Polar Verity Sense Full Review, In-Depth Heart Rate Accuracy Testing for CrossFit + OH1+ Comparison

Oh yes, I have the older OH1, it's awesome! I never go back to the chest strap. Accuracy is good enough, but if you need to measure very fast changes in HR, it's better to use a chest strap. The chest strap is measuring electric signals of the heart rate, and it's much faster. Optical sensor needs to analyze blood flow and calculate the HR. Night and day difference in speed but the end result is almost the same.

Great review! I have one question, though. What would happen if I ran out of the strap range during a workout while it's connected to my watch? Would I lose data?

Great stuff! I was waiting for this review before ordering an external heart rate monitor. Seems to be the best Way for an accurate heart rate while not having to wear a chest strap.

Love the Verity Sense. Have been using it for a few weeks. Super comfortable, easy to adjust strap, and simple to use. All the things that I wish Whoop was after trying it multiple times, and the Verity Sense is a lower profile than the Whoop tracking unit.

Completely agree! What are you pairing it with for analytics?

@@fitgearhunter Actually try to keep it simple and went all Polar, I like the app better than Garmin, so have the Verity Sense and Vantage M2 for workouts, Oura ring for sleep. I feel like no brand or single solution is perfect, hope that changes soon. I go back and forth between Garmin and Polar. Have done crossfit for a decade, so pretty much know by feel on workouts, but wanting to get more into Ultras/Running so tracking outputs/HR zones closer these days.

Which activity do i need to choose when doing crossfit in the Polar Flow app?
@michalkotras77462 жыл бұрын
Nice video man! Thanks for it. I'd like to buy polar verity because it's better choice than chest strap. So i'd like to ask you, if polar verity could have problems with HR accuracy on tattooed arms? Thanks for reply. Best regards

I've always been a chest strap guy... but I think I'm going to give this a try. I'm not going to retire the H-10 just yet... but this looks more convenient for certain workouts.
@fitgearhunter2 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the delay! Yes totally, this was a great solution. I hated that they added choices of heart rate recording versus heart rate transmission versus swimming because I just wanted the heart rate transmission! Always felt slightly unsure if I was doing it right ha ha. But other than that it is an excellent alternative solution

Nice vid! Been watching your videos for a while now and recently bought a fenix 6x sapphire to amp up my sports and activity tracking capabilities. (I'm coming from suunto spartan ultra). I have garmins HRM Pro chest strap, but I don't want to use it during burpees, cleans and snatches because of the bar path, the bar can hit the sensor (been there done that several times). Do you think the wrist OHR of the fenix 6x is enough for using it during these sessions or how do you think would verity sense be worth it to pair it with fenix 6x?
@fitgearhunter3 жыл бұрын
Hey! And unfortunately if doing any wrist flex the Garmin is only going to pick up 80% accuracy, so if you can afford it the PVS is a great option. Thanks for watching! Right there with you on the bar path issues.
@Wulzzie3 жыл бұрын
Nice, thank you! Does the verity sense have any lag in quick heart rate increases like other optical HR sensors usually have or is it comparable to chest strap in terms of responsiveness? (It can take even 10s to see the increase in OHR readings) I couldn’t tell from your video@@fitgearhunter
@fitgearhunter3 жыл бұрын
@@Wulzzie hey! I didn’t track the HR over a time-scale to see if it was lagging. It likely was, but still captured the needed accuracy for the whole of the workout. Good question. Thanks.

what happens when you are swimming and have the H10 or Verity Sense paired with a Polar watch. Does it successfully record your full session or drops when they are not connected (i.e. when underwater) ?
@fitgearhunter2 жыл бұрын
Now I haven’t tested it but from all the reviews I’ve watched along the way it has zero problems at all staying connected and correctly transmitting your heart rate while swimming

With the range, do you even need a watch? Can you pair directly to a phone? If so, what App would you use/ recommend on Android?
@fitgearhunter3 жыл бұрын
Hey! Yes the watch provides the better analysis of the workout intensity. You can def pair to a phone only, but it will only track heart rate, zones, and calories, etc. and you would have to use polar beat app. Thanks!

Thanks for the review ! I’m a bit confused. Is it possible to get the Training Load Pro with the Verity Sense and Polar flow only? 🤔
@fitgearhunter3 жыл бұрын
Hello and so sorry. Technically no. You just get heart rate analysis and calories/etc with just verity and flow or beat BUT if you own a watch in the polar system it will calculate the training load like you were wearing it, even if you weren’t. It’s how the system processes the info when it syncs from either flow or beat. When it comes in and you have a watch on the system that qualifies you to get TLP it will access the workout that way. That’s my understanding and experience as of the platform at least a couple of months ago - not sure if it will change.

@@fitgearhunter Thank you for taking the time to answer me so quickly! It is much clearer. Looks like I'll need to watch more videos to find a watch that fits my needs :)

That Polar Verity sense uses the same optical heart rate sensor than the Polar M430, right?
@fitgearhunter3 жыл бұрын
Hey - good question. I haven’t reviewed the 430 but I think it has a similar design for sure - you’re right. The tracking is more advanced on the verity and especially so on the bicep though.
@amintakruri69292 жыл бұрын
would you get the trainings benefit and etc.. on the Garmin if you use the Polar verity sense?
@fitgearhunter2 жыл бұрын
It depends! If you are connecting the strap to the watch for HR transmission, and you have a forerunner or Fenix series you’ll get all the same analytics - all the strap is doing is transmitting your heart rate for the analysis. So you would basically connect it like a Bluetooth sensor for heart rate to the watch and then when you start the workout on the watch it will track the heart rate transmitted from the sensor. Does that make sense?
@amintakruri69292 жыл бұрын
@@fitgearhunter Thanks. Well, theoritically yes. I will try it and update you concerning that. I am using the Garmin Fenix 6x pro and the Polar Verity sense is on the way

If you record the workout on the unit itself without starting a workout on the watch (Garmin), will it still show up in Garmin Connect with your load/recovery stats?
@fitgearhunter3 жыл бұрын
Hey! No unfortunately it will not. It only uses the record feature to upload to the polar ecosystem. You have to pair it and use it as a HR tracker by starting the workout on the watch to capture info for Garmin’s load/recovery status. Thanks!

So disappointed in the Verity Sense. This was my first attempt to use a heart rate monitor. I simply could not get it to operate. The online instructions were not basic enough for me, and I never felt that I understood how to make it work, I couldn’t find any phone support and while the company did respond to two email requests, I still couldn’t get it to work. I finally returned it and am waiting for a refund,

Oh gosh I'm so sorry to hear that! I did think it was a little bit sensitive in the set up or in the correct usage, I didn't like that about it at all. Have you considered one of the really basic ones from wahoo or schotch (so?)

I received Polar Verity Sense for Christmas. As this is unwanted gift (it's really crappy) I am trying to reurn it since then. Customer service either does not bother to reply or they do everything they can to not give you instructions how to return products. Then after 3 weeks they deman packing sleep in order to accept the return. What an anti-consumer greedy corporation. Guys, check trustpilot, don't buy their products.
