Great overview explaining the differences. I bought my brother a Verity Sense for his birthday last year, because he was having cadence lock issues with his Fenix 6 Pro, and it has been working perfectly. Highly recommended when you don’t like chest straps and want more reliable heart rate tracking.

As much as I sometimes hate it when Apple Watch HR lags, I still remember that it happened on chest straps too all the time. It’s also not as comfortable to wear on a run and that already adds 2 problems instead of 1. I wish there was a system where the watch skips between the 2 when one stops working. As it is I’d rather deal with an occasional skip rather than ruin my runs by fiddling with all this tech.

I have both H10 and Verity Sense. I prefer the H10 because it's faster and more accurate but the straps wear out and are relatively expensive. Two device connection is a must-have for me since I use VR for cardio and want to see my heart rate in VR as well as on my phone when I'm using it outside of VR without having to re-pair.

Do you have a suggestion for the least expensive watch to pair an h10 to? I have been using my iphone, but I need to keep my phone in my pocket or backpack, since I do not want to be holding it in my hand the whole time. Something on the wrist would be nicer. Probem is, most of the sport watches are so expensive because they also have a heart rate sensor, but since I have that in the H10, I don't need double duty. just a screen.

I noticed the comparison graph in the video was dated May 2021. I don't find a lag in my HR on the Verity Sense spiking up currently. When it first came out the lag was terrible and through a firmware update (or 2) they changed/removed a smoothing algorithm. I actually feel like it's too sensitive now but that's the magic of technology and being able to process HRV. The old school Polar watches were designed to display your current HR reading as an avg of the last 5 beats. For the average person this was a lot more effective for training than looking at the noisy graph we look at now.

I have H10 and Verity and I love and hate both of them. H10 is the most accurate, responsive and secure HRM I've had. The band ensures contact all the time. But the extra contacts make the band harder and tighter on my chest, it is the most difficult band to breathe with. That's why I bought the Verity so I don't have pressure on my chest. Verity is too slow to react, giving 15 BPM difference when sprinting. Luckily I have powermeter so I don't watch the HR when sprinting, only when doing steady-ish effort where the lag is not a problem. The bigger problem of the Verity is also the band. It is softer than the H10's but the velcro is unnecessary and spoils the comfort. The metal clasp is too big too. But I found a solution to this problem too - sticking the pod to the inside of the cycling jersey's sleeve with double-sided tape. There is enough elasticity in the sleeve to hold it against the skin, I haven't noticed it losing contact and reporing weird values. I just have to remember to unstick it before washing the jersey.

Great comparison. I row a lot, and I first tried the Garmin dual Hrm. But the hook closure on the garmin strap sits right on the lats where there's a lot of movement when rowing -so it gave me a skin rash when i row for more than 30 minutes . I'm now trying out the Waoo TickrX where the closure is at the front -so no plastic closure on the strap, and therefore no skin rash -but the measurements are quite inconsistent and inacurate compared to the Garmin strap. Do you have any experience with rowing with the polar straps -if the closure irritates the skin?
@DesFit
@DesFit Жыл бұрын
To be honest I don't have issues with any of the straps in regards to irritation but heard of some folks who have issues with the Garmin straps. The Polar H9 soft strap has a flap over the hook and the H10 has a clip and doesn't have a flap to cover it. Haven't had issues with either though. The H10 clip actually is situated a bit further back vs on the side like the H9. Regardless of the closure, I'd maybe lean towards the H10 just because it's slightly more secure due to the silicone dots. Hope that helps. Thanks!
@dfcx1

I haven't tried rowing but I sometimes put the H10 on my back when doing VR boxing because holding my hands up can block the bluetooth signal otherwise. I'd suggest experimenting with rotating the strap so that the clip isn't somewhere irritating, doesn't cost anything to try and it might just work.

Thanks for this video! I own a couple of the Polar H10s and enjoy them with my Concept 2 rower and my Coros Pace 2 watch. I don't know if this is true or not, but someone once told me that, since there is not an on/off switch on the H10 unit, it can still "look" for a ANT or BT signal and waste battery even when not worn on a chest. To avoid this, a person might remove the hardware from the strap after use. But then it's easy to misplace the pieces as they are separate. A solution to that is to simply unbutton one side of the sensor from the belt, leaving the other connected. Then the unit technically has the circuit broken and is "off". I do this now, but I'm not an engineer. Do you think this is "bro science", DesFit, or is it a good idea? thank you.

@dfcx1
@dfcx1 Жыл бұрын
I have both, I got the Verity Sense as a back-up since I regularly wear out the H10 straps. The main issue is that the Verity Sense is slower to react to fast changes in heart rate. If you really care about accuracy or immediacy for HIIT type training and want to capture peaks lasting 10-30 seconds before they're over the H10 is *clearly* better, if you want something to remind you to stay in your target heart rate doing more steady state type stuff or just want a reasonable overall big picture view of your workout the Verity Sense is more than adequate.

Would you recommend the H10 for martial arts athletes or the Verity sense? I'm a kickboxer and I think the impact of every kicks on the torso will impact the heart rate measurement no?
@DesFit
@DesFit 5 ай бұрын
I don't do mma but I could see issues with either. H10 uses a pod which could detach depending on the type of impact. Doubt accuracy would be an issue though as long as strap keeps contact with the skin (and pod doesn't detach). The Verity Sense pod would likely have less chance of detaching but the velcro closure could come loose and the entire strap could detach from the arm. A way to solve this would be to sew the velcro closure closed (which is what I actually did just because I don't mind just slipping it through my hand and would prefer more security).

The black part where the velcro goes feels cheap and I've seen pictures of it distroyed after 6 months of daily use. I don't even undo it I just slide it on and off my arm so it should last me longer. The H10 straps I hear don't last more than 8-10 months with heavy use either, it starts to crack. Washing the corrosive sweat out of your bands is also important and don't try them in the dryer. Nothing lasts forever anymore just buy what works for you!.

Could anyone who owns the Verity Sense confirm if it's accurate for running on a treadmill? I like to do my steady state cardio for up to 45 minutes and need to make sure I'm in a certain heart rate zone in order to get the maximum benefits from my session. Thank you.

If yall are debating h9 vs h10 buy the h10 the h9 strap for anything really active cause the h9 strap will come undone
@DesFit
@DesFit Жыл бұрын
Just FYI: I haven’t had either strap come undone but some people have actually reported the opposite where they had the H10 come undone. It could be by particular use case. I use them for running, mountain biking, and weight training and don’t seem to have issues. I suppose there could be other use cases that may be different.

Can you connect polar h9 to samsung galaxy watch 4?
@DesFit

Only with 3rd party apps like the Sporty watch face. Samsung doesn’t support external sensors with their native workout app.

I know this is an old post, but I'm curious how the verity sense HR compares to the accuracy of a Garmin venu 2 plus. Thank you.
@DesFit
@DesFit 4 ай бұрын
External HR sensors in general get better accuracy than wrist based sensors mainly due to the location where HR is being measured.

@DesFit thank you. I have a Garmin venu 2 plus and love it, but I can no longer run or exercise due to developing Epstein-Barr and now diagnosed with ME/CFS. I now need to track my HR continuously and get alerts when over my AT. I have just ordered the polar verity sense arm band. I hope it helps me pace.
@DesFit
@DesFit 4 ай бұрын
Oh, external HR monitors really only work while manually recording activities - watches don’t utilize them on a 24/7 basis.

@DesFit I'm trying the band with an app designed for people with ME/CFS. It's supposed to be set up to track HR all day, and give but not during sleep (charge it overnight). Right now, I have to run the yoga activity all day on my garmin to get alerts, but it still seems to not notify me immediately. Hopefully, the band does help me. It also uses your HRV, symptoms, sleep etc to help figure your pacing out. Thank you for responding!

@DesFit I have already noticed my Garmin venu 2 plus will show an HR spike immediately after I do the treadmill (not recommended for ME patients but I did a very slow walk) but the polar verity sense armband doesn't show a spike at all.

Does this work with Rogue Echo Bike?
@DesFit
@DesFit Жыл бұрын
As long as the Rogue can pair with a bluetooth or ANT+ external HR sensor, the Verity Sense supports both those connection methods.

I disagree on the life of the 2025 CR batteries that go into the H10 chest strap. 10 months would be a dream for me. Where I train it is very hot and humid. The battery gives me 1 month at most, before which it starts giving out. Thats been the most annoying thing about the chest strap. A rechargeable chest strap receiver would be awesome to make this device independent on the quality of external batteries.

I do this around 80% of the time with my H9 and H10 pods. I suspect its the quality of the batteries themselves, they are bought new but the local Energizers must be duds. I've not tried another brand... @@DesFit
