Really enjoying this video series. Love how you explain things. You really go into detail on the easiest way to do it!! Kudos brother!!! Kenny

Thanks, Kenny! I think this kit scares a lot of people because of the size and the reputation, but it's really just like any other model. It's just... big. The whole idea of this thing is to try to bring it down mentally to the point where people feel they can do it too without too much difficulty. You don't need all of the other whiz-bang features as well to have a stunning model when it's done. Hopefully I'm able to communicate that. Thanks for watching!

Mattsmodelshop There are guys out there that have built this kit many times. But, they all do it pretty much the same way. Here is what I am doing, this is what I did and here is the finished product. You go into great detail explaining what, when, how and why! That method takes a lot of the intimidation out of it!! The kit doesn't intimidate me. But, when I finally get around to building mine I am gonna use your videos as reference to make it easier for me!! I thank you for that!

Hello, hope all is well. I've been watching your sereis on this build which I am currently building myself The Motion Picture version and find a lot of useful information and I thank you for taking the time to build and post for us veiwers. I was wondering if you could do a video of a Refit with Ralph's Mega Board? would be very very helpful with detail wire up for us refit builders.
@mattsmodelshop3 жыл бұрын
I've used some of Ralph's stuff in the past, and it's all very high quality. I used the bussard board and spinners in my TOS build as well as a couple of his flasher boards. I'm switching to mostly Arduino stuff these days, as I program for a living, and I can get Arduino boards for next to nothing from China. Not to mention, I'd have to build *another* refit! I think a third one may do me in!

@@mattsmodelshop The Refit is a bit of a challenge lol One can burn out on that build kinda quickly.

Even though I have built a couple of these, I still enjoy watching your series. You are doing a fantastic job and you explain things very thoroughly for people who want to build and light one. I should be doing a video on my Galactica and Pegasus in the next couple of days. I remember when I glued on that deflector dish part that the rod goes in, I really glue the heck out out of it as it supports a lot of wieght. I decided to pick up the Revell ZZ Top Eliminator kit today at Hobby Lobby as I always wanted to build one and I haven't done a car for a few years now. Surprisingly the fit issue with the top and the body isn't that bad like a lot of people say. Happy modeling!

Thanks for the kind words, Jim! I hear you about the support structure where the rod attaches. I'm going to epoxy the interior of it so it can't come apart. That glue joint supports the entire ship! If it cracks, the whole thing is done. I'd like to do more of these simple builds. I've got a 1:350 TOS waiting in the wings (a smooth saucer one!) that I'd like to build up like this.

Thank you for these videos, they are very helpful! How did you light block and paint the two clear shuttle bay back pieces (where there is blue light). I have the mask set but those masks the entire piece.
@mattsmodelshop3 жыл бұрын
I use black paint and then the color. As long as the light isn't too intense, it will block the light adequately. The mask set masks off the windows in the turbolifts in the shuttlebay in order to paint the rest. It worked really well.

Hi, love your work. Have two questions. First, what are the dimensions of the base for the original series Enterprise? I would love to build one and want to know how much room it takes up. Second, how long is the original series Enterprise 350 scale model? Again, for same reason as above.
@mattsmodelshop6 жыл бұрын
The 1:350 TOS just has a dome base that comes with it. It's a much smaller footprint than the ship. My TOS has a custom base. The dimension so the ship are 32" long by 15" wide. It's big, but not obscenely huge.

Hi, thanks for the info. On the base dimensions, I meant your custom one. What are the dimensions of your custom base? Thanks.
@mattsmodelshop6 жыл бұрын
It's 27 1/2 inches by 15 1/2 inches. I had it made by hdamodelworx.

I know you had said before but, where did you get the wire? I use magnet wire, but would like to try your stuff!

My wire is from hdamodelworx.com. It comes in 6 different colors, and is great for modeling.
