A Los Angeles County Sheriff's traffic stop, allegedly conducted for excessive window tinting, led to a fishing expedition that stranded an innocent passenger at night without her phone, wallet, keys or transportation. But cop watchers @laurasharkcw @tomzebra and @jodiekatmedia appeared on the scene to hold LASD accountable and to assist the stranded passenger. This week on the Police Accountability Report, hosts Taya Graham and Stephen Janis speak with Tom and Laura about the encounter and discuss what this case reveals about the phenomenon of over policing and the incentive structure behind the questionable allocation of police time and resources.
Production: Stephen Janis, Taya Graham

I Love your show💛❤💛We need more Cop Watchers on the street(s). I am a former Military Policeman & Military Police Investtigator from the 1974-1975. I have personally witnessed inappropriate Fayetteville,NC Police Department behavior. I was assigned to walk along with 2-Fayetteville Police Officers in the 500 Block of Haystreet. This area of downtown Fayetteville consisted of top less bars w/Go-Go dancers. Prostitutes on the streets overt and covert.This special liaison of having a Uniformed MP from the Ft Bragg Provost Marshallsw/the Fayetteville Police was due to so many arrests of Army soldiers. This particular night one of the Police Officers detained a young man behind a building and shocked him w/ a Special kind of Baton. This Baton had 2-silver probes extending from the end. The guy was shocked multiple times w/this Cattle Prod type baton. Then Officer told "don't let me catch you downtown Fayetteville again". I was in shock vs scared vs paralyzed by fear to say anything🥺😨. I went on to become a MP Investigator. Even in that role, (I now had more Formal Training & Clout) I would not let certain Military Police take people we apprehended to the bathroom. I did not want these guys beaten and have to go to Womach Army Hospital before their Company Commander would come and sign them out of the MP Station Jail vs Holding Tank. It is crying shame the Abuse and Intimidation that some people have suffered at the hands of Law Enforcement personnel. God Above In Heaven Is Watching.I 👏 applaud the Cop Watchers here on earth. Keep up the good work 😊

Qualified immunity should not go away. If viewers read their state legislation they would understand it better. So if an officer acts out of the color of the law. QI does not protect them. @@4DCALSIf citizens are told that ignorance of the law is no excuse then police should be held to the same standard. Police are charged with enforcing the law so a good officer should make it their duty to be well-versed in the law and specifically in the rights of individuals. Qualified immunity holds them to a lower standard than the average citizen and that is NOT okay. If they don't like the job and the risk then they are free to quit. Government cannot have more rights than citizens.
@BBouncer
@BBouncer 8 ай бұрын
@@charlesw6199 It seems that you have no idea of what qualified immunity actually is and are drinking the liberal kool aid. QI states that if the officer is acting within department policy, then he cannot be held personally liable. However, that does not mean the jurisdiction cannot be sued if the policy in question is unlawful. If the officer does something wrong/unlawful which is outside of policy, he can then be charged/prosecuted/sued.

Police ABSOLUTELY know the devastation they cause a person by tying them up in the impossible red tape of the legal system. That's exactly why they do it. It's almost like a sport to them. They don't care because they never are reprimanded in any way for it when the arrests and charges are proven false, and it is a "needle in the haystack" chance that it or nothing even remotely similar will ever happen to them. The heartless manner in which the watch commander dealt with the lady in this situation is proof positive. One can only dream that things will change in "law enforcement." They're really only a legalized mafia whose code is harassment, violation, terrorism, extortion, and cover up. All the while, our legislative branch is backing it with its full weight.

LAPD did the same thing to a woman around 5-10 years ago, and she wound up being raped and murdered by someone later in the night. Her rape and murder is still unsolved. Cops don't give a shit about passengers in circumstances where the driver was arrested. I've had it happen a few times before cellphones were common and I'm a white guy. My friend, who was my designated driver was arrested for DWI despite being blowing a 0.00%, while I was probably over the limit to drive. The cops gave me the option to either find my own way home or be arrested. Luckily, I knew where I was, but unfortunately I was about 5-6 miles away from my home or a payphone.
