The dead men would not be happy with that installation. Remember Peter the solder flows to the heat of the flame. Good Job Mikey Pipes and Peter Piper. Make the trades great again.

Yes, the old Hartford loop is important
@PipeDoctor Жыл бұрын
Absolutely it is
@Rainmaker88 Жыл бұрын
Hartford loop is overrated imo it saves you maybe one or two cycles of the boiler. People don’t look at their boiler at best for a week or two.
@PipeDoctor Жыл бұрын
i hope you don't service steam systems@@Rainmaker88
@Rainmaker88 Жыл бұрын
You have a hole in the wet return. The return drains but the boiler still has water it fires sending steam to the radiators turns to water and leaks out the wet return. Now the water is below the lowest allowable water level. The Hartford loop saved you one heating cycle. It’s almost useless.

Do you need to have an electronic low water cutoff to have the automatic water feed? I have an old style water cutoff valve.

Im live in Boston MA and the boiler for one of my tenants apt doesn't have an automatic water feeder, im an HVAC tech i mainly dont work on boilers so i was not sure how to do it, he has the same boiler you used in this video and some of your other video and i think im able to do the install for him now. Thank You

It is what it is? That loop gives sense of security that the boiler won’t demolish that house. Not saying it still can’t if it has the loop installed but there’s a reason the insurance company is the one that designed that loop..

You do a great video and help the apprentice along..he is such a humble guy. Thanks for the information on the low water feeder..had a coworker install one of those same ones you had and he said it did feed water when he first installed it but then it wont feed after that. So i think he probably forgot to set the dip switches or connect the wires with the right polarity. I will have him check those this weekend...tha ks again for the great information...i was cracking up about the Bill Clinton stuff...you make the work environment less stressful when you make jokes and laugh.😅😅

I am getting conflicting information regarding where should the water feed come from? Should it be hot or cold water from the water heater? My weil mclain boiler eg manual says don't introduce cold water into a hot boiler. However, I was told I should not feed the auto feeder with hot water. Right now hot water from my water heater is feeding my boiler.

Should everyone have there feeder set to 2 minutes and the feed amount to LWCO ? I moved into my new house and I’m assuming the previous owners has it set to 4 minutes and 1 gallon I’m not sure if i should change it or not

Please explain, whether your using the auto fed or manual feed aren’t you using the same amount of water ?

@@PipeDoctor Thanks for the reply. I'm getting a new steam boiler installed in the next few weeks and they included an automatic feeder on the quote. I'll absolutely discuss this with them!

Congrats on 150k. Lets have a party! Man that installl though. If i were you id be feeling the same way about it. I dont understand how these people can come in and do this to other living breathing thriving people. We are not objects that hand out money, but some "home services" treat the customer like that. Im glad you have great CS.

I'm not a boiler guy and even I know about the equalizer and Hartford loop. That installation guy doesn't know Dan Holohan
@josecamacho19110 ай бұрын
One thing you will never see is another provider saying the last guy did a good job.. just had this same scenario with my windshield on my car.. after he was done installing it he tells me it’s better than the last guy who installed it.. 😂😂😂 mind I never had any issues with the windshield aside from when it cracked from a rock on the road.
@PipeDoctor10 ай бұрын
Actually, Jose, I totally disagree with your comment. A professional will never badmouth another professional facts. I have seen disasters, and I have seen complete shit shows and I very very rarely talk negatively about another contractor on the work that they did.
@davidlampe4153 Жыл бұрын
Time for Peter to watch heating help on KZbin there’s some videos on steam heating old presentation’s by Dan Holohan about steam boiler piping and it might be helpful if Peter watched them once a year to review what the meaning of the dead men’s lessons are. I have to wonder if that boiler was in a pit before it was replaced with a gas boiler. The main seems very low in your video. The previous contractor has not read much about near boiler piping otherwise he wouldn’t have made so many mistakes. No equalizer, no drop header, no drip leg on the relief valve!

I bet the equalizer was there but the hoopal who installed the new boiler took it out. Because he was an idiot and did job for $1,500. You get what you pay for.
