I discovered something new - Segments as a Sampler

I made some experiments over the weekend and this lead me to this kind of discovery. It may not be the most useful but still interesting and it gives you some new advantages to create and edit sound in ‪@bitwig‬

The possibilty to drag and drop a sample into Segments which then gets fit by a curve would be the solution. Or knowing how the bwcurves file format is structered and writing a Python program that convert wav files into bwcurve - if you want to go really crazy, haha.

Nice idea. You can get almost identical result with an organ set to monophonic, using only the fundamental, then adding a steps modulator which triggers on notes with frequency set to the pitch of current note with lets say x4 multiplier. Then you draw 8 steps, first 100% depth 1 step length, second is 75% depth and 2 steps wide etc. Then you modulate the pitch by lets say 36 semitones. So you get the same phase locked kick which is entirely in tune. Don't forget to set the organ to retriger the phase on each note. This also works in essentials.

You have turned The Grid into a calculator! You abuser! 😆 Seriously though...very creative use of the grid! It sounds like you are requesting a sample level editor/playback device which is a hybrid of segments, sampler, and recorder? My first thought is Sound Forge or an editor that lets your draw or edit to the sample level.

Is this finally the most solid phase in the grid? I tried the constant multiplier trick and while it does make some good snaps it’s still not perfect like kick2 or serum.

I don’t know much about bigwig but on scrawl I saw it says 4x4 on the lower right corner. I would have thought if you change those numbers it would expand to the right to like you are doing in segments?

@@PolarityMusic Yeah, its unfortunate. basically no DAW out there has a sampler thats a sampler... only Sample Players 😅. Thankfully I can build my own in Plug Data but it always struck me as weird... whats the point in a sampler/wavetable you cant record into!

Part of the point of the daw is to be able to record stuff into it, so sampler plugins dont really need that feature
