I was able to test swimming. I noticed accurate distance recording on the device which is a cool new feature. The HR data looked better than my watch data but didn't look as accurate when comparing it to a Garmin HRM strap. It's a little hard to tell what's correct after only one swim session. I'm going to try to do some more swim testing to see if I can get the best possible data before giving the device away to one of you guys. I'll keep you guys posted 👌

Thanks for the information, Matt. Do you know if the Verity has the same conversion issues, when swimming in a 25 yard pool, as the Vantage V/M? A year ago Polar acknowledged the conversion issue and confirmed they are working towards a resolution. The conversion issue: "...the watch is converting the distance as meters..." (per Mike of Polar on a Reddit stream of one year ago). I will probably delay purchasing the Verity until, at the least, there is a targeted date for the "fix" as I am guessing a Firmware update will be needed for all models with swim metrics. Did you swim yards or meters? Thanks
@mlegrand
@mlegrand 3 жыл бұрын
@@JD-ds1xj - Hi Joy, I only have access to a meter pool so I haven't noticed any conversion issues. It does ask you the length of the pool when you set up the device on your smart phone. Sorry I can't be more helpful. Maybe I can try to find a 25 yard pool in the near future. 🤷🏻‍♂️

@@mlegrand Thanks, Matt. I hope you or, maybe, another Verity-user, can swim in a yards-pool with the new Verity. With my Vantage, and previously with my V800 (2016-2020), when the watch is set to yards, the conversion error occurs (note: conversion error is how Mike at Polar described it in the Reddit stream of last year). It would behoove anyone who is considering purchasing the Verity and who swims in a yardage pool to confirm the conversion error has been resolved with the release of the Verity or that Polar has demonstrated a commitment, via a targeted date, to a resolution. Again, thanks.

Furthest distance I've swam in a measured fashion, is 1500 meters (badly) in 2 triathlons (same location) open water (I may have swam more in training or in the ocean when spending some time practicing, but not consistently enough to really track)... for me swimming is by far my worst, 1500 meters for me is around 50 minutes, with some time spent at kayaks, LOL, I've left the water behind several heats that started after mine, LOL, but still managed to gain spots in the swim and run at least on my category! (I did much better in a later pool-triathlon, swimming 300m in a reasonable pace only slipping a few spots from entering the pool in that case. Thanks for the speedy review!

Matt - this was really helpful. I’m old school and have only used a cheat strap for the last 10 years! But - I haven’t found a strap that will stay in the right place accords my chest during longer/harder run sessions so I’m considering an optical arm option it would be great if you could comments on how it feels to wear the arm band and how you set it up for racing (is it just another thing you need to put on in T1?). Any recommendation on a hr monitor that will actually stay I the right place would be useful. None of Garmin’s hr monitors work for me and Wahoo is 60/30 for staying in place. Many thanks!

HR data should be significantly more accurate than a watch in the water. Typically the wrist is a hard spot to get accurate data when it’s moving a lot like in swimming. It happen few times ...Not a pleasant experience . And the second thing... once you see the data online after you did your workout ...What do you really get from it ?? You run too fast or too slow ?? Anything else ??
@mlegrand
@mlegrand 3 жыл бұрын
So a couple of things, this new device would capture swim distance, speed and heart rate. However when you're using it on a run or something like that, I'd expect most people are using it in broadcast mode so that they can have all of that data stored on their watch. If you wore it in a race, you could see how high your HR was at the beginning of a race vs the middle or end. If you went out too hard in the race the heart rate data might tell you about it and helpful you with pacing. But I think most people use heart rate data for training. For example, doing an easy run and making sure they stay in zone 1 or 2. Sorry you've had issues with you OH1. I had a hard time telling when the device was recording and when it wasn't. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍

Thanks for the review~ I use an OH1 and my biggest complaint was the strap as the sensor would flip over too easily especially when placed over the tricep. Not sure I need the enhanced version so I may opt to buy the updated strap when it comes available. I haven't used my OH1 in the pool because I think my Garmin Fenix 6 has better metrics. I swim 4K+ per workout (4x/wk) on a normal basis and longest open water swim at 2.7 miles (Donner Lake). Not a fan of the temple placement for swimming, rather wear it on the arm or wrist. The Garmin Fenix seems to handle heart rate under water pretty well~ The OH1 I prefer for dryland training vs the Fenix 6 because there are fewer drops in heart rate when running or indoor X-training.

Yes, I’ve compared this to the h10 and I get almost identical results depending on what I’m doing. All of the chest straps are giving me a bit faster readings. And they all look accurate if I put some gel on before testing. This verity might be a touch off when doing weightlifting but it was spot on for indoor cycling and running. I have a garmin 935 and would like to pair this with the polar varity rather than a garmin heartstrap. The Garmin swim heartstrap does not like to have the batter changed and stopped working when I changed the battery. If I swim with this but choose to just have the steady heart rate montitor mode working and not the swim mode, do you you think this works. I am now swimming 2100 yards, but have swum much further when I was younger.

I would suggest using the polar verity sense in swim mode with onboard storage. The issue is transmitting heart rate data to your watch through the water is very difficult for bluetooth. The water is 700 times more dense than air and the radio waves just don't do a good job transmitting threw the water. The onboard storage is the way to go. Best of luck and let me know what you find out!

Hello...I was looking for one piece of info and did not find it in your video. And it is wearing the device. Once it is on your arm (either below your elbow or above), can the device sit anywhere around the circumference of your arm? How does that impact the accuracy, is there one position on the circumference better than another? Is below elbow better than above elbow, from accuracy perspective? Polar does not address these.
@mlegrand
@mlegrand 3 жыл бұрын
Above the elbow should be better than below. I just tend to like it below. Wearing it facing a meatier part of the arm would be best. Optical HRMs tend to have a hard time with joints and tendon areas. The less movement of the location the better. The accuracy’s pretty impressive. I had great results using this. Hope this helps!

With regard to heart rate variability, my super-cheap Polar Unite watch is able to provide nightly HRV data so I don't see why this wouldn't be able to do the same. I've never swam any great distance voluntarily, but I probably have a few hundred meters under my belt due to capsized canoes.

Good Review once again! I’ve actively been swimming since 1.6.2019 and my longest swim was roundabout 3.6 K in a pool. Here’s a little story I gotta tell you, since I’ve been swimming I’ve met this girl who’s always there in the pool with me. So here comes to that and so on, and finally last year we decided to follow each other on Strava and all the other social media stuff. Ever since we’ve become very close friends and swim buddy’s which I love because all of our sports activities were solo. Now, by any means this is not an attempt to score a Polar Verity sense from you through this story. So anyway she told me she had troubles wearing a HR-chest strap during her runs/swims because she's very slim so I told here about this Polar OH1 arm strap I’ve seen and she seemed very interested, So I thought about gifting her one. And now here comes Polar with the Verity Sense which is even better because of the swim mode. But like you already mentioned it is kinda pricey for a gift, and I don’t want her to feel awkward for me giving her this expensive piece of equipment. She’s going through some rough times now, not being able to run because of an run injury and swimming pools are also closed during our lockdown here in Germany she also lives by here self for the moment, as she awaits her becoming future husband who is at this point in time still in the states. I try to make her feel a little bit better going through this time until he arrives. Nevertheless I would gladly take over the shipping in case you decide to give away the Verity Sense to a random viewer from Germany and make a girl very happy.

I don't think that's exactly what it's designed for. You'd also want something to accept the streaming data. I would also look at some affordable optical heart rate monitors that are on watches or maybe something like an Oura ring.

Fantastic review, while my various generations of Apple Watches have always been reasonable there are times where it locks onto cadence and it sometimes takes more than a few minutes to "catch" the real acceleration of my HR... I think I'll pick this device up. Really nice production values.

Thanks! We’re trying. This device should be significantly more accurate than a wrist worn optical HRM but a chest strap would be a little more responsive also. I’m post a video on a few affordable chest strap HRMs later this week.

Well, I mentioned the two workouts I’ve used it for and I have the previous version of this same device. It’s an excellent heart rate monitor. Sometimes companies send me products to review right before they are announced. I also tend to give devices away so some items don’t get long term reviews. It’d be nice to see some sort of review after 2 years of usage. I’d be curious about durability and battery degradation after a larger block of time. 🤷🏻‍♂️
