This 1969 Pontiac GTO has been abandoned since the 1980s, rotted to pieces by Minnesota salt roads, but will it run and drive again? It is a very rare car sporting a de-optioned 2 barrel Pontiac 400, a column shift, bucket seats with no console, am/fm and in-dash tach but no other options.

The current fashion in the custom classic car world is patina and lowered suspension. This car is already there. Great find. Congratulations - you don't need to do anything to it, except, maybe, get it running. By the standards, i.e., fashion, of today, it's beautiful!

I didn't scroll thru the hundreds of comments (congrats on that!) but that GTO is pretty rare. The 2 bbl was only available in a GTO from 67 to 69 and is why it is a column shift GTO not a floor shift example. It does have some options though. The buckets are an option as well as the AM/FM radio. Also the "chicken wire" cowl grill does not specifically mean an early build car. I have a 1969 LeMans bought new by my grandfather that is heavily optioned that was built on December 22nd 1969 at the Baltimore Maryland plant and is has the exact same "chicken wire" style cowl grill. The car has 51k original miles and is completely original except the timing chain was replaced at 45k because I'm not a fan of factory nylon coated timing chains along with the water pump. The only other things that have been replaced are normal tune up parts. My gosh though, I've never seen a Pontiac frame that heavily rusted to the point the bumper fell off! Yikes!

This may sound weird, but this guys voice is so soothing that I put on revival vids to go to sleep to. Also I enjoy the kind of repair triage used, that if the repair works, it's a goodun, no pedantic bullsugar about getting it all 'right' or having to use the 'correct' parts to consider the car as a fun project. Cheers from the UK.

If you ever pull a steering wheel again, here’s a free tip to prevent a free face rearrangement. Once the bolt/nut is off, wind it back on a couple of threads, then disengage the wheel. The bolt/nut should hold the wheel - hand tight should be plenty.
@dolbyvixen
@dolbyvixen Ай бұрын
You don't even need a puller for it. Just back the nut off most of the way, and alternate push-pull at 9 and 3 on the wheel (pull at 9, push at 3, then reverse) a few times. It'll pull right off...usually

Really really really looking forward to a follow up! If you want to drive it home, you may have to cut the hanging bits of the framerail and rear bumper off, aside from fixing the breaks. Also gotta do something to the floor pans, at least remove the seats and patch something in there that will hold for the trip. This thing wants to be saved, so save it, even if it means having to weld half the car again.

I know where there is a verdoro green 68 GTO that is rotted nearly as bad as that one...and its all numbers match...I look at it and imagine it when it was new in 1968 , what a car! There is a few real Judges in that building as well...a silver 70, THREE, count em three carousel red 69's, and a 70 Seirra yellow. The boss is going to list them for sale soon, as well as a 70 vert, a 64 tri power 4 speed. They are all major projects, but real deal PHS papers on all of them. You should see his restored ones! He also has a 71 Judge at a resto shop right now, been there for 1.5 years, should be done in the summer hopefully.

Saved another classic from the crusher!!! Can’t wait to see what you make of it. More people need to have the knowledge and vision to save the classic cars/trucks.
