I’ve always loved Manny Machado. Actually, he’s been one of my favorite players ever since the Padres got him and we started seeing more of him in the National League. He would definitely ease the blow of losing Alonso. I would rather keep Alonso as a homegrown guy, even though he put up similar numbers to Machado OPS wise, but if Alonso has to go, then Machado would definitely be a great replacement.

I think Pete coming back to the Mets is possible, but I think it is less-than-likely. Which makes me kind of sad as a fan. I would love to see Pete slotted in behind Soto for the next 5-6 years. I just think Stearns is not going to pay the price that Pete can get elsewhere. Hope I'm wrong. I want to be wrong. But I think the Mets are going to end up with a stop-gap 1b or a new 3b going into '25. If it works out, as a Mets fan, .. okay. I just want the team to do well. But I'd love to see Pete back in Queens next year. I guess we'll see what happens. If forced to wager, gun to my head, I'd say it is more likely that Carlos Santana is playing 1b on opening day for the Mets next year than Pete is.

Machado is a BIG NO for me! And honestly I’d have to say you didn’t think this through! Machado and Soto did not get along in SD! 1 of things Soto said made him want to be here was the chemistry and the fun the team had. You throw that completely out the window bringing a guy with a big ego in here that didn’t get along with Soto in San Diego. And I actually thought you were going to say a different player and the 1 that actually makes sense! The ONLY player the Mets should have their eyes on right now is Vladimir Guerrero Jr! He’s 25 same age as Soto and Vientos, he can play 1st or 3rd just like Vientos and he’s actually good friends with Soto. SR & JR are both close with Soto and you can find pictures of them together outside of MLB, they’re all Dominican born players and Soto & Jr played together on the Dominican national team. Sr & Jr both congratulated Soto on his deal! I also think it’s pretty clear if you’re paying attention that the Mets have brought in a few Dominican players already to try and establish a little more of that culture around Soto w/ Montas and Siri both being from the DR! Alvarez has already semi recruited and hinted at this and last but not least the Mets have the kinda prospects to get a deal done and the Owner that can lock Guerrero up with a strong contract offer. Ryan Clifford the 1B you mentioned, Jett Willams who could replace BO Bichette, Carson Benge, Blade Tidwell and Noah McLean to the Jays for Vladdy and Jose Berrios 🤯 Crushes 2 birds w/ 1 stone and locks up a serious core group that could back up that DYNASTY talk!

Hello, stories out today say that Vlad G turned down his extension and will be a free agent after next year. He plays 1B so if that story gets confirmed, I wouldn’t sign Alonso who plays the same position. If we get Vlad, we could compete with the Dodgers with added pitching.
