It isn't the first time they've noted down numberplates at a car meet & it won't be the last. They'll also research bodycam, CCTV, ANPR & social media to identify problem vehicles/drivers... (& yes, this will go onto intelligence systems that can be shared UK-wide)

The plod at all the meets are recording plates, its the 1 thing there good at making lists but unfortunately you will be put on the police register and pulled over for no good reason , thats plod underhand giving out fines cos its easy. Get your car stolen an you get a crime number from a phone call they wont attend 😢😢😢😢

Yeah I had my car stolen back in the day and plod weren’t interested, I found it in a local lake, plod suddenly started caring because it was polluting the lake, turned up on my doorstep telling me to get it out of the lake🤷‍♂️ I shut the door on them, cunts weren’t interested when it was stolen why should I care about it being in a lake.🤷‍♂️

That’s bad but it was terrible when I was driving around in the late 90’s early 00’s (yes I’m an old boy lol). Constantly stopped by police and given things called ‘producers’ where you had to show your insurance and mot details to a nominated police station within a week or you would get a court summons. They also gave out VDR’s if they felt that your car had a defect, of which you had to get signed off by an Mot station within 2 weeks and again shown to the local police station, if this wasn’t done then the car was no longer legal to drive. Mobile speed cameras were everywhere as were unmarked cars as they had the funding back then. The car scene was great fun but there was always a paranoia as they were soo hot on getting rid of boy racers.

s.59 notices are meant to be served in person during a traffic stop - I don't believe that they can be served through the post after the event (however they could always NIP you via the post for an actual offence, like careless/dangerous driving)

@@mikey_bb they can, and will, serve them postal, got mine 10 days after a greenlane trip, from a picture snapped by either a rambler or homeowner, and it was totally undeserved, 5 vehicles, low speed, zero damage respectfully driven, closing all gates etc,well known documented undisputed right of way, and all recorded an submitted as proof! STILL got section 59'd

@@mikey_bb I think I depends how its reported, and by whom, we were stopped by a local on route, very argumentative, reported me, via reg number saying he was assaulted by me, exiting my vehicle and harassing him, entirely fabricated but with multiple witnesses, I reported to the Police station as requested, submitted 3x video evidence, case dropped, no charges as had been threatened, but no apology, and the section 59 ran until it expired 😳, The 'home owner' was apparently a high up in the local council (Oxfordshire), and the ramblers were not charged with false testimonies or perverting the course of justice as they had lied in written statements to the police 🚔 Dashcams earned their keep that day, and I still don't go laning in that area anymore!

You can ask (legally) why the Police are recording your plate, what they intend to do with it and information about what lists they intend to put you on.

I mean, you can ask but they don't have to tell you the reason - if it is being recorded in a public place for a valid policing purpose (which recording ASB & driving offences on a public highway would be), then it's exempt from being disclosed. This means that they don't have to give you the reason why, unless they intend to give you a ticket there & then. The same would also apply if you submitted a Subject Access Request under the Data Protection Act at a later date.
