That's right. We hope for quality to keep improving for the polaroid originals (and it seems that it has been improving with time)! Thanks for a great review. To be honest, the facts you pointed out for film storage during shipping period, and quality inconsistency have set me off into thinking about buying the OneStep 2. Probably as it stands, the wide 300 from fujifilm is a "safer" (albeit more boring) option.

This older review was/is one of the best real world Polaroid box camera reviews on the Tube. This is exactly what shooting with a Polaroid instant camera is all about. Disappointment, frustration, rage, being at the mercy of random factors totally beyond your control. But then you shoot that one magical dreamy ethereally vintage image that makes it all worthwhile. BTW the cameras and film have improved since this vid was released

another great review.... cheers... Yup, lets hope they work the bugs out with the unpredictable film results.. I agree, it's a drag having 30% of your images come out so poorly... Another reason why I only buy the film once every 16 months or so... far too expensive to be throwing out so many images... I don't understand why there are so many people who defend it saying stuff like.. "it's creative, it's art", it's not, it's a sub par product that needs to be addressed... I love instant photography as much as anyone else, and you've stated this as well... Keep up the great work and Polaroid Originals, please please put more effort into the films rather than coming out with different colours of the same camera....

@@SweetLouPhotography I shot 2 packs of film, i-Type Stranger Things brand, out of the 16 images, 10 turned out OK, the 6 others were film errors, terrible blotches, half developed..and no matter what anyone says, they were not cool or artist, they were a terrible result of a product that's not 100% reliable... this had nothing to do with operator error, truly film flaws... it's discouraging to think that the % of decent shots is low... but however, I'm going to shoot 4 more packs and see what happens. I've shielded them from light, the temperature was good, not cold nor hot.. While I was shooting with the Originals, I was shooting with instax wide and every shot turned out amazing, colour saturation was dead on, et et and of course no need to worry about shielding it et et... I'm such a fan of Polaroid but can't give it a total thumbs up because the film is far to expensive for something that does not deliver... More to follow... cheers mate, from Toronto , Canada

I love 'em yeah but as for quality and price point.. a sub par product.. every 16 months I buy at least 10 packs and I might get 6 photos that are worthy of showing anyone..... a nice toy for kids but expensive to say the least.. 8 shots, that's BS as well..... Nice review. I think I’ll keep shooting the Fujifilm. The One Step 2 sounds fun, but that film tho. I gave up on Impossible Project film. I shot a lot of Spectra (B&W and color) and some 600. At $3 a shot and with 75% of the shots being unusable because the film was bad, I just couldn’t justify using it anymore. I got new hope when Impossible became Polaroid Originals and acquired the chemistry and tech they’d long been trying to replicate. I’d heard the film’s consistency, look, and archivability(?) were all improved. Aaaaand you just shat all over that hope. But hey, you saved me some money and frustration. Cudos.

I can only order from the eu site and it raises the price compared to usd on amazon

First off, thank you so much!! Truth be told, I don't have a great solution to the film. In my experience, my best results have come from going directly to B&H (big camera store in NYC if you're not familiar) and buying the film from them, which is stored in their fridges. Option two would be getting it from Polaroid officially, whether that's amazon or their site. My concern with that route is in the hot summer, those boxes are sitting in trucks and what not.... In these colder months, you probably don't have to worry as much. That said, I recently picked up the One Step + for a review, and I grabbed a few packs for film from Target. When I got home, I realized they were all expired. Sooooo long comment short, I love their cameras so much, but they really need to figure out the film situation.

According to Polaroid, yes "Polaroid film packs should be stored in their unopened, sealed packaging in a cool and dry environment. We recommend storing our film flat inside a fridge at a constant temperature between 4 - 18°C / 41 - 65°F. Do not freeze your film packs! This will damage the chemistry and your film will not perform properly when used." source: support.polaroid.com/hc/en-us/articles/115012519828-How-to-get-the-most-out-of-Polaroid-film

I bought the OneStep 2 a few weeks ago, and to be honest, I'm very disappointed. I've read a few little articles and even watched several youtube videos about how to avoid having the film turn out so orange, or dark, or too bright. Frankly, I've gone through an entire pack and 1 photo already, and none of them turned out well! They're still too orange, or too dark, or too bright. I've stored this 2nd pack in the fridge (before opening) for a couple hours, and then waited until it returned back to room temperature. 15 minutes after I shot the photo, thankfully it wasn't orange this time, but I look like a white ghost in the photo, and the trees behind me looked too dark! I was standing under the sun, but it wasn't too bright outside at the time. The flash was on, and the exposure was normal, but I really don't know what I can do.
@SweetLouPhotography5 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear- it can definitely be disappointing, especially with how pricey the film is. I made a video about best practices when using the film. Idk if you watched that one, but that might help you out a bit: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oYKooXqbnMyaY9U Their website also has a bunch of tips which are helpful. That's the source for my video too. The big thing is the temperature and the light. It can't be too hot or too cold. And if you don't shield it from the light, it won't develop properly. Hope that helps

I would say it depends on the camera. My SX-70 actually scratches the film coating (the plastic upper layer of the image). That may be because of the rollers, but i still get the same results even after cleaning them.

I agree. I've had this camera for almost a year now, and it's one of my firm favourites. I just love it. I figured out how to overcome the slight angle issue (viewfinder/lens ratio), and tested many of their films. I've used this camera a lot, even if it hurts my budget. :) A few examples here: www.flickr.com/photos/nanou1973/

Yooooooooo you have some absolute bangers in that gallery. Wonderful work! I especially love the flowers with the pink borders. Dude playing the banjo is fantastic too. Thanks so much for watching. Have you seen the new version they released? They gave us a tubey viewfinder thing. Also looks like a focus control. Prettttty sweet, I might need to get one.

Thank you very much! I love this camera.... yeah I'm afraid I fell for the OneStep + and have been testing it now. The first one I got was defective, I had to return it :/

@@Nanou197373 bummer. What are your thoughts so far though?
@Nanou1973736 жыл бұрын
It's a frustrating experience so far, although I've only used one pack of film with it (I just got a replacement this week). It seems to be doing the same thing but I'm going to try it with other films before concluding it's the camera again. It's not ejecting the black slide like it's supposed to on the first try. I had the same issue with the suspected faulty one I've returned. The app is cool, working well.... I need to use it for a few more weeks to be able to give it a fair chance. Maybe I got a second faulty one... I've never had that problem with the OneStep 2, it's always worked perfectly well...

Hope that works out for ya. That's a bummer about the film, and would def suck more if you had to get a third replacement
