Excellent video I was trying to figure out why all this water was coming out of my quick disconnect and I think I’ve got the pressure relief valve problem-thanks for the education! I now know what I need to buy tomorrow!

Thanks for the video. I didn't have the handy universal removal tool or pool/spa lube, so used a pipe wrench and mineral oil instead. My Polaris is back up and running!

New subscriber here. Glad I found you. I'll try the lube on the relief valve but so far when the (relatively new) valve is screwed down tight it seems to shoot water out the circumference of the round black top part that you replaced in this video. The water flows like a fountain about 9 inches high, up the side tiles and onto the walkway. I unscrewed the valve to relieve some of the pressure and it yields a more manageable flowing fountain -- away from the tiles and walkway. But it's still not the way it used to be. There was never a flowing fountain issue. The problem may stem from this: I just replaced my 12-year-old PB4-60 pump with a brand-new one a few days ago. I was surprised to find that it sounds louder than the old one when the old one was in good working condition. However, when I run the Polaris 280 it tames the sound back down to normal levels. I'm wondering if the new (unusually loud) PB4-60 has something to do with the gushing pressure relief valve? Sometimes pool problems are all connected, and other times they are just separate issues. 1. I'll try the pool Magic Lube on the relief valve as shown in this video. 2. If that fails I'll buy a new one to see if that does any good. The old pump suddenly got loud one day, that's why I replaced it. I doubt it was a broken or clogged impeller. Instead of doing the necessary detective work to try to repair it, I decided to buy a new one since it was so old. I'll do an autopsy to find out. The troubling thing is this new PB4-60 is making the same loud sound -- like water is gushing through it. So the new PB4-60 purchase may not have been necessary. The problem may lie somewhere else. I'll let you know how it goes. Thank you for your vlog.

If you have a filter at the wall connection, make sure it’s clean. You may also need to install one of the red or blue restrictor plates in the back of the wall connection since you have a new pump. We have also seen brand new valve be faulty. Thank you for watching and commenting. We appreciate you watching our video. Please subscribe to the channel if you haven’t already. Thank you for the info. I have a similar problem but my relief valve is in tact. I even replaced the entire pressure valve yet I am still getting water coming out the valve and my Polaris 3900 is very slow or not moving. I also made sure that there is a restrictor disk in the wall connection. its a blue one. What would be the next thing to check please?
@diycollaborative

You might try the red restrictor disk. Do you have an inline filter or wall filter at the connector to the wall? You might check and make sure it’s not dirty or clogged. Hi! Thanks for putting out these videos. I just watched one on pressure relief valve repair. I have a P-3900 sport cleaner, and the pressure relief valve continually sprays water around the little black circle in the cap, not around the threads. Are they supposed to do that, or is it defective? Thanks for any help!

Hey, nice video. Hoping you may be able to help me! I am trouble shooting my polaris pool vacuum not doing anything, just sitting like yours was. It was a perfect storm beginning with the booster pump failing. I replaced that but then I noticed that the o-ring on my universal connector was being blown out a tiny bit, so much that the connector was making a noise that you could hear, really loud because water was now exiting through the area where the gasket was being pushed out. I thought, is it my universal connector that goes into the wall fitting? I replaced that but had to use the same pressure relief valve because I didn't think that was the problem. Whenever it made noise, I would disconnect and reconnect, only to hear the noise again and see the o-ring pushed out in one spot, like there was too much pressure in the line. Do you think it is just the pressure relief valve that needs to be replaced? I thought that you could adjust the pressure of the water at the pool plumbing. I have a valve that I can adjust but that didn;t seem to be the solution because the noise comes back after a good few minutes and the o-ring is pushed out again. What do you think?
@diycollaborative

Do you have the restricter plate installed? These might be red or blue behind the wall fitting. These also help with reducing the pressure. You might also make sure you have the right booster pump installed for your cleaner. Check the hose and the cleaner to make sure nothing is stuck inside. Had a pool you stuck inside the bottom of the Polaris once. It sounds like your pump is working, but we had one once that the impeller was broken off the shaft inside the volute. The Polaris was getting some pressure from the primary pump, but not enough to propel it. I think you said it was a new pump, but be suspect of anything at this point. We’ve seen brand new ones with issues.

When I screwed that piece into the connector, I still feel water coming out from the valve, even though it’s screwed in all the way. It’s a brand new Polaris 280. Is that how they function? Or did mine come defective? My previous Polaris 360 had zero water coming out from that pressure valve when it was completely closed. Thank you in advance for your help.

Do you have the blue or red reducer in the connector. Your booster pump may have very high pressure and need one of those. Most of them have some water coming out the the pressure relief valve, but not excessive. Thank you for watching and commenting. We appreciate you watching our video. We have many we still need to do. Sorry… will put that on the list. In pools with chlorine over time, the plastic fittings tend to swell up making them difficult to remove. On most like this, you have to push in while turning. It can be a pain while not in the pool. Changing the fitting out occasionally will help, and keeping the O-ring lubricated will also help. Persistence pays off. 🙂

Like yours, when I try to disconnect my polaris from the wall I have to unscrew the entire piece that goes into the wall but then I cannot get the polaris to unscrew from the wall fitting. What do I need to do to get it to unscrew completely? Also the black knob portion is leaking water. Do I need to replace it? We just got our pool a few months ago so would parts need to be replaced already?
@diycollaborative
@diycollaborative 11 ай бұрын
If it’s chlorine that’s likely why. Over time the plastic swells. The best thing I’ve found if the entire thing unscrews, take large channel locks and/or strap wrench to separate the pieces. Or you may just need to order replacement parts for all three items. Quick disconnect, the threaded part that screws into the wall and the part you mentioned which is a pressure valve. Replacement parts are fairly inexpensive on AMAZON. Kudos to you for working on your own pool! ⭐️ Thank you for watching and commenting. We appreciate you watching our video. Where the connection to the wall is, there may be a restrictor plate. Red or blue on most pools. Those can be changed. Also on the pressure relief valve, it can be adjusted by turning the nut in or out to change the flow. I’m curious if you have a DE filter. I’ve seen the pool get cloudy when a grid in the filter is leaking or damaged. Hope this helps.

I just replaced the whole unit where the pressure relief found those into the wall of the pool and I noticed the next day that the water was just bubbling out of where the pressure relief valve was. The pressure relief valve looks good but water just keeps flowing and bubbling up. What do you thinks up with this? Thank you.

@diycollaborative
@diycollaborative 20 күн бұрын
Are the floats on the service line positioned correctly? Is the booster pump working correctly? Check the filter at the quick disconnect at the wall. The service line hose can get very stiff in a pool in the winter. Not sure of your location, but might try taking it out of the pool when not on and stretching it out straight on the pool deck in the sunshine. Over time the hose on these development a memory. Try all this and hopefully it will help. It may actually be several things.

@@diycollaborative Understood, certainly! But as all of us in the trade, we are products of our own training and experiences. The pressure relief valve on the wall fitting is a throwback to the early days of Polaris cleaners. Very conservatively, I have worked at least a thousand cleaners in the past 28 years. I just haven't seen the purpose of the overpressure valve, other than they get brittle and break and you have to buy a new one. The wall fitting has a restrictor behind it already, usually blue, sometimes red if more restriction is needed. The pressure relief valve is the "appendix" of the Polaris system. A standard 1" PVC male threaded plug is a direct replacement, and.... they don't break. Been using them for years!
