That is a very, very valid point. People underestimate the value and practicality of small vehicles. Instead the trend is toward large vehicles that are wasteful. I'd also love to see lower speeds to make the efficiency better.

Exactly. I'm on the lookout for a small van with a 40kWh battery, and there's not enough of them about! After you've been driving electric for a bit you soon learn that paying for range above 200 miles is silly for most people.

05:55 From the consumption point of view, a week ago I took my EV6 on a 380+ mile run to collect a cat. I expected about 3.5 to 4 miles per kWh, from watching reports. At home I usually get 4 to 4.5 most of the time. I got 4.5 over the whole trip, averaging between 50 to 60 mph on the M3, M25 and A12. My overall average even went up. Count me impressed. This does 2.7 to 3.1 OUCH! I will keep my EV6. (Even if I had the extra 20 grand :-).

@@Mr35000000 There are several rehoming centres on the Isle of Wight (RSPCA and Cats Protection mainly), but you are limited to what cats come in, and as I already had 3 others, limited to cats who will live with other cats. That reduces the possibilities hugely: Most cats are not keen on mixing with others, in the case of already matched pairs tending to prefer their own existing 'family.' If you are happy to adopt a kitten, there are choices, but they require attention full time that I can not give, as I work. So in 2 years of looking, there have been less than a dozen that might might fit my circumstances, all adopted within a few weeks. I never expected to get this puss, but he has had a hard start in life, and was returned after a month by his previous adopters: The kiss of death for a cat. I have unusual conditions that I thought he might accept, where most families would not suit him. Going much better than I expect a week in, but it will take time :-). Yes, it's nice that Polestar came up with creative design and color patterns to give that car a compact, less massive feeling. But when I'm driving around some narrow cobblestone streets in countryside villages or try to find a parking slot in the city, this will not change the fact that this car is yet another huge, massive SUV. I'm so fed up with this kind of car. Can't see them anymore

I find it incredible how Mercedes, BMW, etc. charge 100k starting price for an SUV, and nobody bats an eye, but when a new brand does it - in my opinion better- then people are outraged. If you can't afford it, then go post angry comments in Mercedes videos too, because they've been doing that much longer than any of us have been alive for.
@agegamon

That's the thing: it's so frustrating to see ALL of these brands focusing so freaking much on expensive EVs (and cars in general). But people (granted, probably not the same people) will *brag* about their +$70k pickups and SUVs. If they're going to spend an insane amount of money on a car, I'd at least like to see them going electric. Yes these materials and resources could be more efficiently used, but that is categorically not how capitalism works.

Mercedes, BMW, etc are luxury car brands. (They also sell vehicles that are 2 to 3 to 4x the amount of this Polestar.) They have been making cars for 100 +/- years. They are 'aspirational' brands. Don't get me wrong, I think the Mercedes EQS and EQE are hideous, inside and out, and are complete failures. The BMW iX is ugly, but I still kind of want one. Polestar is great, but they have a weird name (let's be honest) and don't have brand cache nor reputation.

@@bob808you know that polestar have been tuning cars for a long time. They were Volvos equivalent to BMW M division or AMG but more focused on STCC (Swedish touring car championship), meaning they actually made Volvos in to legit racing cars. If BMW branched of M division in to a new brand that would be polestar but without the legit racing heritage. And it’s not like Polestar hade a racing team 50-60 years ago they actually hade it with the same people still working and tuning Polestars today. And polestar, Volvo and Zeekr have cooperation in Gothenburg cross working between the companies. They have the same engineers working on Polestar as they have on Volvo. Polestar means northern star but could be said to be a bit of Swenglish for a native American English speaker.

Nobody bats an eye? Didn't mercedes announce that they are removing their EV platform because of low sales and Porsche Taycan prices drop like they're hot? I think people bat eyes and close wallets for these overpriced EVs that have lower quality interiors. With every passing year, compared to older versions, they are more expensive and have cheaper feeling materials. That is my experience with most EVs from German manufacturers.

@@santostv. Class has nothing to do with it. There are many EVs for sale at a price similar to other cars. There have always been expensive cars, that only wealthy people can afford. Early adopters usually pay a higher price for new technology (EVs), which then become cheaper. So, those with higher disposable money kick start the market. Money and class are different things.

The price😵‍💫 And what advantage does it really have over any other EV SUV out there? Still not clear from this video. Sunroof for example, cool but can it open or does it have a shade? Not much talk about the practicality of this car.

It reminds me of the Fisker, maybe slightly better interior and having Google auto running the screen means the software will be just fine. It has got to be cheaper than a LR model Y. We have a model X 2018, haven't found anything to replace it with yet (no model X in the UK for awhile now) . Looked into the ID Buzz but whilst it looks funky, the interior feels too cheap, with no opening rear windows or vents for the back seats. Tiny screen, poor software and the driving position was not great for my 5ft2 tall wife. Probably end up getting some crazy Chinese car like a Zeekr at some point, or maybe a sports car suv ev like the new lotus.

Not much smaller at all. It's just different. Different platform and based on Zeekr. The 3 is bsed on a Volvo and I prefer the 3. The 3 is more upscale as well.

At this price point I hope they sort out the build quality issues. My Polestar 2 had so many rattles it had gone back to the service centre 5 times, now I haven't seen it in nearly 3 months as the traction system died and the car had to be towed to the service centre where it's sat with neither Polestar nor Volvo able to figure out what's wrong with it.

What has "100% traced nappa leather" got to do with sustainability? And the line "animal welfare secured" is bizarre. Yes the skin of lambs and goats might be a regenerative resource, because you can raise animals, but how can they're welfare be "secured" - it is not in their welfare if you slaughter them to drape your seats with their skin

As the owner of a 2015 24kwh Nissan Leaf it amazes me that efficiency of 4 or 5 miles per kwh is seen as especially good. My little Leaf does 4.8 miles per kwh on long journeys and tops 5.3 on shorter distance mixed journeys.

I agree. My Tesla Model Y regularly does about 4.3 miles per kWh. That's good enough for me, but I don't know why some reviewers make such a big deal about cars doing 4 miles per kWh. My Seat Mii Electric often got up to 7 miles per kWh.
