Seeing the report *Voices from the street - the mood in Moscow* from the BBC's Russia Editor, *Steve Rosenberg* on New Year's eve, it's quite plain why Russia's propaganda machine has to go to some efforts to push the idea "I am the happiest one of all, I live in Russia!" amongst its citizens. Which western country would commission a patriotic pop song to bolster public morale about the country? It would get ridiculed. The fact that Russia is using these measures is evidence of the overall public malaise.
