french or an american company took it.

Can anyone answer me this , why do Poland and Hungary appear to be the only ones actually opposing forced immigration ? ( i know there are others ) but for the most point we don't hear to much about that ( i myself am very pleased that they take such a stance when plenty of other EU states just roll over like dogs ) i am from UK ( Scotland ). PS: i should add i do already get the point of national self determinism which i agree with 100% but i feel there's something else here which i hope someone may cast a light on.

They are the last of practising Christians in Europe and they don't want to be islamized. Also they still remember to be under soviet rule and don't want Germans rule them again.
@charonboat63946 жыл бұрын
Peter the Scott Better question would be why the rest of Europe doesn't oppose illegal immigration. Let's see from common sense perspective: 1 . Immigration got started illegally by Merkel as is evidenced by recent Bundestag findings and anyone else should know while back . 2. These people don't want to work so are burden to any economy much less those countries that are chasing developed ones (although Poland recently was officially admitted into exclusive club of developed countries) 3. Immigrants want to impose their culture and religion onto the host country. 4. Islam is very aggressive religion 5. Straight thinking person don't want to be blown up,have his family members beaten and raped. 6. Hungary ,Poland Czech Republic and Slovakia went through communism and can smell it under any disguise and they reject it as un-human. Other countries won't learn it soon enough. Some of other EU countries are weak and too much afraid of Germany and EU commision rhetorics. I hope it is clearer now for you.

Peter Shanks Shortly... Poland is the most cristian country in europe, and they have no love for the bloody warcult disguised as a religion. Hungary spent 600 years of its history fighting islan agression, and preventing them to conquer europe. 20 years of brainwashing simply not enough to erase it all. We both spent 50 years in one totalitarian "union", so we can see this new one to be what it really is. Also, is we want to waste a hufe amount of money on underdevelopped, poor, culturally incopatible people we already have our gypsies, needless to import more of the kind.

The rebel countries use to be practice the Holy Crown Laws/ constitution (wich is allowed every citizens to resist and pull down the king if it's acting against the public interest) but allways kept their sovereignty. At the last 500 years this countries fight for freedom and been trouble with occupation troops. This nation's feel the smell of lies within 100 miles and, as allways, stick with their freedom wathever the threat is. You can't hear from other countries in the news because the other ones have no alternative political history, only the false left-right "democracy" or the older "kingdoms" system wich is more likely slavery based totalitarianism. For the NWO minions the real enemy is the alternative solution provide by the Holy Crown Doctrine. This is why no one even heard about it or no any europian country brave enough to teaching about in the school and this is why the eastern countries is under pressure more than any other resisting nation.

Peter Shanks. Slange (is this correct spelling?) mate. Well, also Czech Republic, Slovak Republic are opposing this flood. Well again, almost all countries do not want this shit but the difference is: In Poland and Hungary the governments are stating this clearly and loudly. In other countries the true voice of people is muffled by political correctness and cool multi cult ideology. Remember - liberal democrats are NO GOOD. BTW. Did you see that clip on YT : " voice operated elevator"? brilliant. Take care mate.

We, Poles have got very special experiance: The first polish state (The Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth) callapsed in the end of XVIII century because of the excess of democracy. It means in those times every legate to the parliament had the power to break a debate based on law "liberum veto" (free I do not let). Some of them, usuelly a minority used this law very often against a majority, and this paralyzed the Government of the State. In result paralyzed all the state. And after the long and painful agony the proud Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth had fall down. The today EU have the some problem: The minority can successfully paralyze the will of majority. You can see this for instance with refugees: During many months they had the illegal "extraterritorial" camp in Calais and the Government of France could not do anything with this huge problem because a small but very noisy groups of lefties radicals paralyzed any movements! Since the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth fell destroyed by an excess of democracy, it is very likely that the same will happen with the EU. And the second but very huge problem which EU have to face with is "the redefining of words". The words do not means now what they means in the past. For instance: Since centuries to the end of XX century the first duty of state was to defense the own citizens. Now, in comparsing ti a new interpretartion of word "state", any state in Europe should rather defense everyone around the world because of a "human rights", but not the own citizens! Even more! Now is comming thrue the "big dream" of Marxists, who dreamed of "death of state"! So, a modern state with it's prerogatives is going to be some kind of decoration with no instruments to do enything. May it be, Marxists have right, and after the death of state there will be a paradise. But if not? What will happens with citizens if "the death of state" will give the bloody chaos to them as the result of? Who will protect the citizens agains? So! UE is definitelly comming into the very uncertain ground of unconfirmed theories wchih can give the certain death of Europe. Why we should be agree with and follow Brussels? Can we take on us the responsibielies of those experiments for future generations of Poles and Europeans?

If the Poles refused to submit to the atheist in the Kremlin, what makes the EU think it will submit to the atheist who run Brussels? Poland is amongst what little that's left of Christianity in Europe. It has very few natural allies to choose from.
@krzysztofmazurkiewicz52706 жыл бұрын
Lets be blunt here. The EU project started good but now its going in a very bad way. First it was the European Coal and Steel Community, then the European Economic Community and finally the European Union (after member states signed the Treaty of Lisbon). Many think that this is a good thing, but some dont. All member states are chipping in to the EU Government that then redistributes this as grants or uses the money up to pay the salaries of EU officials. Unfortunately member states that pay for this have little vote on who does what. Its the EU Officials that do that. So we can cross out democracy here. The migrant crisis that is mentioned here was firstly caused by Angela Merkel when she said that Germany will welcome refugees and give them work. She thought she can get some cheap labor to her country. The problem is that person becomes a refugee in the first country that he enters where is no war (and they are supposedly refugees from countries where is war). So technically they are not refugees but migrants. So when they came to Germany that has quite high unemployment benefits. And the the newcomers do not feel like working. So now they have a lot of unemployed peoeple getting those benefits. Germany needs to pay them those benefit so it needs now more working people to have more money from taxes. And what Angela did is said that she wants more migrants to come! And since she knows that she cant fit in more into Germany she wants to place them in other EU member states. But we also need to take into consideration the EU policy about joining broken families. This means that each migrant can get the rest of his family to EU. Now instead of 1 there are 3-4 and more people on social well fare. As a Pole i can also add couple of idiotic rulings of EU that were created as a law of some sort. For instance a snail is treated by EU as a fish. Why? So the French can get subsidiaries for "fishing snails". Mmarmalade is defined as a product made of tropical fruits only. I remember from my childhood marmalade made form plums. Thats not a tropical fruit. EU created production quotas for the farming industry. A farmer cant produce more milk that a given level or he will pay a fine. So its better to pout the excess milk to drain! When Poland was entering EU we had over 180 sugar factories. Then mostly german companies bought most of them and closed. But did not sell. They kept them closed for about 5-6 years. Then a bill was passed that for each closed sugar factory the EU will pay amends. What did those companies do? They then took all the equipment from those factories to germany, sold the land and took those amends. I really doubt they did not know about this bill as it was 100% cost generating move. When there as crisis in Greece or Irleand EU did not let the banks go bankrupt. Instead they forced money into them to keep them afloat. It was later found out that it was due to the fact that many german comapnies were having some large sum of bonds/money/etc in them and would loose it. And the people of those countries were FORCED to pay for mistakes of others! Is that a way a "Democratic".institution behaves? And i could go on about more and more things that EU is doing to prove how broken it is, but i have more important things to do..So if someone is wondering why Hungary, Poland and other mentioned countries are opposing EU i guess the answer is quite simple. We see how bad the EU is currently in making decisions and we reject to accept them. Especially if they are evidently going to cause more bad than good.

2:04 - not because they don't fit into Polish society, its because all the rapes and terrorists attack in western Europe, another thing is that THEY DO NOT WANT TO BE IN POLAND. There was a case where we had few of them and they immediately tried to cross the border, when the officers asked them why they did that, they said that social welfare was too low in Poland and they prefer to suck the money from German government. Don't say that we are xenophobic because in last years we took over 2 millions of Ukrainian immigrants and gave them all the papers, we also have people going actually to Syria and helping people there with rebuilding hospitals, schools etc. We get punished because our only fault is that we think differently on one matter, western liberal media are constantly throwing banther at us and people that are reading them are swallowing it like seagulls. We do no harm to Europe and if you are so concerned about our democratic chosen government, check out what happens now in Spain, where police officers are attacking normal people and not allow people to vote - that's democratic.

Its very simple. USA needs strong Poland and doesnt need strong Germany. EU lead by Germany may decide to colaborate with Russia in a few years or at least avoid confrontation with Russia. USA's long term goal (50-60 100 years) is Russia's disintegration. Poland is traditionally rusophobic and is favored by USA to lead EU in the future.
@upsaratus6 жыл бұрын
Germany is already collaborating with Russia... Germans energy politics (the main income of Russian economy) is excluded of all sections and in clear contradiction to safety and needs of Central Europe. Nord Stream 1 was made despite Poland's protests and right now used by Russia as an excuse to penetrate Poland's territory with their armed forces under the pretext of security patrol... Germany is right now in an opposition to the interest of USA and Poland. that is the reason why Poland is buying more and more LPG from the USA instead of Russia. Germany, on the other hand, depends right now on Russian energy export and purchase none from the USA.
@crappymccrappen48976 жыл бұрын
Poland will protest anything that is in Russia's interest. Just like Israel will protest anything that is in Palestina's interest. Greece will protest anything that is in FYROM's/Macedonia's interest. etc. There is not good or bad here. There is just interest. If Russia can take advantage of somene she will. If USA can make a profit from someone else's misfortunes they will. If Poland can be used to weaken someone while in the process gaining something for themselves they will. The rest of the story is propaganda spread by the media controlled by the different sides.

By viewing this video, one comes to think that the EU is hostile to Poland while the US is the natural strong ally of Poland and a close friend, but poles should remember that the US has its own huge problems economically but also his authority in the world is not the same as it was a few decades ago. If the russians were to invade Poland once again, the US would be angry but they could and they would do little to protect it, the only ones with the presence and power on site able to protect poland and the baltic states are the countries of the EU, specially Germany France and the UK. Betting on the US, a country thousands of miles away and against the EU, their really natural ally could be too dangerous to the poles both militarily and economically
@tomasgrimm30866 жыл бұрын
yes but I think you are being too self-centered in your asessment, if you say Germany is historically Poland´s enemy, you could also make an argument for Germany as natural enemy of France but both countries together laid the foundation for what´s today, albeit all its problems, the biggest economic area in the world, the EU. In the time of WWI and II there was not just a plot from all european powers against Poland, there was a plot among all powers fighting against each other, otherwise Poland would not exist today as it is. I don´t think confrontation and isolation is the right way, on the contrary

Of the 18 countries which are members of the European Union, Poland is right there at the top of the list of those countries which are net beneficiaries - way ahead of number two on the list , ( meaning those that get out more money than they pay in to the EU ). If they were to leave the EU, that would leave a vast hole in their budget which would not be too easy to fill !

I am very positively surprised by Friedman's objectivity and overall neutral stance towards Polish government's actions. He was very popular in the Polish media in recent years because he spoke very well about our country and it's opportunities to Polish people. Him being a son of Jewish Holocaust survivors from Central Europe (Hungary), I'd expect him to hold a much more critical opinion of our countries and more freely express it in other countries' media. But here he is, calling a different view on democracy, what other Western media call challenging of European democratic values, authocracy, nationalism or even fascism.
