I was able to replace the rear upper and lower control arm bushings on my 05 Sportsman 500 without removing the axle from the transmission. I removed the shock, then the lower a arm bolts, then the forward a- arm mount to the transmission case. This allowed me enough wiggle room to get the bolts safely past the CV boots without damaging them. On reinstallation I simply reversed the direction of the forward upper a arm bolt.

Really appreciate the video. Helped me figure some things out. I have an 06 Sportsman 800 and the only big issue I had was getting both stabilizer bars on. I had to leave the upper a arm disconnected from the hub on both sides until I had the stabilizer bar on both sides. Like you, I was getting noise and found almost all of the bushings were gone. I ended up replacing all the bushings including the stabilizer bars and both drive shafts as well. Thanks for a great reference video!!

Well, I changed mine this weekend with your encouraging video. No wi-if or cell service up at the farm, so had to ‘un tighten’ (lol) quite a few connections to get things back together. A few more tips: 1) Do NOT try thus without the powered 90° wrench. You’re wrists will hate you. Thankfully I took two air driven powered wrenches, and one shot craps early in the disassembly process. 2) Use grease!!!! These will last a lot longer. 3) Do the brake (right) side first as he does. You’ll get the bad words out early, and the left side will be super easy. 4) Get all your tools on the floor early, your knees and hips will thank you. And get a comfortable pad to sit on. GREAT video!!!

Straight to the point and simple explanation. I have a customers 2005 Sportsman 500 and all his bushings are gone. His brakes were very bad and the ATV would not idle. After finally getting those brakes working again and swapping out the fuel pump and selector switch, I still yet have the oil and filter change, I will be looking forward to your next video.

The inner metal rod that the bolts thred into are the a arm shafts. I called em rods, I learned while ordering my bushings after the vid gave me the confidence to do the job. I'm a mechanical man, just not a mechanic.

Great video, brother. I replaced my axle last weekend and watched several videos. EASY job, but no one mentioned in their video that you will ABSOLUTELY need to replace 6 of the bushings. The 4 fat lower ones (2 inside, 2 outside), AND the two for the top of the hub assembly. When I disassembled it, several of them were completely disintegrated. I watched your video to see exactly what I need. Keep up the great work. I appreciate it.

You can put the the long bolt the other way while it's disassembled so if you have to change them again, you dont have to take out the axle. I seen that on a polaris forum. Also lube the hell out of everything before you put it back together especially ifvyhrre are no zero fittings

That sound like the smart thing to do. But you don't want to get to crazy with grease. That just attracts dirt which will get trapped behind the bushing and wear them out quicker.

Your videos are real good. Those bolts that required you to remove the axle are a pain. I'd cut the head off and pull them out the other way, then replace them in the direction they should have been. You could avoid a lot of work that way. Polaris has a few ornery bolts that cause trouble like that. I have used a piece of garden hose for front a-arm bushings. 🙄 Heated and

great video sir. you got a bit lucky getting the axle out so quickly. I have a 2004, the Polaris dealer gave up so I fought with it for 3 days. My CV joint came apart and it was a pain in the neck getting it out. my friend told me it should just pull out.... nope not after being in there for so long. anyway thank you you a very good video. I didn't know if my lower outer arm needed bushings on both sides of the hub assembly and now I know. thank you.

I did this job not to long ago. I was not able to get one rear axle out. I actually had to fully remove the rear diff with axle in, then press it out from the other side with a hydraulic press. Even the press was struggling to push it out. From now on, all axles are covered in grease on the spline inserts. I guess after 18 years of being in there with out being removed once, it was STUCK!!

@@thebasshunter Finished up the rear bushings over the weekend. Took longer than I anticipated. It took a good hour to pull one of the axles. I didn't think it was ever coming out. the other axle pulled out after 4 pulls. Thanks for the video! Now its on to changing the brake pads and a few stripped hub studs.

Had mine at shop , picked it up and noticed all the bushings where GONE! NOT THERE! Mechanic explained they where plastic and had deuterated and just turned in to like dust and when he rode it they where just GONE! So I thought somebody had got them , but I was wrong, he showed me another atv just like mine and I saw they were gone just like mine, he said it was common for Polaris atvs , and he did lots of them.

Those bushings need to be changed every year or, grease them as you should every couple of rides. That's why there are Zerk fittings...

Make sure it’s the right bushing for your ATV because you should not be having that problem. You may have to get a drill bit the size of the spindle and run that through there first or you need a different bushing kit.

Just Finished doing one side all the bushings were easy to put in just like you explained, but does the c clip have to be on the shaft when you put it in. I cannot get the shaft back in with the c clip on shaft do you have any tips?

It will go in there just get a piece of wood and put it on the outside of the axle and just tip it in but the c- clip has to be there. You might use a little grease if it's just that tuff.

No actually they're bushings to dampen any major jolts or vibration from transfering to the frame.

Yes the spacer has to be used. If you feel the bushings are to long. I would try sanding few mm off the inside of the bushing to make it shorter but use the spacers.

You want to tighten them enough that it’s not crashing the bushing and the A-arm still move freely.

No, I don’t know why the don’t put grease fittings on all the bushing. They would not wear out so quickly. But not you did good. The only problem with putting grease on the bushing is grease attract dirt but I rather have grease than on grease.

Just give a quick pull and it should come out. It’s just a metal ring around the shaft of the axle that’s holding it in. Or get a big screw driver and put behind the axle to pry it out. Just pulling on it should work fine.

@@ArthurYTM21 you could have bad bearings. Is both tires wearing bad or just one? Because there really is no adjustment on the rear tires. I would jack the ATV up and put the rear tire back and forth to see if you have play in those bearings. Or it maybe you just need to put more air in your rear tires. I run my tire kind of hard because I ride on the street a lot.
