It's time for Duct Tape Drags 2024, but we need to swap an engine into our Pontiac powered 1967 Buick Skylark. Can we get it done, and drive it 1500 miles to make it in time?

The presence of the previous alternator's molten remains acts as a motivator for replacement units to work extra hard. Also adds at least 1.63 horsepower by improving cooling performance. It's not a molten blob, it's an artisanal, custom forged heatsink.

Watching this video reminded me of chasing down an overheating issue on my '64 F-85. We tried a radiator, then a thermostat, then a water pump, then new / better electric fans, then a camshaft... turns out the person who owned it before me decided to dump at least 3 "Coolant Stop Leaks" into the block (because of a leaky core plug), which completely dammed up the coolant passages around the cylinders. Once that was fixed, that engine never ran over 180F, even in hot summer traffic. Keep up the good work, best budget auto channel on KZbin!

I don't like Stop Leak at all. I have used a few tablespoons of black pepper in a radiator which actually sealed a pinhole permanently!😂

Exactly! Go torch all that old stopleak out of the coolant tubes. Never ever use engine or radiator stop leak, it kills shit.

This reminded me of Hot Rod Power tour vids from 2019. Deboss Garage building an engine in a hotel room with VGG, JYD Thunderhead 289, Dylan McCool and others. My favorite videos are car guys doing car guy things together. Too bad there seems to be a rift between VGG and JYD now.

Dalton, you are the reason I got started on YT. you and Kevin in fact. you are such a nice person, as seems obvious from the number of people you said hello to at DTD. If you were one of the "usual,YT crowd", you wouldn't have nearly so many people want to come and meet you, because you are what you are! If I could get travel insurance, could generally travel, I'd be over there to shake you by the hand and give Jess a great big hug, as you two are such lovely people. Thanks and sorry for all your problems going to DTD. Do you not think about taking something that will definitely get you there and back without problems, just enjoy the drive down and back? Hope you got home and to Mook and Kevin's Wedding, which I am guessing is this weekend. Please give the pair of them my love and congratulations and hopes for a happy life together. From UK.

I’m a trucker and know that particular Flying J quite well, especially the Denny’s. Apparently you and I only live a couple of hours away from each other, so don’t be surprised if I hit you up for a project car for my son. He’s about to turn 30, and could use something besides video games and guns for a hobby. (Nothing wrong with those, BTW) But he’s mentioned wanting to do something besides just going to the conservation range with me. You’re a natural born entertainer! Love your work, so keep it up! 👍

@dipstiksubaru3246

Need a phenolic carb spacer to stop heat soaking the carb from the bottom. Then, use a closed air cleaner and run drier ducting to the grille so it can only pull air from outside of the engine bay. Did this on my f150 and the difference was startling. There a reason the oems don't use open air cleaners. They just suck all the hot air from the engine bay, and it chokes the engine. I put an IAT to check and the intake temps at 65mph cruise with the open element you could watch the temps rise then feel it start to surge. With the snorkels, it would actually drop in temp on the highway and didn't heat soak at idle in traffic. And this is on an f150 with a much larger engine bay than the Skygoat so on yours it would be even more beneficial 😊
