Just watching the interview part in "Four Lives" right now and had to bring this video up to compare. They got all the details right, even wearing the same hoodie. The failings by the police in this case is incredible, makes you wonder how many other murders have got away with it and still walk free.

@@beniteztheconman I agree that Port is calm and seems fairly normal in the early stages of this interview but as the officer presents the evidence Port becomes quiet and mumbles his words exactly how Merchant did. Performance of the year for me and he deserves as many accolades as possible.

"Police denied they were linked or suspicious." Of course they did. It's the same reason that Dahmer got away with his murders for so long; institutionalised homophobia. It's shameful that so little has changed in regards to bigotry within the police force over the course of decades.
@Rom-ju5tf7 жыл бұрын
OMG the police detective interviewing him says that the way this boys died was "highly unusual for even one person to die under those circumstances" yet they treated the first 2 murders as UNSUSPICIOUS, even after family members begged them to investigate. Unbelievable.
@clarissamcpigeon78576 жыл бұрын
Institutional homophobia. The police attitude was basically "that's just what young gay lads do" and didn't consider it suspicious. One of the victim's mothers even said that the police would have thrown everything at the investigation if it had been smoking hot young women being killed - and I think she's absolutely right. But they didn't care about gay boys because we're back to "that's just what young gay lads do" and a stereotypical view of an irresponsible lifestyle by saying gay lads take drugs, they sleep around with gazillions of different partners, sexual health is just non-existent etc. I'm not gay myself and even I know that is BS thanks to acceptance of homosexuality and the advent of same-sex marriage - there are more "good gays" these days, monogamy is king and gay men have begun slut shaming in a big way.

Here's a little fun fact for assholes; like you, and berserk religious people: "Proverbs 6:16-19 tells us, "There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers." Notice that homosexuality does not make this list. It would be more biblical to promote phrases such as "God hates liars" and "God hates murderers." In fact, the Bible nowhere directly states that God hates homosexuals." I will admit, the Bible disagrees with homosexuality. There are many versus saying so. Even with all of that, the Bible does not describe homosexuality as a greater sin than any other. According to the Bible, God’s forgiveness is just as available to a homosexual as it is to an adulterer, idol worshipper, murderer, thief, etc. God also promises the strength for victory over sin, including homosexuality, to all those who will believe in Jesus Christ for their salvation. Therefore, I would say because of the bible's standards, you would be disregarding the teachings of Thou Shalt Not Judge shit. You are sinning for being a complete asshole to ANYONE that is considered a sinner. Swallow your arrogance, before it sends you to hell, bitch.

The UK police have a standardised interview technique, which which they go through planned interview questions. In the US, police are gunning for a confession, which makes the entire dynamic different. Police in the UK can lean into the interview format without feeling stressed that they have to get a smoking gun - Their focus is on getting as complete a picture as possible. They then later confront suspects on any inconsistencies in their story which is when there can be fireworks.

It's worth knowing this about the case (because I've seen comments like "well what do you expect if you go to drug orgies" etc) These 4 men in particular (the 4 victims who died) did not arrange to meet Port with intention of doing drugs or this 'chem sex' that is frequently referred to. This part of the story was made up by Port AFTER the deaths in aid to make himself look less guilty. Port did attend chem sex parties but never with any of these four young men. Port had fantasies (which he carried out) of drugged/unconscious men so when these guys (and the other victims-who did not die) were talking to him on various apps, they did not know this (or what he was planning to do once he got them back to the flat).

SGM ASMR:: If a gay guy invites another gay guy over for drinks+dinner then its pretty obvious that sex is on the cards; I'm a hetro woman & if a 1st date invited me for dinner to their house then I'd assume he thought we were going to have sex & I'd decline, guys would automatically think you were 'up for it' if you went to their house & this is because a lot of men are so obsessed with 'getting some' that they assume we're all obsessed with it.

The english shoould look to the canadians for interrogation advice. The furniture is poorly positioned. The table should be pushed into the corner, Stephen sitting at the end and the detective turned to face him without the presence of a table as a protective barrier. This open position makes the suspect less comfortable and more exposed. If the interrogator leans forward his head becomes lower than the suspect, allowing him to feel superior and and gaining trust in the interrogator. Don't believe me? Watch the 2.5 hour video of the Russell Williams interrogation held in Canada. A brilliant piece of interrogation considering the profile of the suspect, a canadian air force colonel who liked to take photos of himself in his victim's panties.

You don't need all that. That's a good interview which went very well, but confessions aren't everything. In fact, North American police forces are starting to use the PEACE model (what's seen on this video) instead of the Reid technique. I could equally point to the interrogation of Branden Dassey as an example of why this *shouldn't* be done.

5:26 Interviewer: Stephen, did you have any involvement in his death? Port: I did not, no, no Interviewer: Did you kill Jack Taylor? Port: I did not, no. There you have two non-contracting answers, which rate high on the deception scale. Those answers should have been immediate red flags in the interview. He then makes a third non-contracting answer when asked a third question.
