100% agree with the "fast estate" comment. Proportionally, it's definitely a lifted wagon, more like an XC70 or an Audi Allroad than an i5 or an XC60. In fact, a few months back, Jim Rowan (Volvo's head honcho) said maybe it's time for a fully electric estate. I would be wholly unsurprised if the Polestar 3 exchanged its tracksuit for pinstripes and became the Volvo EV90.
@ashliehiggins7 ай бұрын
then Volvo stopped selling estates in the UK.
@TheSteinbitt7 ай бұрын
Isn’t it just an estate now?
@JamesField7 ай бұрын
@@TheSteinbitt it's straddling a blurred line, if you ask me. It has estate proportions, but it's styled like an SUV/crossover and wears the platforms of slightly lifted suspension. In Volvo form, I imagine it would sacrifice a little bit of aero efficiency to square off the rear end and add a window, and it would sit lower, but would retain the overall proportions.
@JamesField7 ай бұрын
@@ashliehiggins they have to follow the numbers. Sales of estates were plummeting in favour of more fashionable but more compromised SUVs. It wouldn't pay them to develop a new estate to replace the V60 and V90. If, however, they can copy Polestar's homework and drop development costs low enough, the numbers *might* stack up.

Efficiency?? 110kwh 🤯 = less than 400 mile range??? I REALLY want to love Polestar. I love their design ethos and what they stand for. @SusieSmart6 ай бұрын
An official figure of ~3.64 mi/kWh is not too bad for a large SUV like this. Officially, the BMW iX xDrive50 and Audi SQ8 eTron only achieve 3.48 and 2.56 mi/kWh respectively so the Polestar is actually pretty decent when compared to its equally powerful rivals 🤷♂️ From a CO2 emissions perspective, in the U.K. anyway, even what you deem as being poor still results in it achieving the equivalent of 245 mpg when compared to an equivalent petrol or diesel. Somewhere with a much “dirtier” grid like the US results in it still achieving the equivalent of 101.8 MPG (imp) or 84.77 MPG (US). You really think a ~500 bhp large petrol SUV can come anywhere near that? I mean the equivalent petrol BMW, Mercedes and Audi SUV’s with similar performance only officially achieve 23-25 MPG (imp) or 19-20 MPG (US)

I dont think 0-60 in 2. whatever seconds is something you do once or a party trick, thats real world performance, away from lights, overtaking, climbing hills... 99 percent of cars including electric cars handle perfectly fine at the speeds most people will be using them so i think asking manufacturers of electric SUV's to focus more on handling as if real world roads are race tracks is frankly nonsense and very ''motoring journalist'' thinking. When you live with the car in the real world the suspension needs to be compliant enough to deal with potholes, it needs to be comfortable and it needs to be punchy enough to do what you want when you want it in regards to overtaking lorries, tractors or chavs in corsa's. We have cars designed to corner flat and stable but compromise on comfort, they are sports cars. Everybody wants a family sized car that can scare a Porsche at some lights and go the distance they need while being comfortable, i dont think we need electric cars to reduce performance in favor of cornering like its a track and if thats what you want, cars like the Ioniq 5 N are showing us its possible to get there.

I don't care about only range & size of the batter... I care about efficiency! Please please begin to mention the battery efficiency (i.e. 3.9 miles/kwh) as the primary metric when discussing electric cars. Of course anyone can slap a huge 100+kw battery into a car and say it's got great range... this king of automotive manufacturer marketing is lacking & does not contribute to the advancement of efficient BEV's!
