This channel is an eye opener! Every other metric that these watches/ tracker markets depend on upon accuracy of the sensors! No matter how cheap or expensive if the basics are not done right , I mean what's the point of selling them? Just for profits fooling consumers? Amazfit designs the best watches for budget but their sensors are crap and haven't learned anything over the years. Thankfully the Fitbit charge 6 made some progress recently, I think we owe TQS alot for impartial data based reviews which is the way it should be.

Fact is Polar have lost their status as the most accurate HRM. By pursuing the wrist based OHR market they have made a bad mistake and simply lost to APPLE. All Polar's apps/functions (sleep monitoring, stress, calories etc) are now based on algorithms that are feed inaccurate HR ! So not trust worthy and as inaccurate as cheaper brands

Great review. I have the Polar Vantage 3 since its release date. Also have other watches to compare. I think is good and accurate as Garmin Fenix 7pro and EPIX pro. Yesterday Polar updated the firmware so it would be really nice to have a revision review from your side to check out the results once again.

@thequantifiedscientist HRM during weightlifting - *Overall* Whoop is the most accurate for determining **strain** because it incorporates accelerometer data and uses Velocity-based training calculations. H10 may record the heart rate well or more accurate but heart rate alone cannot and does not correctly determine strain in weightlifting exercises! only VBT can. it's different for endurance training

Polar would be better off re releasing the V800, I tried Vantage M and Pacer Pro and even Garmin Instinct 2X and I keep going back to the V800 paired with the H10 hr monitor. The V800 still has the most visible screen in any conditions, cool feature like taps and heart touch and the Polar Flow website is still the best for analysing your training sessions. Reviewers obsess over GPS tracking but none seem to test for an accurate and consistent pace speed, which is far more useful.

I've had optical HR sensor watches for a few years (currently using a Garmin Fenix 5) and have never relied on the built in optical sensor for HR tracking while exercising. It always has flaws and almost each sport has to have algorithms specifically designed for it in order for it to work 'okay'. With these sports watches - Polar Vantage V3 included - you typically pair another HR sensor such as a chest strap or an optical sensor that can be worn on the arm (which will generally produce better results than the wrist). There are a lot of variables with optical sensors including bone structure around the wrist, colour of skin, thickness of skin and even how much hair is there so different people will always have more or less success. Also - aside from firmware issues some have noted - the physical shape of the watch itself could be a reason for reduced performance too. It it doesn't sit as neat on a users wrist it may produce worse results - so someone else might actually have a different experience. Ideally in this test it would be repeated with a number of users (large small, different skin colours, male/female etc) - you might find you are the ideal design candidate! For me the main reason for the optical HR sensor is tracking the HR during the day or night for recovery purposes and I understand with this one you can also utilise the built in sensor to perform various tests that Polar used to require you to wear a separate HR belt so it is still a useful addition even if it can't be relied upon during exercise. I believe this type of test is a great one and when they do get to the point where the on wrist sensor can accurately match the chest band H10 for all people of all shapes, sizes and colour then that will be a great day as we can ditch all those additional sensors. However I think that is a way off at the moment - if it will ever come. Determining the HR by the change in reflected light through the skin as the blood flows is not the best starting point so I'm not sure they'll ever be on a par with a chest sensor which is picking up the electrical signals as the heart beats. Walking, moving, jumping, clenching your fist, vibrations on handlebars etc are always going to produce a change in blood flow that the sensor has to filter - you are essentially trying to get a 'clean' signal from a noisy one. Anyone paying around £500 for a watch like this will almost certainly be looking at an additional HR sensor as you really should not rely on an optical sensor in my opinion - especially one worn on the outside of the wrist (you'll get better readings if you wear it on the inside of your wrist in most cases but it's uncomfortable). In short the accuracy of the built in optical sensor on this type of watch should actually be a fairly minor part of your decision process when purchasing in my opinion. To be honest if they released the watch without the sensor at all it would still be an expensive watch and would still do 90% of the job it does now - just with a paired additional sensor which 90% of people buying this watch will be doing regardless.

Hi, Thank you for presenting the data. Hearing your interpretation of the graph shown at 3:40, is it not fair to expect some of a lag? Considering that the H10 measures electrical activity and the optical sensor measures the pulse (cardiac output). Hence, there is likely to be a delay while the blood circulates to compensate for the increased demand, initially adjusting with vasoconstriction and then dilating when the stroke volume adjusts to the demand.

I am out of contract with my mobile this black Friday, so I will be going over to apple, I thought about Huawei but it would bug me that all the sleep functionality was pretend Mickey Mouse toy watch standard.
