In 2015, the Raw Cut Archive (owned by "Police Stop!" director Bill Rudgard) uploaded all the episodes of "Police Stop!" (except "Worst of Police Stop!" and "Police Stop! America") Annoyingly, they recently made them private, so I'm sharing them in protest. I have them because I downloaded them from KZbin.

God, I must've watched this so much as a kid; I remember every single clip like it was yesterday. Only difference now is I'm less interested in the action and more interested in spotting the cars of that era that I remember so fondly.

Sierra 4x4 estate, classic Range Rover, Senator A, Rover 827 police cars are stunning . 1990 i was 24 and drove a Vauxhall Cavalier SRI 130 and got stopped on the M62 by police who was driving a Rover 827 . The cop told me to slow down had a good look at my SRI because he had one and we both had a cig together talking about our cars. Man them were the days.

Errr motorways were not empty in the 90s lol, the population was smaller then but so was the road and train network. There were speed cameras too though not too many in 91, but within a few years they were everywhere. It's funny how nostalgia distorts peoples memories, everyone tends to forget all the bad things and remember everything better than it was. It is a psychological imperative called loss aversion.

The guys in that car were famous criminals around Borehamwood.. I won't name them but their initials were GR and SN. That chase went down in local criminal folklore. They drove the metro through the cowfields and back into borehamwood and got away. The dog was an english bull terrier and belonged to GR. They were like celebrities after this, everyone knew it was them and had seen the chase on tv

It's amazing how car safety has come on. I actually took part in a road safety program in 1981 when there were 6000 road deaths in the UK (I was one of the 'dead' people lying in the road of our town of 6000 - I think the program was called 'Everyman'). In the early 1980s, seat belts weren't compulsory and after the shoot, the production team had a machine to demonstrate what it was like to crash at 5mph - even at 5mph with no belt, it is frightening. The narrator on this refers to 4200 deaths, and it would have been about 1992. Here we are in 2023, and road deaths have dropped to 1500 or so, despite many more cars. However, I fear that a lot of the deaths are pedestrians or cyclists because cars are now cages that protect the occupants too well.

Yes but they were also very heavy handed on some of the lesser stuff. I remember a few times it came on the news some kid got a hammering for pinching some worthless stuff or other things that were of no real consequence. Thats why we have what we have today. It was great when they could tackle crime but because of the few who abused the power it was mostly stripped and now they have to follow so many daft rules they can't really do their job properly. I'm not saying they should let the crims go but there does have to be balance and a crim plus a dozen cop cars flying through a small village over a few tv's just isn't worth it. A couple of these chases are good examples. Massive danger to the public and when they crash at best its a massive cost - far more than they took - while all the time risking lives. Now its gone too far the other way and all the crim has to do is pass a car a bit close to get away free.

i did a reg check on a lot of the cars in this video (the reg's i could make out) the latest any of them were on the road was 2000, it could have been when the scrappage scheme came out, you could trade your old £200 banger and get something like £2k knocked off a new car so people traded them, and their old car was scrapped.. but also, we have to remember, most cars were made from cheap metal back then that rotted for fun, most cars probably only lasted 10 years and they were rot boxes and scrapped.. Shame, i love the old cars though, give me one of them all day over the modern car.

Crime was higher and more allowances for force had to be made to fight and reduce crime. Now police can't do this, and people wonder why the moped gangs and knife gangs are running rampant in London. It's all about balance.
@Gecko....
@Gecko.... 9 ай бұрын
@@jakesoros2376 I think it's more that police tactics have changed to focus on protecting the public first and foremost. They are also held to more accountability now for their actions. I'd much rather criminals escape than have the public injured or killed because of something the police did. The police usually catch up with the criminals at a later date or they may even have their heli up to track them. As for moped gangs they are very hard to combat. They pop up out of nowhere and are gone before the police have time to respond. Though I have seen videos where the police ram them off their mopeds if they do respond in time.

I interviewed David Lowe who produced the theme tune to PCA a few years ago. He's most famous for his BBC News themes. He was basically given a bunch of audio clips and told to make them into a theme tune for the show. Worth noting Bill Rudgard who produced Police Stop was involved in producing PCA as well. In fact the very first episode/pilot of PCA was called Police Stop on ITV.

I know this is old as hell, but does anyone remember which episode had a rover 200 being chased in snowy conditions in Manchester? It's one of the early police stop or police camera action episodes is all i remember. The cops giving chase say "hes lost it" a couple of times, but the driver regains control each time until he gets punted off the road and surrounded at the end

8:22 that may have been junction 23 (the police radio said) in 1990 but that's now junction 22 London Colney. Also the bridge they drove under about 2 miles earlier now goes under the motorway (I think its what was the old A25)

It was junction 22 back then too! The "main" voice on the radio said it wrongly. The other voice said "22", and even the "main" voice described the previous junction, as "23". I think he made a mistake owing to the adrenaline of the situation.
