Most of Mr. Piper's stories from 1956 onwards are timeless. If the Paratime series was narrated by a creepypasta reader and posted alongside contemporary sci fi short stories, I'd think they were written within the last 2 years.

@yuzzem64 There are many sci fi creepypastas on KZbin narrated by Magnetar, Dr. Creepen, Creepsmcpasta etc., which deals with alternate dimensions. "The Strangers" is a pretty good one. Basically a subway train which connects multiple dimensions and a passenger trapped aboard it.

Going by the descriptions of the sigma-ray needler here and in other stories of the Paratime series, it appears that the weapon emits an electromagnetic burst of a very certain frequency which disrupts the electrical communication between cells and neurons in living organisms, causing the heart to stop and the brain to stop sending signals to the lungs, etc. Basically an electromagnetic version of a neurotoxin, and leaves no chemical traces behind. That is why it kills without leaving any wound or physical evidence. Electrical currents kill in the same fashion, if the amperage of a shock is just enough to paralyze heart muscle, it can be fatal.
