Polaris Sportsman 500 backfire through exhaust

This was exactly my problem - Thank you I just put in a new cam and headgasket and didn't want to tear it apart again to check my valve clearance - Set to .006 so I knew it was right but this explained it. I am so glad there are people like you will to share issues and fixs it makes things so much easier for me. Thanks again and keep making videos.

I had checked cam lobes, valve clearance, and about everything else and was about to scrap the whole damn thing and happened to stumble across it. Glad to hear it helped!

So I have a 2001 500 that seems to backfire and pop out the exhaust at wot. The bike will.top out at around 15 mph. Could this be the issue, or is this likely to be only an issue at idle?

I would think that would be a valve adjustment issue. Might be a valve spring getting weak - can’t keep valves shut at higher rpms.... just a guess there though. When I had this particular issue, it wouldn’t even idle without popping.

I have the exact same four wheeler an the problem I am having with mine is when I put it in reverse it boggs down an shuts off on Me. But will run fine in drive. An when it shuts off in reverse it will make a loud pop noise or when I start it back up. Any ideas what it can be

@@gwp1ohio let me know if you get er fixed. I've got a 2000 polaris magnum 325 and its having the same issue. I adjusted idle screw so it idles by itself (still slows down sometimes) but it backfires on deceleration. I cleaned out the carb and new spark plug but it made next to no difference.

@@jorcktheoutcast8007 I've opened the throttle control cover and able to with a screw driver push the little plunger button, it will then work and we can drive it. But, we have to do it every time! I'm not sure if yours is set up the same.
